{Wikipedia} Haghpat Monastry is a 10th century monastic complex, that represents the highest flowering of Armenian religious architecture, whose unique style developed from a blending of elements of Byzantine ecclesiastical architecture and the traditional vernacular architecture of the Caucasian region. Haghpat has been in the UNESCO world heritage list since 1996.

I was in a workshop today and my mind started to wander and I began thinking of how we seem to read people just by what we see, when in reality they have an entire other world inside themselves.

Castle Howard is stunning from both the outside and inside. Inside the fairy-tale exterior, are magnificent rooms and furnishings. The inside of the central dome above the Great Hall is especially gorgeous. This description is from the Castle Howard web site: Great Hall is the crowning masterpiece of Vanbrugh's design. Viewed from outside the 70 foot high dome gives Castle Howard a unique silhouette. On the inside it is a triumph of theatre and space. The painted decoration executed by Antonio Pellegrini depicts the Four Elements, the Figures of the Zodiac and the tale of Phaeton falling from his father's chariot. It was rebuilt in 1960-62 after a fire in1940 destroyed much of Castle Howard including the dome. You can still see the cracks on the floor where the debris crashed to the ground.

Surely this photo was shot inside the Inside-out Building, or Lloyd's of London. This is a structure using the architectural design called Bowellism, a design which the services for the building, such as ducts and lifts, are located on the exterior to maximize interior space.

Lloyd's of London is classified as a statutory listed building. A listed building may not be demolished, extended, or altered without permission from town planning authority.

Recently there is rumor that the building has been sold to Chinese insurance group Ping An Insurance for £260M.

It's gloomy out today. Not quite raining, but dark enough to ruin any hope of a natural light shot. So I had to play around with ghetto bathroom lighting again. Fun stuff. This shot is for one of the weekly challenge songs selected by Daynna for Musically Challenged.

I've been having some major self-image issues lately. I'm not saying that to fish for compliments. I know that my friends will always tell me I'm cute and that it's what's inside that matters most. And I love you all for that. But sometimes, despite this 365, I just feel like I spend so much time hiding myself. Even in my pictures, I show what I want to show. It's no more reality than a movie or magazine ad. I think I've spent my whole life worrying about how others see me. And that realization is disconcerting and uncomfortable right now.

E, superou minhas expectativas gente!

Obrigadaa Camila (minha irmã) pelo presente! Amo você ♥

This is the hallway to the main casino floor inside the Venetian Macau Resort Hotel. As you can see, the marble floor is highly reflective, they must be polishing it every couple hours or so... I was surprised that the hotel was actually bigger than the one in Las Vegas!

Memories are bullets. Some whiz by and only spook you. Others tear you open and leave you in pieces.

I've been working 2 days on these.

~ I finished this by yesterday 1:30 am so it was already too late to take any photos! I thought I will post a photo today early but early today a disaster came ! o.o;;

Lily was so not co-operating & everytime I try to make her sit *both Lala & Lowey sit but when she joins, they all fall* ..

When she sat once, she made Lowey fall of the bookcase to floor & his head cap jumped all the way 1.5 meter O_O;; .. I truly was scared T^T

*Lowey is ok or I would be TT^TT all the day*

Next thing I cursed ~ then suddenly she fall & all the table fall from the bookcase + the glass gars broken & glass pieces spread everywhere ! O_O

I spent 1 hr cleaning & looking for the glasses , beads, broken clay pieces! * I hate that there is no rug on the marble floor* everything goes everywhere T^T

Part of my display was ruined :( ..

1. Craved pumpkin + filling

2. 2 mices

3. 2 glass bottles full of candies *I filled it with liquid clear glue so candies will stay in place* << all are ruined T^T

4. there were 4 spiders .. I donno where the other 3 went . May be the vacuum took them inside when I tried cleaning *though I searched for them everywhere before I turn it on*

So ~ that's why I delayed posting the photo early this morning! & now Lily creeps me !

For Rio because she thinks Lily is adorable ! xD

* no cross treatment this time + new view selected >> more about this guy inside this folder

Quote from one of my favorite musicians Frank Zappa. I didn't have this quote in mind when I put the trophy next to the record player for this shot, but in hindsight it makes me look like a genius now! I love it when a plan comes together.... even if it never was a plan to begin with.

Rooms here look as though they were frozen in time. Desks, books, beakers, etc all sit on the shelves waiting for someone to come and get them.

