Candid street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. I just caught sight of the 'Interact' notice and loved the juxtaposition, despite it being quite subtle in the frame. Enjoy!
It's been a banner year in 2021... and, I must say. that my numbers have grown a lot more than I expected. The reason is that I've uncovered loads of people that used to interact with me but now have seemed to disappear from Flickr. I believe that the newer folks have been more active, hence the increase in numbers.
My numbers: I've been a member since 2008. In 2021, I've received 2,000,898 views, 179,122 favs and I gave 75,767 favs in return. Last year I also received 10,769 comments and wrote 6,181! I've also picked up 610 new followers.
Thanks to each and everyone of you for your support, encouragement, and friendship.
Egyptian Geese (Alopochen aegyptiaca) mated pair; shoreline of Zambezi River in my favorfite golden light; Zambia; Africa; Ancient Egyptians considered these geese sacred. With that color plumage I understand why.

Vaulted ceilings always provide for more room and height to design your ceilings. With T&G ceilings, this interactive space has been designed with class and elegance. Wood is the dominant material in the design and is used well for the furniture, floors and the ceiling. It's also present as the cladding for the central fireplace feature that stands out.
My second time vacationing to Florida, and this time it was a far better photographic experience. Visited a lot of landmarks and attractions.
Wow wow wow. My visit to Gatorland I seriously expected it to be much like High Park Zoo. Just a quick walk though of a couple of gators. Boy was I wrong. Of all the zoos I’ve visited I would place this as the second best zoo. Beautiful exhibits, a huge amount of wildlife. I have never seen so many species of bird in one area at once. The cherry on top was their interactive shows. They really know how to perform for entertainment. I really wish that I can visit again one day. A truly great experience.
M81 and M82 are a pair of interacting galaxies found in the constellation of Ursa Major.
M81 was discovered by Johann Alert Bode in 1774. The galaxy is approximately 11.5 million light years from earth and is one of the brightest galaxies in the night sky.
M82 also discovered by Johann Alert Bode, is known for its elongated cigar shape seen from Earth and contains high levels of star formation giving its alternative name the Starburst Galaxy. M82 is approximately 12 million light years from Earth.
This wide field image also includes NGC 3077, NGC 2961, NGC 2959 and NGC 2976.
One of the objectives for this wide field image was to capture the IFN (Integrated Flux Nebula) that surrounds the region. This is why over 50 hours of imaging was taken to pick up the weak background signal.
Primarily the RGB was taken using a UV/UR cut filter during the moonless nights, and then the Ha data was added from a narrowband session using the Optolong L-Extreme 3nm filter during brighter moonlit nights. This narrowband data improves the definition of the red Ha jets being ejected from the galaxy core go M82.
Imaged from my home in Gergal, Spain over 8 nights in February and March 2023.

Crown Fountain is an interactive work of public art and video sculpture featured in Chicago's Millennium Park. Water is turned off at winter but led displays are still interactive.
Dining table with a frosted glass top lit by 448 LEDs that respond, in a complex and gentle fashion, to input generated by motion above the table while we eat.
This table was demonstrated at the MakerFaire ( makezine.com/faire/ ) in April 2006. More info here.
Update (May, 2007): We have some new interactive coffee tables. You can even buy one if you want to.
Update (June, 2008): Schematic released as a free design.
Some times the symmetrical ones just grab me so deeply. I can look at them for a long time just day dreaming. I hope you can also enjoy them. Just imagine them being over 8 feet wide on a gallery wall. That is the way I would like them all to be.

On a side note. My new art show is now up and running All of March to the 7th of April. If you would like to see my photos in person.

