Hail to Njord! Master of Ships!
Hail to Njord! Lord of Vanaheim!
Hail Njord! God of oceans, whose generosity is as boundless as the sea.
As the ocean of stars turns above
So the ocean of waves turns below.
Father Njord, help them find the one by the other,
Make their eyes sure in the darkness,
Make their hands sure on the rudder,
Lead them safe home again.
(Re-written. Original invocation by Geordie Ingerson)

[edit 15/04/2015 - Ben's 'Fireball']
(From my personal digital photo archives, 2016)
From a point on the north bank of the Ebro River, as it passes through the city of Zaragoza, I had the opportunity to capture this scene in which the towers of the Basilica of Our Lady of El Pilar can be seen, a medieval bridge, also called "Puente de Piedra" (Stone Bridge) and the reflection of the lights in the river.
The Cathedral-Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar is a Roman Catholic temple in the city of Zaragoza, Aragon (Spain). The Basilica venerates the Blessed Virgin Mary, under her invocation of Our Lady of the Pillar praised as "Mother of the Hispanic Peoples" by Pope John Paul II.
It is reputed to be the first church dedicated to Mary in history.
Local traditions place the history of this basilica at the dawn of Christianity in Spain, attributing an appearance to Santiago el Mayor, the apostle who, according to tradition, introduced Christianity to the country.
This is the only known apparition of Mary before her supposed Assumption into heaven.
TRADITION: Apparition of the Virgin of Pilar: According to ancient local tradition, shortly after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus, Santiago was preaching the Gospel in Spain, but he was discouraged by the failure of his mission.
Tradition holds that on January 2, AD 40, while he was immersed in prayer on the banks of the Ebro, the Mother of God appeared to him, gave him a jasper column, and ordered him to build a church in her honor: "This place will be my house, and this image and column will be the title and altar of the temple that you will build."
Built in 1722 by the pardos released under the invocation of Menino Deus, Santa Rita and Santa Quitéria. Some years later it was repaired and rebuilt with increase by white devotees who began to use it as a matrix during the construction of this new temple. It is the oldest church in the city due to the demolition of the chapels of São Roque and the old one.
Church of Jesuit architecture presents in the internal elements, that integrate it, the characteristics of the baroque-rococo, in particular in the policromada sculpture of the main altar, that flanked the pediment, the only angels praying in altars of Paraty.
In an attempt to give unity among its altars, when the restoration of the high altar was completed, the two corner altars were painted, which present a new painting. Its altars are dedicated to Santa Rita, Our Lady of Conception and Our Lady of Carmo.
Interesting details in this church are the rails of its finely crafted wooden inner porches and the church courtyard, in the columbarium style, separated from the church by a cemetery and a garden. This cemetery dates from the early nineteenth century.
In it, today the Museum of Sacred Art of Paraty works, under the responsibility of IBRAM.

I called out into the vast darkness and the Sun heeded my plea (if only). So too would a fellow photographer soon make an appearance, followed by a third.
The origin of the religious invocation of this church is that all of its kind (that is, the churches called by the name of "Tabernacle") are sacramental or sacred shrines of a great Cathedral, to which they are attached; fulfilling at the same time, and by themselves, the function of parishes of the urban district that surrounds the Cathedral. This type of sacramental chapel really conceived as a temple attached to a larger one, sharing a facade with the Cathedral itself and having at the same time functions as an independent parish, has its origin in the Cathedral of Seville, and from there the model was extended to the Cathedrals that the Spaniards built in the New World.

Another "quadratic" contemporary mandala referring to the Hindu iconography of the Yoni and the Divine Mother. Inspiration and title from Gong's "YOU" album of 1974.
The original shot was a Pano-Sabotage of a derelict house, patched up with various materials and covered in graffiti. I took it and mirrored it into quadrants then processed colour and effects from there.
A bridge piece to a new phase of work, one that incorporates everything I've done before and ventures into further possibilities. To be posted soon.

You can feel Him in the icy breath of air.
You can feel Him in the warmth of the winter fire.
You can feel Him in the snowflakes.
You can feel Him in the sleeping branches of the dormant trees.
He is the Lord of Winter: Wise Man, Holly King, Odin, Boreas.
Bring forth the colder winds of the North! Bring forth the chill to cool the heated, angry hearts of man! Bring us peace. Bring us calm. Guide us through the long, harsh Winter nights to come so that we may emerge in Spring with joy and hope renewed.

MUSE
-Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin-
In my youth's years, she loved me, I am sure.
The flute of seven pipes she gave in my tenure
And harked to me with smile -- without speed,
Along the ringing holes of the reed,
I got to play with my non-artful fingers
The peaceful songs of Phrygian village singers,
And the important hymns, that gods to mortals bade.
From morn till night in oaks' silent shade
I diligently harked to the mysterious virgin;
Rewarding me, by chance, for any good decision,
And taking locks aside of the enchanting face,
She sometimes took from me the flute, such commonplace.
The reed became alive in consecrated breathing
And filled the heart with holiness unceasing.

To the Muses
-William Blake-
Whether on Ida's shady brow,
Or in the chambers of the East,
The chambers of the sun, that now
From ancient melody have ceas'd;
Whether in Heav'n ye wander fair,
Or the green corners of the earth,
Or the blue regions of the air,
Where the melodious winds have birth;
Whether on crystal rocks ye rove,
Beneath the bosom of the sea
Wand'ring in many a coral grove,
Fair Nine, forsaking Poetry!
How have you left the ancient love
That bards of old enjoy'd in you!
The languid strings do scarcely move!
The sound is forc'd, the notes are few!