I juiced the contrast on this quite a bit, added 3 layers ( one a texture, one a high pass and heck if I can remember the 3rd one. Sorry ) to get the effect of an old picture. Had a great time on a shoot with my friends. Hope to do it again soon.

...using the wisdom from another recent attempt, I made the following changes:

1. Washed the windshield and side windows

2. Positioned the tripod right behind the passenger seat. I was able to secure it used just one seatbelt (the passengers), but it was a very tight squeeze and took several attempts to strap the tripod securely to the seat. One attempt backfired badly (the cut on my nose tells the tale after an awkward encounter with my Manfrotto tripod).

3. Fisheye lens

4. Lots of traffic (driving home from work northbound on I-35). I got all of these (and many more) during about 20 minutes of driving on I-35 between Norman and OKC. It helps that this stretch of interstate has 3 lanes of traffic, street lights in the middle and lots of commercial activity on both sides (neon signs).

...and I think it worked out great :)

One caveat (beside the lack of a convertible!) is cropping the fisheye image. I'm still clueless on defishing (PS + DXO Optics). I don't use PS and only have it on one computer I don't use. So for now I crop. Input on this is very much welcome!

My little granddaughter, Rosie May, dutifully modelling for me at our belated Thanksgiving day meal on Sunday. (Everyone comes to dinner with a pop-up backdrop, pair of SB-600s, PowerSnoots and a range of lenses, right? That's perfectly normal. So why don't my family believe me?)

Felix's Granny made the cakes and when I got back from setting up the wedding cake yesterday, I collected them, buttercreamed and decorated them so that they could be taken to London yesterday afternoon ready for the Christening today !!!

I was very pleased with the cases I found for these ..... not only were they the perfect colours but they actually kept their colour during cooking !

The little giraffe is made of Artista Soft, as you know, so he can be kept along with the balloon topper I made for the Christening of Felix's brother Rory.

Words can harm just as much as physical violence, but the scars don't always show. Thankfully I haven't been an abusive relationship, but I know people who have and how much it scars them, inside and out. And if you think this is just a female problem, you're wrong - nearly 8000 men reported domestic abuse in Scotland last year.

There's no excuse.

About Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is best understood as a pattern of abusive behaviours -- including physical, sexual, and psychological attacks as well as economic coercion -- used by one intimate partner against another (adult or adolescent) to gain, maintain, or regain power and control in the relationship. Batterers use of a range of tactics to frighten, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, often injure, and sometimes kill a current or former intimate partner.

How do I know if I'm a victim?

The Power and Control Wheel developed by the Domestic Abuse Intervention Project in Duluth, MN is a helpful tool in illustrating the overall pattern of abusive and violent behaviours that can be used by someone to establish and maintain control over their partner.

How can I raise awareness in my community?

To stop domestic violence, we all need to be part of the solution. Helping a friend who is being abused, speaking up about abuse, educating yourself and others, and supporting your local domestic violence program are all examples of things we can do to help.

Casa Batlló, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

Back to Barcelona for todays upload. This was taken last year when I had my old A77 and the trusty old Sigma 10-20, looking back at these images reminds me how much better my A99 is with the Zeiss glass, in a complete different league and well chuffed I made the leap to FF and invest in some decent glass.

This is one of the rooms inside the Casa Batllo, which was designed by the awesome architect Gaudi. This type of architecture is referred to as 'Organic Architecture' due its organic nature. Gaudi was so far ahead of his time and you often see this type of architecture replicated in modern buildings today.

Location Information

Casa Batlló (Catalan pronunciation: [ˈkazə βəʎˈʎo]) is a renowned building located in the heart of Barcelona and is one of Antoni Gaudí’s masterpieces. Casa Batlló is a remodel of a previously built house. It was redesigned in 1904 by Gaudí and has been refurbished several times after that. Casa Batlló evokes the creativity and playfulness of Gaudí’s work through the incrassate facades and creative floors. Gaudí's assistants Domènec Sugrañes i Gras, Josep Canaleta and Joan Rubió also contributed to the renovation project.

The local name for the building is Casa dels ossos (House of Bones), as it has a visceral, skeletal organic quality. It was originally designed for a middle-class family and situated in a prosperous district of Barcelona.

The building looks very remarkable — like everything Gaudí designed, only identifiable as Modernisme or Art Nouveau in the broadest sense. The ground floor, in particular, is rather astonishing with tracery, irregular oval windows and flowing sculpted stone work.

