We Could Have Been Anything That We Wanted to Be

Ruth Ewan, 2011

"The title of the work is inspired by the movie Bugsie Malone which includes the song: we could have been anything we wanted to be. The next line of this song is; It’s not too late to change which emphasizes Ewan’s interest in past failures and also possible futures.

Totally peeved that I missed this amazing looking installation... but the above pix document the site, afterwards. Below is a link to the blog of artist D.V. Rogers, who built this amazing seismic art piece at the heart of the San Andreas fault.

An art piece that I found both beautiful and emotive in the gardens of the Sapporo Museum of Modern Art in Hokkaido, Japan.

Set against the snow laden, stark winter vegetation, its shiny, smooth, serpentine and poetic form is in contrast with its surrounds.

Bombay Beach has to be one of the coolest and weirdest towns in all of California. Located along the Salton Sea in Imperial County, it is a mecca for artists and their outdoor art installations.

I couldn’t find any information online about this outdoor art installation located at the water’s edge, so I will just name it the “Jungle Gym,” from fond memories of my youth at my school playground. I added my artistic impression by compositing in the sky to give the composition depth and texture.

Say goodbye. This true vintage landmark, and the ENTIRE AREA around it are being levelled for yet even more condos. Welcome to the new Toronto: Condo City.

We've apparently learnt nothing.

And so the weaving begins... up the ladder in the hazy afternoon heat. The children looked up as they went to lunch. "A web!" "Spiderman is up the ladders," they observed.

I love any and all forms of art and finding a way to blend it into photography. This picture just felt pleasant to work on.

Not much post-processing done on it except for boosting clarity and desaturating the vibrance.

The sculpture, by Australian artist Lisa Roet, depicts the iconic chimp David Greybeard, who was at the centre of the work done by pioneering primate-behaviour researcher Jane Goodall.

Roet hopes to raise questions around humanity’s relationship with nature – and our closest living animal relative. And the unveiling marks 60 years since Goodall’s expedition in Tanzania, when David Greybeard welcomed her into his family.
