This intriguing photograph captures a distinctive duck gliding across the rippling waters of Vasona Lake in Los Gatos. The bird's unique appearance suggests it may be a mixed breed, showcasing a fascinating combination of features that don't align with a single common species.

The duck's most striking features include its white and cream-colored breast and neck, contrasting sharply with the darker, mottled brown feathers on its back and wings. Its head is a darker shade, possibly gray or brown, and it sports a vibrant yellow bill. The bird's elegant posture, with its neck slightly extended, adds to its eye-catching presence on the water.

The lake's surface provides a stunning backdrop, with its deep blue hues creating a beautiful contrast to the duck's lighter coloring. Gentle ripples surround the bird, adding texture and movement to the scene.

This image not only showcases the diverse and sometimes surprising wildlife at Vasona Lake Park but also serves as a reminder of the complex and varied nature of waterfowl. It invites viewers to appreciate the unique beauty of each individual bird, regardless of its specific classification.

The photograph captures a moment of natural grace, encouraging observers to look closely at the rich tapestry of wildlife in their local parks and to embrace the mystery and wonder of the natural world.

May your blade be wet and your powder dry.

The intriguing and quirky curiosities you come across on an otherwise perfectly ordinary lunchtime walk. I'd love to know the backstory to this unusual find. Happy Window Wednesday (slightly early, I know).

This little creek and its mini canyon has always intrigued me. But it's not a practical paddling route. In previous years there has been more water in here, but I assume there has been another beaver dam "adjustment".

A Palm Warbler watches me curiously as I pass on by.

I seem to be endlessly intrigued by water and light, and especially moving water. Here I was looking straight down at the rushing water from the bridge above the falls at Reservoir Canyon,

Coming Soon to The Arcade Gacha Events: December 1st - 31st

This one is the result of a combination of a focus stack of about six photos (I don‘t keep tabs on the number…) at f/8.

The beech and its intriguing roots elicited my attention here.

I used a polarisation filtre to reduce the reflection from the water in the ditch.

As I was exploring the Yellowstone, I took a detour from Madison to get to the firehole falls. It is located at around 6miles from the confluence of the Firehole and Gibbon rivers. The falls has a drop of about 40 feet which makes it quite a beauty. The water is also silt laden hence making for a different color. The cascade is located on the Firehole Canyon Drive, a one-way road that parallels the main Madison Junction to the famed Old Faithful road.

The setting was really gorgeous...it was late in the evening when I got here and all I could hear was the sound of the gushing cascade. There was not a soul in the vicinity. I had actually used the ND 10 stop and metered this shot manually as it was getting darker and I wanted to expose for longer to capture a bit more light on the rocks and the vegetation.

This is from my archives of Montana and Wyoming. I did a lot of travel back then and hadnt looked through most of my shots. But I am intrigued that it sorta comes back when I first view em again. Funny how the brain works...

Happy weekend and Thanks for viewing everyone!

Art by Nature

Canyonlands N.P.

Canyonlands National Park preserves 337,598 acres of colorful canyons, mesas, buttes, fins, arches, and spires in the heart of southeast Utah's high desert. Water and gravity have been the prime architects of this land, sculpting layers of rock into the rugged landscape you see today.

Canyonlands preserves the natural beauty and human history throughout its four districts, which are divided by the Green and Colorado rivers. While the districts share a primitive desert atmosphere, each retains its own character and offers different opportunities for exploration and adventure.

Though they appear close on a map, there are no roads that directly link the districts. Traveling between them requires two to six hours by car as there are few places to cross the rivers.