It seems that the goal of the designer was to avoid straight lines completely. Much of the façade is decorated with a mosaic made of broken ceramic tiles (trencadís) that starts in shades of golden orange moving into greenish blues. The roof is arched and was likened to the back of a dragon or dinosaur. A common theory about the building is that the rounded feature to the left of centre, terminating at the top in a turret and cross, represents the lance of Saint George (patron saint of Catalonia, Gaudí's home), which has been plunged into the back of the dragon.

Listen to "Armstrong" - Claude Nougaro : www.radioblogclub.fr/open/120324/nougaro/Claude Nougaro - Amstrong

"Bois d'ébène" était l'expression utilisée par les négriers français quand ils parlaient des esclaves. L'ébène de la clarinette pourrait être le symbole de l'oppression des noirs et l'or des clés celui de la richesse accumulée par les esclavagistes.

La ville de Bordeaux fut malheureusement le premier port négrier de France pendant près de 200 ans.

Bien que Louis Armstrong ait toujours joué de la trompette, cette chanson me paraissait appropriée.

"Ebony wood" was the expression used by the French slave traders when they spoke about the slaves. The ebony of the clarinet could be the symbol of the oppression of Black people and the golden keys the one of the richness accumulated by the slave owners.

The city of Bordeaux was unfortunately the first slave trader harbour in France for nearly 200 years.

Although Louis Armstrong always played the trumpet, this song seemed to me appropriate.

Armstrong

Claude Nougaro

Armstrong, je ne suis pas noir,

Je suis blanc de peau.

Quand on veut chanter l'espoir,

Quel manque de pot.

Oui, j'ai beau voir le ciel, l'oiseau,

Rien, rien, rien, ne luit là-haut.

Les anges ... zéro.

Je suis blanc de peau.

Armstrong, tu te fends la poire,

On voit toutes tes dents.

Moi, je broie plutôt du noir,

Du noir en dedans.

Chante pour moi, Louis, oh oui !

Chante, chante, chante, ça tient chaud !

J'ai froid, oh moi

Qui suis blanc de peau.

Armstrong, la vie, quelle histoire !

C'est pas très marrant.

Qu'on l'écrive blanc sur noir,

Ou bien noir sur blanc,

On voit surtout du rouge, du rouge,

Sang, sang, sans trêve ni repos,

Qu'on soit, ma foi

Noir ou blanc de peau.

Armstrong, un jour, tôt ou tard

On n'est que des os.

Est-ce que les tiens seront noirs?

Ce serait rigolo.

Allez Louis, alléluia !

Au-delà de nos oripeaux,

Noir et blanc seront ressemblants

Comme deux gouttes d'eau.

Armstrong

Armstrong, I am not black,

I am white-skinned.

When you want to sing hope,

What a hard luck.

Yes, I see the sky , the bird in vain,

Nothing, nothing, nothing, shines up there.

Angels... zero.

I am white-skinned.

Armstrong, you’re laughing,

We see all your teeth.

I rather have the blues,

Blues inside myself.

Sing for me, Louis, oh yes!

Sing, sing, sing, that keeps warm!

I am cold, oh me !

Who is white-skinned.

Armstrong, life, what a story!

It’s not very funny.

Whether you write it white on black,

Or black on white,

We see mainly red, red,

Blood, blood, without truce nor rest,

Whether you are, indeed,

Black or white-skinned.

Armstrong, one day, sooner or later

We are only bones.

Will yours be black?

It would be funny.

Go on Louis, Alleluia!

Beyond our tinsels,

Black and white are as like

As two peas.

"Chapel in the Sky" - this is what is at the top of the Chicago Temple Building. It's hard to tell, but this is up in the point of a skyscraper. I'm including a shot with the window open so you can get a perspective.

This chapel holds seating for about 30 people. It was installed up there by Myrtle Walgreen in memory of her husband, who started the Walgreens drugstores. The wood used came from Walgreen's property.

My pledge to you...

I will never forget what it took, and how long we waited, to have you in our lives. And I will always treasure each and every moment with you - even when those moments are filled with 3 a.m. feedings and colic and dirty diapers. Even when we are staying up late when you break curfew. I will teach you to appreciate architechture, photography, art and poetry. I will dream with you - about the possibilities that await you, and I will remember with you the lessons of our past. But I will never throw your past decisions back at you, to shame you. I cannot promise to always be there to catch you when you fall, but I will always be supportive and will pick you up and kiss away your tears, be it from learning to walk, falling off a bike, mending a broken heart, or dealing with death.

I will always be willing to color, and will never scold you for going outside of the lines.

