Martin Tyner, Master Falconer, with his friend of 14 years, a Golden Eagle, named "Scout". Mr. Tyner made an informative as well as enjoyable presentation today on birds of prey at the St. George convention center in Southwest Utah. He represents the Southwest Wildlife Foundation in Cedar City, Utah. I purchased his book, "Healer of Angels" for $20, the proceeds of which go to the Southwest Wildlife Foundation.

“Borgarfjörður eystri is a fjord in east Iceland. It is part of the municipality of Borgarfjarðarhreppur and, as of 2011, the area has a population of around 100 inhabitants. The main settlement is Bakkagerði. The town derives its name from the Álfaborg. Wikipedia”
This turf house was in a small town in Iceland and is currently being used for art children’s art classes and workshops. Our guide was from this town, and spoke idiomatic English very well. She was able to take us on a very informative tour of the village, and we ate lunch in a small restaurant there—mushroom soup and fish!
Here’s a shot from my first trip out to the southwest after a 5 week hiatus while recovering from surgery and catching up on some "real life" issues. My apologies for my absence and many thanks for understanding.
Last month, I was kindly invited by David Swindler of Action Photo Tours to accompany him on his Milky Way workshop to do a Google Earth Scouting presentation for his clients. David’s shooting technique is incredibly technical and produces fantastic results, his ability to work with multiple people on such a technical process was impressive. He not only takes you to the location of your choosing(Weather allowed) but also makes sure that you understand the process and have the shot on the card before leaving. If I wasn’t invited as a guest speaker I would have gladly paid for his very informative workshop.
My highest regards go out to David, Cody, Ingred and all the other team members working there at APT, what a great bunch of fun people, I still had a perpetual smile on my face two days later.
I am providing Skype workshops for those of you interested in learning more about Night Photography, Lightroom and Photoshop. I have been using photoshop professionally for over 25 years and I’m sure I can take your processing to the next level. There are SO many features and tools in photoshop that are being completely overlooked by most photographers. If you are interested in scheduling a Skype session on any of these topics just send me a DM or flickr message and I will be happy to schedule a personalized session just for you. I guarantee you will be happy with your session. Any skill level is welcomed from the newbie to the seasoned professional, and I’ve taught quite a few of them now.
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great day my friends!! :)

In 1717, the ship Squirrel brought Samuel Shute, the royal governor of Massachusetts, to Arrowsic Island on the Kennebec River to renew a peace treaty with the local Indians. The ship ran aground but was later refloated, and the incident was memorialized in the name given to the location: Squirrel Point. The Squirrel Point Light was erected in 1898, and several other buildings were added later. The light was automated in the early 1980s, but before that there were many lighthouse keepers and their families who lived in a house nearby. We saw the lighthouse during a very fun and informative lighthouse cruise in Maine.

This was looking out a window at the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum in Galveston. I didn't really want to go on this tour but Nancy did and I'm glad we went. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's really nice on the inside and very informative.

This wooden bridge connects the two parts of Queens' college in Cambridge. This bridge was built in 1906, replacing an earlier bridge from 1749 (which had seen repairs in 1866). But the later version kept the original design (designed by William Etheridge and built by James Essex the Younger), using straight timber but at the same time creating the allusion of an arch.
The rather unusual design of the bridge has given it its current popular name of the Mathematical Bridge - but as Queens' college themselves point out on their website: "There is no such thing as an “official name” for the bridge. It has never been named." In the 18th century it was known as “Essex’s Bridge”, it was later also known as “Newton’s Bridge” because it was erroneously believed he had designed the it. The bridge was sometimes called the Mathematical Bridge from 1803 onwards - but there was also another Cambridge bridge known by that name. But the bridge is also known as the "Queens' bridge" - the above mentioned website calls it both the Mathematical and Queens' bridge.
If you are really in to bridges I must recommend the college web-page on the subject, it is extensive and very informative.

Today I found the most fascinating & informative website about swans & a man's interaction with them over a 6 month period. His name is Mark Nicolaides & the website link is listed below. There are some absolutely beautiful photos accompanying the story following the life of a family of swans from the birth of the sygnets until the last one leaves, It's well worth a look and certainly put a huge smile on my face :)

a gorgeous wildplant with an amazing bulbuous and hairy flower reminding me of cactus flowers. No matter how hard I searched on websites about Icelandic flora I could not find it. Maybe someone who is an expert should get about doing a really great and informative online catalogue of Iceland's plants and flowers for those that exist are all crap.

I took this backlight shot of a moss cushion with sporophytes sticking far out this afternoon when the sun came out for a while and you could sense spring. The sporophyts are releasing the spores that will give rise to new moss plants that will form spores again. Of course, the whole process is much more complicated than I have presented. Therefore I have picked out a very informative (though quite long) film on YouTube, which also deals with the construction and the importance of mosses.

