I want to be very clear that Innocent Bystanders are indeed the children and family members (civilians) killed by unjust military action. But, in my country, I still can’t help but feel empathy for a generation of children who have inherited climate chaos, unstable political vitriol and choices that they cannot control.
I remember being young very vividly and being fearful about the world and about how unjust it was the more I learned about the history of US imperialism and how we had mistreated so many. I remember the deep sadness I felt about others not having enough food, or clothing on their backs or homes they could go to in my own country and in others. I felt quite strongly that so many things were unfair and beyond my control and this is no way to grow up.
Kids today seem to have an even larger weight on their shoulders as these world problems have only gotten worse. I do feel bad for them, even if they are living in a country where there is a fascist dictator destroying the world..it is not their fault. They are growing up with a toxicity that pollutes the water and the air they breathe, that has infiltrated the food they eat. They are growing up in a country where their "leader" sets the worst kind of example. He's like the worst bully on the playground who doesn't have a teacher or principal holding him accountable and the damage he does is insurmountable. He is, in no way, a role model for our children. We must keep them in mind when we go out and protest and try to make a kinder world. It isn’t fair and it never was.
Hard to beat the innocence of a baby's eyes. What does the future hold? Sometimes it's best to live in the moment & not think too far ahead. Thanks Kez for running the Eyes of March group, it's been such fun.

去年1月の隅田川、次々と通り過ぎる屋形船を見ながら川沿いを散歩をしました。
コロナが終わったら屋形船が行き交う隅田川は戻ってくるのかな？
This is Sumida River in January last year. I took a walk along the river while watching the houseboats passing by one after another.
When the corona is over, I wonder if can do to return to the Sumida River where many of the houseboat come and go?
