NASA satellites capture hourly views of our sun that are then used by scientists to study solar phenomena. The Space Weather Viewer provides the same images to anyone with an Internet connection. Visitors to the Space Weather Viewer site can zoom in on current satellite images to see solar storms and sunspots and other activity on as it happens on our nearest star, the Sun.

In addition to near-real time images, the site provides illustrations, NASA mission info, video simulations, and scientist interviews to give visitors a range of information on the Sun and solar phenomena. All the videos are broadcast-quality and visitors can download copies of all the media to their local computers, as well as captions for each video.

The application scales the satellite images to fill the browser window. All of the menu items and controls can be hidden to further maximize the size of the images. The minimalist design deliberately fades into the background to allow visitors to focus their attention on the beautiful imagery that composes the interactive.

The Space Weather Viewer was developed using Adobe Flex. This open source platform allowed us to quickly create the interface. The zoom feature and captioning feature were custom coded. All of the content on the site is external to application. The extensible markup language (XML) was used for descriptive text files and menus.

A rapid prototyping workshop for Master of Interaction Design students at ITU. An introduction to rapid prototyping as a concept and as a practice, both in the quick and dirty sense (using available materials to achieve proof of concept) and through awareness of tools available such as the CNC machine, the Rep Rap machine, and use and knowledge of materials, processes and communities. Part lecture, part hands-on prototyping complete with proof of concept from each group.

Cleaned up meeting idea, an example of capture-style notes. After the initial messy meeting notes that were geared more towards generating ideas, a more organized diagram came out afterwards for a wizard flow that has both an initial checklist to get started, as well as a "welcome back" screen for those that bail during the process.

illutron & GeekPhysical teamed up to bring an intense 3 day workshop to Aalborg University students. Day 1 was with Vanessa and introduced students to rapid prototyping, learning from the industry, design in the real world, design methods and introduction to Arduino. Day 2 and 3 were get-dirty days with Dzl and illutron member Christian Liljedahl as they tore into scrap electronics, toys and other 'junk' to help students identify components and their properties, and create intriguing projects that were displayed for family, friends, and the public in an exhibition the next day.

I tend to use only plain paper because it gives me the flexibility to write, draw, or like here in this picture, do both. I experimented with grids, dot matrixes, ruled/lined paper types before eventually settling on plain sketchbooks.

Participants awesome work at UX Week and the day 1 sketching workshop taught by Rachel Glaves.