The Naval Museum of Brest is the most informative naval museum I have ever visited. It is filled with wonderful information.
At the Naval Museum, there is a large room filled with figurehead sculptures (Figures de proue et de poupe). I was especially fascinated by the immense, and magnificent, sculptures of Yves-Etienne Collet, and by the information provided on the various parts of a ship that used to be sculpted.

The calm waters of the gently flowing Elk River touch the mix of stone and concrete footings supporting an incongruous mess of motive power guiding KCS manifest train MSHKC2 17 through the karst topography of the Ozarks at Ginger Blue, MO, a scenically significant stretch of the train's trek from Shreveport to Kansas City. This one is officially down in the history books as the last MSHKC2 ever, as the following day's start would depart as M261--a result of systemwide modifications as KCS ditches their efficient, informative letter-based symbol system for a nonsensical jumble of numbers that don't mean anything to become seemingly more compatible with merger partner Canadian Pacific. So the fun begins, or something like that.

Earlier this summer I met up with another Flickr photographer who is even madder about vintage lenses and cameras than I am. Simon (see links below) has a well supported YouTube channel where he talks about vintage lenses and photography in general. If you are at all interested in vintage lenses his videos are informative, interesting, and entertaining. One of the features of Simon's videos is that he never shows himself to the audience but he has a voice that is memorable. We had a moment of magic on this outing together to the V&A. While we were sitting having a coffee and chatting (about lenses as always!) Simon's first ever fan recognition took place. A chap sitting at the next table recognised Simon's dulcet tones and came over to chat. Turns out he was a fan of Simon's YouTube channel and instantly recognised the voice. 😂

The image here is of the Dale Chihuly glass sculpture on display in one of the main foyers at the V&A. I'm not sure if this is a permanent acquisition by the museum or not. In some ways my own opinion is that while the artistry of Chihuly's work is indisputable (anyone seeing his work on display at Kew Gardens a few years back will know that) I'm not sure whether the setting for this piece works. It seems at odds with it's surroundings in the very Victorian style of the V&A building. I've tried to photograph it in a sympathetic way here, which I think works reasonably well, but when you see the sculpture "in the flesh" my feeling is that it is a little too bold for the setting it's in.

Good morning. This week's featured fish is a cichild sometimes referred to by the common names Polleni Cichlid and Black Diamond Cichlid, while the name Marakely ('black fish') is used among locals in Madagascar where it originates. Few people are aware that Madagascar supports a diverse assortment of endemic freshwater fishes that stand in essentially the same relationship to their extra-Malagasy relatives that lemurs do to other primates. While Paratilapia polleni here is one of the few cichlids in the aquaria trade to come from Madagascar, the freshwater ichthyofauna there is amply endowed with species that would make excellent ornamental fishes.
I hope you enjoy this short series on this unique fish and find the text in the comment section informative.
Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you have a great Friday and upcoming weekend.

A field of Phacelia sitting under the watchful gaze of the Robert Adam designed Folly on Ratcheugh Crag. It was built as an observatory for the 1st Duke and Duchess of Northumberland in the late 18th century. Sadly the Duchess died before its completion. Today it stands like a faux castle looking over to its 'parent' building of Alnwick Castle and the Northumberland hills beyond. If you look closely you will see that only the central tower is 3-dimensional.

Historical street theatre on a Friday night.
Informative and great entertainment.
Bravo!
I think it's the stripes on the canopies (from a TGI Friday's restaurant) and the chimney vent in the street that caught my attention.I read somewhere that the chimney vent looks like something out Dr Seuss, hence the title.
As strangely iconic as the chimney vent may be for some NYC dwellers, have you ever wondered why they're on NYC streets or why they rise up from manholes? Then watch this really informative 7 minute video on NYC's steam system and how it works.I lack knowledge in this area,so watch if you're interested youtu.be/mAB1gesb8

The Ryedale Folk Museum in Hutton-le-Hole, Yorkshire was a very entertaining and informative place to visit. It was one of the highlights of my trip to Yorkshire several years ago. I have never forgotten a very personable pig named Ethel who was a mascot of sorts for the museum. One might say that she lived in Hog Heaven.

The Cape of Good Hope
"So named by Portugal's King John II this area has captured the imagination of European sailors such as Dias who first named it the Cape of Storms in 1488 and later in 1580 Sir Francis Drake who called it the "The Fairest Cape in all the World".
Be sure to visit the Buffelsfontein Visitor Centre that showcases all the plants and animals to look out for in a particular season and is full of informative signage. At the point, visitors are treated to excellent viewing opportunities from both lighthouses that adorn the most south western point in Africa, one still fully functional. The lighthouse is accessible by foot or one can catch the Flying Dutchman funicular to the top."
An informal but informative poll was done recently asking folk their favorite b&w film to shoot. Ilford's HP5+ garnered the most votes. It's not surprising. It's good stuff. Not my go-to choice (that's Foma 100, though it depends upon what I'm shooting), but solid.
It took me a long time to figure out how to both shoot it and develop it to my liking. But I think I'm basically there.
