A Hop-on Hop-off pass is valid for two consecutive days on the Christchurch Tramway. It's a great way to experience and explore Christchurch at your own pace. Hop-on one of the beautifully restored trams and hop-off at any of the tram stops along the way. Tram drivers give a live, entertaining and informative commentary throughout the journey. Being a train and tram tragic, I loved the Christchurch trams.

The Ladies of Llangollen House and gardens, where they lived for nearly 50 years.
This was today in Blue Diamond, Nevada. I was headed to the other side of the sign for my shot - until I read the sign - and I realized it belonged in the picture. Road signs tend to be quite informative.
2 hour cruise down the Menai Straits.
The Queen of the Sea was originally called [ Wayfarer 11 ], she was built in 1937 for " Stein Ferries", to be used between Long Island and Fire Island, New York.
A Hurricane in 1938 demolished approximately 400 houses on Fire Island, ending the need for the Ferry.
The Wayfarer 11, was then purchased by The British Government in 1941, and loaded onto a freighter to cross the Atlantic.
She was then used for various duties in the UK and in 1942
had been transferred to Holyhead where she was renamed "HMS Macaw". In May 1945 the Admiralty released the vessel and she was bought by the family who now own her.
She was then converted into a Pleasure Cruiser and worked out of Caernarfon until 1951, and then sold again.
Since 1951 she has been based in Rhyl, the North Coast of Scotland, Falmouth and Plymouth.
In 1984 she was purchased by the same family again for the second time and brought back to Caernarfon where she now
operates as a pleasure cruiser once more.

…… Signage at Witley Court is both informative and attractive thanks to English Heritage, the stabling, coach house & courtyards were equally as impressive as the house! Spent a bit of time taking this single shot so that I’d include the house at the rear - though not in the original orientation as built I hasten to add, (see link below for plans) Finally plenty of extra nudges on the sliders to get the Mix & Match shot I was after in my head. Happy Sliders Sunday, Alan:-)……

However, the visit to the kiosk was informative, as the shop assistant told me someone is apparently looking for me because I was recommended. The best place to learn more is the Garrison. And here I learned more than I might have liked and my past began to catch up with me.
The recommendation comes from my old friend Richard "Rick" Blaine, a name that brings back memories of my past. Perhaps it is now time to tell a little more about it. It all started in Paris, just before the occupation. Rick and I were working together in the underground for the Résistance and had to flee together. We took the usual route at the time for anyone who couldn't get to the new world by a direct route. From Paris via Marseille and the Mediterranean to Oran and from there through the northern fringes of Africa to Casablanca in French Morocco. There our journey ended and Rick opened his Café American, I did everything for him in the background.
Unfortunately, we parted ways after the escape of Victor Laszlo and the mysterious death of Major Strasser. Rick was able to stay thanks to his connections but when the usual suspects were arrested it was time for me to leave Casablanca. The way to the new world via Lisbon was blocked and so I only had the unknown and by most feared second route to Diesel City. And now this is where I sit, curious about what awaits me and unaware of how close the old enemy had come.

Since today's first photo served more of an informative rather than an artistic purpose, I would like to add a little nature to it. This is a photo from my trip to Thailand. Yes, I actually still have photos left.
You may have seen this tree before. At that time I photographed him in profile and he filled the entire frame. Here you can see a little more of the beautiful landscape in which I met him.
Exploring the region around Kanchanaburi was one of the highlights of my trip and I know I'm not done with it yet.
That's why this region is again on my list for my next visit.

Die Region rund um den Ort Kanchanaburi zu erkunden, war eines der Highlights meiner Reise und ich weiß, ich bin auch noch nicht fertig damit.
Darum ist diese Region erneut auf meiner Liste, für meinen nächsten Besuch.

„Synthese von Welt und Geist“,
wie sie sich in der Anschauung realisiert.
Im Zusammenhang von Goethes eigenwilliger Erkenntnistheorie handelt es sich um einen Zentralbegriff:
„Alles kommt auf ein Aperçu an. Es ist das Höchste, wozu es der Mensch bringt, und weiter bringt er es nicht.“

The French term was introduced into German by Schiller in 1797. For Johann Wolfgang Goethe, aperçu then means a
“synthesis of world and spirit”,
as it is realized in contemplation.
In the context of Goethe's idiosyncratic theory of knowledge, it is a central concept:
“Everything comes down to an aperçu. It is the highest that man can achieve, and that is as far as he can go.”
Such an aperçu provides the intuitive-inductive recognition of a 'schema' that is informative for the understanding of a multitude of individual phenomena.
Since then, however, the term has undergone a noticeable deterioration in meaning, so that today one can also speak pejoratively of a “mere” aperçu - in the sense of a brilliantly, for example paradoxically formulated assertion, but one that is unsound insofar as it lacks evidence and proof.
It's like faith (the belief). It's a small series. I show the light, but not the light source ...