Your creativity and happiness is more important than conforming to a set of norms that society, or I, have dictated to you. I will teach you to be tolerant, and to appreciate that our individuality and uniqueness is more important than gender, race, ethnic, or religious bounds. I will encourage you to be a steward, to protect the earth that sustains us. I will teach you to be strong, to stand up for what is right, and to help those that cannot help themselves, even if it means sacrificing something of your own. I will teach you to never give up fighting for what your heart desires. But sometimes, I will have to tell you no. I will teach you to listen to your own voice, and that your opinion counts, no matter the magnitude of the decision. I will help you confront your fears, and scare away the monsters in the closet. And when the boogie men are too frightening for you to take on alone, I will be there to help you. Your fears, no matter what they are, will always be real to me.

I will proudly display crayon scrawled handprint turkeys with the same pride that I would a Renoir or a Picasso.

I will teach you that sometimes, in life, puddles are simply made to jump in… even if you're in your Sunday best. I will be always be a sounding board for you to bounce off your aspirations, your dreams, your plans, your fears. I will teach you how to make informed, intelligent decisions, and I will not judge the solutions or actions you take. I cannot always say that I will agree with you, but I will respect your ability to chart your own path. I will keep your secrets and confidence always safe in my heart. I will tell you every day that you are special and loved.

I will wear macaroni necklaces with the same pride that I would diamonds.

I will always believe in you, even when you are struggling to believe in yourself. I will teach you that love from a parent is unconditional. I will understand when you're 13 and don't want me to drop you off at school, and I will drop you off down the block. I will hopefully impart to you my love of books, and will teach you not to accept something or someone as right or correct just because you're told to. Even if that someone is me.

I will make funny faces and giggle.

I will encourage you to make your own spiritual decisions about what religion and faith mean to you. I will teach you that there are ramifications, both desirable and not, to your actions, and that sometimes the most noble thing to do is simply to admit that you were wrong. And I will do so by example, but that choice to do so for you will always be yours, and yours alone, to make. I will teach you to live life fully, and to be confident enough in your own abilities to take appropriate risks.

Sometimes it will be necessary to eat dessert first.

I will teach you to love the everyday things about life, and to find joy where you least expect it. We may never be rich, but you will be provided with every opportunity to grow and learn that I can manage. Your desires are important, but I cannot promise that I can fulfill them. But, I will always find a way to make sure your needs are taken care of. I will whisper lullabies to you, and sing with you loudly and off-key as the situation warrants.

I will never tire of you asking "why?"

And I do not want you to accept "Because I said so" as a valid explanation. I want you to be inquisitive. I will not be angry when I find frogs in your pocket, although I cannot promise that I won't scream. I will teach you that money is not the true indicator of achieving success. I will understand your need for privacy, but understand that I will weigh it against my need to keep you safe. I will encourage you to find your niche in life by doing something that you are passionate about, even if it's not something that I would have picked for you.

You will always have a home in my heart, and there will never be a time that you are too big for me to rock to sleep.

I will take you to museums. I will teach you that it is just as critical to your career to respect the cleaning staff as it is to the CEO. I will treat crayon marks on the wall, muddy footprints, and grey hairs as a reminder of how lucky I am to have you in my life. I will teach you that a formal education is vitally important, but equally so is "street smarts" and life experience. I will teach you to love to travel, and to learn from those that are different than you. When you dye your hair green and pierce strange body parts, I will not get angry and I will not laugh. Well, at least I won't laugh in your face. I might have to chuckle a little.

I will love you for who you are, and will expect you to not try to be anyone else.

I will not compare you to others. If, and when, you fall in love, I will love them regardless of the color of their skin, or how much money they make, or what sex they are, as long as they are good to you. I will teach you the importance of friendship and loyalty, but of the greater need to be true to and love yourself. I will love you past the confines of life and death, with all that I am.

The Houston tunnel system is a system of tunnels 6 m (about 20 ft) below Houston's downtown street system. The system is 10 km long (6-7 mi depending on the source), and forms a network of subterranean, climate-controlled, pedestrian walkways that link 95 full city blocks.

Today's Tunnel is a series of underground passageways that, with above-ground skywalks, link office towers to hotels, banks, corporate and government offices, restaurants, retail stores, and the Theater District. Only one building, Wells Fargo Plaza, offers direct access from the street to the Tunnel; otherwise, other entry points are from street-level stairs, escalators, and elevators located inside buildings that are connected to the tunnel. Most of the tunnel system is located in the western half of downtown Houston.
