Arduino with Centipede Shield and 16 of 64 possible I/O attached to a breakout panel

Say: "My D-I"

I only have one DI box, and needed more, so I decided to build my own. It has a 1/4in. input, balanced XLR output, and switches for ground lift, -30dB pad and phase flip.

The heavy duty metal box was $2 at a thrift store. The rest of the parts were pulled from other (free) items I found (e.g. The transformer is pulled from a broken sound mixing console I got free on Craigslist).

This is a brand new big block input shaft I purchased from David Kee Toploader, best source for Toploader parts. I've loaded all the needle bearings, pressed on the front bearing and replaced the seal on the retainer (retainer is also pained).

The first phase of BC's disability white paper consultation, led by representatives of government, the disability and business communities, is now closed but the process is far from over.

Echoing the United Nations sentiment "nothing about us, without us," the comprehensive, three-month public consultation into issues facing people with disabilities received incredible support from community members, with and without disabilities, throughout the province.

My first Utata... hello peeps :) thanks for any input.

One of those moments that couldn't have been planned for or staged. Pure and perfect. Andrew fell asleep on the sofa yesterday, in a fetal position, while watching Go, Diego, Go. He's still recharging his batteries after being sick last week.

His position made me catch my breath. This must have been what he looked like when I carried him for more than 9 months, only he's such a big boy now. I watched him for a long time, slow breathing... in and out. Its so delicious to see my children in perfect silence. Its almost as if I could see him grow a little, which makes it bittersweet. Ahhhh...

This is based on the old Rangemaster booster, but it's got three switchable input capacitors. The original used a 5 nF, but I always thought that was a little too thin. This one is switchable between a 10 nF, 22 nF and 47 nF.

These kinds of treble boosters were used to change the frequencies where your amp clipped back when amps like the JTM-45 and AC-30 tended to be a little flabby-sounding, due to their designs being geared around a more full-range style of reproduction. Later Vox would add, "Top Boost" and Marshall would reduce the value of their cathode bypass capacitor to shift the point where the amp clips. So these are designed for that kind of thing, just in case this is unfamiliar territory.

So the 10 nF setting (the, "toppy-est") gets you into that kind of Brian May thing to my ears. Or at least that's what I was shooting for. The 22 nF setting has a nice biting midrange thing going on. Finally, the 47 nF was my attempt at the old Tony Iommi Rangemaster sound. Not a full-range boost, but very close.

The, "Secret Sauce" here is a Tesla NPN germanium transistor. The original used PNP transistors, so it had to run on battery power only or a finicky adapter. This will run on a standard Boss adapter. There's actually no provision for battery power. These transistors break up and add some grit to the signal. Like a light overdrive. It's actually my favorite effect because it voices the guitar/amp and adds a very light and transparent overdrive at the same time.

These particular transistors are very low-noise and have an extremely pleasant tone. They aren't great at reproducing high frequencies, which probably seems a bit anti-intuitive. These transistors were made for AM radios back in the day. The problem with a lot of treble boosters is that they turn the extreme high end into kind of a harsh thing. These transistors boost the upper mids that you want (well, that I want) boosted, but then run out of steam before they get to the extreme upper range that makes your head hurt (well, makes MY head hurt, anyway). They're the perfect treble booster transistor, IMO.

Some people kick these in for a solo boost, which is a good use for 'em. Brian May used to just leave his on all the time. It was a key part of his sound. These also sound great stacked with other fuzz, overdrive and distortion effects. I think they sound amazing into a Fuzz Face, but I've also had really cool experiences using one to drive an Expandora.

There is no provision for battery power. I just want to repeat that to make sure it's clear. These are DC-only operation, but they don't need any kind of finicky power adapters like most germanium pedals. The enclosure has a durable powder coated finish. Hopefully you'll enjoy this design as much as I do.

Overview of the pic and place robot. The robot has to pick up the color disc and place it in the matrix according to a drawing. The input module for this is still under development, although most parts are ready. The pic and place table can also be controlled with the X,Y and Z axis. Once a drawing has been made, the robot must also be able to remove the colored blocks. For this purpose an output sorting module is provided. The color of the recorded color block is first measured and then disposed in the correct color box. If there is no color match then the last box (gray) is used. The sorting module also contains a small storage tube in which up to 10 blocks can fit for sorting. It is this sorting module that is now being tested here. A video is also available:

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue and Speaker Paul Ryan meet with Blain Supply store managers from across the country, and then speak with the news media, at Blain Supply, in Janesville, WI, on Aug. 3, 2017. Secretary Perdue begins a five-state RV tour today. This “Back to Our Roots” Tour, will gather input on the 2018 Farm Bill and increasing rural prosperity, at the Wisconsin State Fair Park, in West Allis, near Milwaukee, MN, on Aug. 3, 2017. Along the way, Perdue will meet with farmers, ranchers, foresters, producers, students, governors, Members of Congress, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) employees, and other stakeholders. This is the first of two RV tours the secretary will undertake this summer. “The ‘Back to our Roots’ Farm Bill and rural prosperity RV listening tour will allow us to hear directly from people in agriculture across the country, as well as our consumers – they are the ones on the front lines of American agriculture and they know best what the current issues are,” Perdue said. “USDA will be intimately involved as Congress deliberates and formulates the 2018 Farm Bill. We are committed to making the resources and the research available so that Congress can make good facts-based, data-driven decisions. It’s important to look at past practices to see what has worked and what has not worked, so that we create a farm bill for the future that will be embraced by American agriculture in 2018.” This first RV Tour will feature stops in five states: Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Indiana. For social media purposes, Secretary Perdue’s Twitter account (@SecretarySonny) will be using the hashtag #BackToOurRoots. USDA Photo by Lance Cheung.

I'll start off this description with a poll. I need your input, and if possible, why.

RAW, or JPEG (JPG)?

Shame on me for doing so, but I've been shooting JPG all my life. Occasionally I'll switch it to RAW and take a snap or two, but it's never anything huge. I thought I would be really awesome, and start to act like a true photographer today, and switch it to RAW for my entire photo-walk of Sydney. Great idea, right? Wrong!

And because it's a bad idea, you won't be seeing any of those intense sunset photos of the harbour for quite some time. Apparently Adobe has yet to release the update for CS3 to work with the 7D (Camera RAW). They've got CS4, which is nice, but that just means I shot 8GB worth of data tonight, and it's (at the moment) garbage. *sigh.

Anyway, this was shot before I'd "go pro." JPEG for ya, don't hate me because I'm different. Hate me because I'm better. ;) (Just kidding, I know who the real photographers are, and I'm not one of 'em).