Interesting facts about peahens:
Peahens are the females of the species known as peafowl, which includes Indian, Green, and Congo peafowl. Unlike their male counterparts (peacocks), peahens have more subdued plumage, typically brown, grey, and green. Sexual Dimorphism: Peahens are less colorful than peacocks, an example of sexual dimorphism where males and females of a species exhibit different characteristics. Peahens are generally smaller than peacocks. Peahens do not have the long, extravagant tail feathers that peacocks are famous for. The more muted colors of peahens help them blend into their surroundings, protecting them from predators. Peahens typically lay 3-8 eggs per clutch. They often nest on the ground in hidden areas to protect their eggs from predators. The incubation period for peahen eggs is about 28 days.
Peahens are attentive mothers and take good care of their chicks, known as peachicks.
Peahens are omnivores, feeding on seeds, insects, small reptiles, and fruits.
They spend much of their day foraging for food. Peahens can make a variety of sounds, including calls to their chicks and alarm calls when threatened. In the wild, peahens can live up to 15 years, and in captivity, they can live up to 25 years. Peahens typically mate during the spring and early summer. During the mating season, peahens are attracted to peacocks with the most impressive displays. They often choose mates based on the peacock's tail size, colour, and symmetry. Although peahens lack the elaborate eyespots of peacocks, their feathers can still reflect some iridescence. Peahens are generally more reserved and less aggressive than peacocks. Peahens often form small groups, especially when foraging. Chick Rearing: Female peafowl take sole responsibility for raising the chicks. Common predators include large birds of prey, foxes, and wild cats. Peahens are capable of short flights to escape danger or roost in trees. They prefer to roost in trees at night to stay safe from ground predators.
Peahens are native to South Asia, particularly India, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar. They thrive in forests, open woodlands, and farmlands. Cultural Significance: In many cultures, peahens, like peacocks, are symbols of beauty and fertility. They have adapted well to a variety of habitats and can live near human settlements. Some species of peafowl are considered vulnerable due to habitat loss and hunting. Peahens are popular in zoos and private collections due to their relatively easy care. Peahens malt their feathers annually, usually after the breeding season.
Studies suggest peafowl have good problem-solving skills and memory. Peahens are strong runners on the ground and can cover the ground quickly. They often take dust baths to keep their feathers clean and parasite-free. Peachicks are precocial, meaning they are relatively mature and mobile shortly after hatching. Peachicks learn foraging skills and predator awareness from their mothers. Peahens communicate with their chicks through a series of clucks and whistles. The Indian Peafowl is listed as Least Concern by the IUCN, but the Green Peafowl is considered Endangered due to habitat loss and hunting pressures. These facts highlight the fascinating aspects of peahen behavior, biology, and their role in the ecosystem.

The tours are well organized and prepared for emergencies. They have procedures to evacuate tourists for emergencies or claustrophobic anxieties. They DO NOT ALLOW tripods, monopods, or selfie sticks. They have apparently had problems with tourists.
This is an amazing place. Every turn shows a new amazing, colorful, glowing, canvas. It was easy to take lots of photos. The tough part was culling the photos when I got home.
There were 9 people (representing 4 families) and a guide in our group. The tours are a little under an hour from start to finish. We were the first of 4 or 5 groups in our time slot. The sent us in about 10 minutes apart. The guide is very informative and educational. There was some pressure to keep the group moving. The guide was helpful and took pictures of the families several times during the tour.

The Navajo name for Lower Antelope Canyon is Hasdez twazi’, which means “the spiral role arches.” Lower Antelope Canyon is about 3, 704 feet in elevation and the canyon walls are about 120 above the streambed. This canyon is more narrow to walk through, as it’s shaped like a “V”, so if you are claustrophobic this area is not for you. It goes into the slot canyon and have to maneuver thru closely on stairs, which is harder to walk through. This area is also located within the Le Chee Chapter of the Navajo Nation, near Page, Arizona.

The Maplelawn Garden in Westboro (Ottawa), Ontario, Canada.
The garden at Maplelawn is a rare example of a 19th century walled garden. The Thomson-Cole-Rochester House (built from 1831-1834) and known today as the Keg Manor (restaurant), and its walled garden are very well preserved and provide a living record of how European architecture and landscape concepts were transplanted to Canada. The selection of plants, shrubs, and trees is based on a number of historical records. The garden is maintained by The Friends of Maplelawn, a volunteer organization.
The National Capital Commission (NCC) has been the steward of Maplelawn Garden since the 1950s. In 1989, Maplelawn was designated a national historic site by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada.

When Shasta was completed, it was the 2nd highest dam in the world – surpassed only by Hoover Dam on the Colorado River & was considered one of the greatest engineering feats of all time. Construction started in 1937, providing thousands of much-needed jobs. It was finished 26 months ahead of schedule in 1945. Even before its dedication, Shasta Dam served an important role in WWII providing electricity to California factories.
Shasta Dam, besides generating electricity, provides flood control and carryover water storage for the dry season, vital to irrigation in the Sacramento Valley & navigation on the Sacramento River, as well as keeping freshwater levels in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta high enough for diversion into the California Aqueduct. However, the Dam has greatly changed the environment and ecology of the Sacramento River, & flooded sacred Native American tribal lands.

I had to end my postings from Sapsucker Woods at Cornell Institute with my sunny little friend. He LOVED the shutter click of my camera and would suddenly appear, always keeping a safe distance, but curiously leaning as close as he could from his safe perch. I like to think he contributed to my finding 3 new birds.....one surprise (Olive-sided Flycatcher) and 2 I had been looking for forever (Hairy WP and Wood Thrush). I hated to leave this mecca for birds.....habitat-wise and as an informative, fascinating and beautiful center for birding. But most of all.......thanks and goodbye to my little yellow buddy!