Father and son collaboration
Our photographic art is a kinetic motion study, from the results of interacting with my son A.J and his toys.
He was born severely handicapped much like a quadriplegic. On December 17,1998. Our family’s goal has always been to help A.J. use his mind, even though he has minimal use of his body.
A.J. likes to watch lights and movement. One of the few things he can do for himself is to operate a switch that sets in motion lights and various shiny, colorful streamers and toys that swirl above his bed.
One day I took a picture of A.J. with his toys flying out from the big mobile near his bed like swings on a carnival ride. I liked the way the swirling objects and colors looked in the photo.
I wanted to study the motion more and photograph the whirling objects in an artful way, I wanted my son A.J. to be a part of it. After all, he’s the one who inspires me. When A.J. and I work together on our motion artwork, A.J. starts his streamers and objects twirling, I take the photographs.
Activating a tiny switch might not seem like much to some, but it’s all A.J. can do. He controls the direction the mobile will spin, as well as when it starts and stops. The shutter speeds are long, and sometimes, I move the camera and other times I hold it still.
I begin our creation with a Nikon digital camera. Then I use my computer with Photoshop to alter the images into what I feel might be an artistic way. Working with Photoshop, I find the best parts from several images and combine them into the final composite photograph. I consider the finished work to be fine art. The computer is just the vehicle that helps my expressions grow.
I take the photographs and A.J. adds the magic. It’s something this father and son do together. After I’ve taken a few shots, I show him the photos in the back of the camera. When the images are completed, I show him from a laptop. He just looks. He can’t tell me whether or not he likes the images, but he’s always ready to work with me again.
It offers me my only glance into A.J.’s secret world. We’ve built a large collection of images and I hope the motion and color move you as much as they do me.
A.J. inspires me to work harder to understand my life in the areas of art, photography, people, spirituality, and so much more. He truly sets my mind in motion and helps me find the beauty in everyday things.

Teresa Lloro-Bidart (Cal Poly Pomona) and I are studying how people and coyotes manage to get along in US cities. The environmental political theory blog "Inhabiting the Anthropocene" recently published a piece based on our research. Go check it out!
inhabitingtheanthropocene.com/2018/08/22/there-goes-the-n...
Coyotes have incorporated themselves into nearly every major city in North America. Coyotes’ ability to thrive in cities testifies not only to the Anthropocene’s blurring of human-wildlife boundaries; it also undermines the idea that cities and suburbs are places where people don’t have to contend with wild predators. In cities where coyotes have become established recently, their arrival has coincided with a reevaluation of urban ecologies and of the role of wild animals in urban settings. Conservation scientists are deemphasizing conflict management in favor of peaceful coexistence. And human-animal studies scholars are generating multispecies accounts of city life that seek to take seriously wild animals as social actors, both in how they interact with humans and in their own right. Our study of how residents of two cities – Philadelphia, PA and Chino/Chino Hills, CA – attempt to make sense of urban coyotes asks how such calls for more inclusive human-wildlife relations resonate in popular imaginaries of urban life.

A surprisingly productive 2 days, we spend most of our time wandering around Ikebukuro on day 3, where we visited an Owl Cafe. They're incredibly cute and friendly around humans. Surprised me how easily I could interact with them
Here's a shot I took in NYC the other day for a project I'm working on with reflections. The idea is to have different elements from the reflection interacting with the subject that is being photographed through the glass. In this case, the parts of the main parts of the reflection are the man in the hat in the middle and the red car on the right.
Enjoy, and please feel free to critique!

On a visit to Willowbank wild life park with a Flickr friend September 2019 Christchurch, New Zealand.
Although there are claims that the Damara breed of sheep originated in Egypt as long ago as 3000 BC, its recognition as a named breed is more realistically dated to the early twentieth century. In 1904, this long-legged sheep breed was seen by German explorers in the northern region of Namibia, which was then called Gross Damaland – hence it became known as the Damara Sheep. At one time, local farmers who used copper in their traditional attire, exchanged Damara Sheep for copper wire and for horses.

Founded by the Willis family more than four decades ago, Willowbank is still owned and operated by members of the founding family. With more than 120 000 annual visitors, and growing, Willowbank is popular with local, national and international visitors.
New Zealand’s most comprehensive NZ themed wildlife park, the Willowbank experience tells the story of our country’s natural heritage. Using pioneering and innovative display techniques, with an emphasis on creating a natural environment and an up-close and personal interactive experience, Willowbank showcases one of New Zealand’s best displays of native species. Willowbank was the first to open a glass-free nocturnal house for kiwi in a natural environment, guaranteeing viewings every time.
Willowbank is a New Zealand leader in conservation, with success in many national, Australasian and in-house breeding programmes focusing on New Zealand native and endangered species, as well as many rare and heritage breeds of farm stock. Scientific research projects, and local partners including the Department of Conservation, the Styx River Living Laboratory, the Rare Breeds Society, the NZ Conservation Trust and the South Island Wildlife Hospital, are supported by and work alongside Willowbank.
