I took a break from having work done on this for about a year. Last month, I started up again, with about two hours on the jewelry and skulls, and last night my artist did the scarf on the left.
I found the January session really trying and was actually a little shaky afterwards. Last night, however, was no problem at all. I expect, at the pace I'm going, this should be done by the end of the year.
Mmmm. Girders. This case study has been a good excuse to experiment a bit more with the fR rendering plugin. It produces nice global illumination with very fast rendering times but the light levels are hard to control. I'm quite happy with the light gradient on the underside of the roof decking here though.
This is a work in progress. I paint on suede board. I use both soft pastel sticks and pencils. I bruse the suede for my drawing that way I have no pencil lines to contend with.
I started this temari with the intent on making pattern 99PG04 on Temarikai. About a third of the way complete on the interwoven pentagons, I realized that I wouldn't be able to complete this as intended. The small triangles aren't supposed to be there, the three black threads are supposed to meeting there. And, I had stitched up too close the the poles. So, I could stop and rip it out and start over or I could continue and just do a more basic interlocked pentagon pattern. I decided to continue since I was enjoying how the colors were working out.
The slow beginning of the Winding Cable knee sock (free pattern on the Interweave Knits site), knit in Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sock in Manzanita. It's the same yarn and color called for in the pattern (how unoriginal and boring of me, I know) and I stuck with it because I love the color.
These images demonstrate the undercut protection built into the paracell scripts. On the left is a surface made up of coffer units which carve out triangular coffers normal to the surface. As the surface warps this begins to create undercut conditions as seen in the middle image which is then rectified by the undercut protection as seen on the right.
I'm looking forward to routing a piece of this when our router gets fixed this week. The renderings with triangular coffers are a bit harsh but when the toolpaths are all said and done I think triangular cells with .25" or .5" fillets (diameter of the bit) will look nice. Adding all of those fillets to the geometry would make the file very heavy, but factoring them into the design seems practical to me. Toolpaths are our friends.
Mixed media embroidery inclusions of gel transfer images on buttons, fragments of homemade textured clay, tin can beads, metallic and cotton threads, fiber covered buttons on felt laminated red velvet. The piece as shown here is not completely finished. More stitching was added to the background between the pieces. I will post another copy soon.
The piece was created as a tribute to Haïti victims. The fragments of discarded pieces speak of rebuilding from scraps and foreign aid. The stitching (spirals) are both the destruction and reconstruction energies present. The seed stitches mean planting and new growth. Threads are representative of relationships holding things together.
this was a new experiment - i etched the photo into a loose sheet of very thin paper and then glued it down over a collaged area.
