INFINITY, the installation created by Stephen Newby, constists simply of a ring of light, caught between two mirrors. As everybody who ever stood between two mirrors knows, this creates the effect of endless reflection. To the visitor it looks as if an endless tunnel bores through the canal. It may happen that, as a spectator, you get confused by what you see, but that’s exactly what is intended. Giving the spectator an experience of alienation is what this British artist is after in all his works. ‘I like to make objects that confuse the eye and that give spectators the feeling, if only for a moment, of being in another space dimension.’
Newby entered the public eye by blowing up metal objects. When he works with light, nothing is what it seems to be either. ‘In this case I make use of an existing principle, but in an unexpected place.’ According to Newby the two mirrors symbolize the ‘old’ and the ‘new’ Europe and the endless reflection of light represents all the possibilities coming from mutual collaboration. Besided, the artist adds, INFINITY is about staying united in time. NFINITY is a work you can watch endlessly, which partly due to the fact that it changes with every step you take.

This Infinity Q45 (Nissan President) is a import from the US, left hand drive and MPH speedo, however the roof and the front have been tastelessly modified ruining the whole car. The spray paint is shoddy, however the interior have thankfully been left alone. Very sad, and Criminal offence
Infinity is the sculpture at the entrance to the National Museum of American History.
The Museum of American History was my favorite Smithsonian museum, and I returned to it many times throughout the 90s. I enjoy history (and even minored in it in college), but my favorite parts of the museum were the technology exhibits--early computers, the ENIGMA machine, etc. (Wow! The Internet is awesome--apparently what I remember most from the museum was the Information Age exhibit.) I even saw HDTV for the first time there, about 14 years before I actually had one in my house. (I remember they showed mostly flowers on it, which I assumed was the future of TV.)
Of course, the centerpiece of a visit to the museum was the massive (and tattered) Star Spangled Banner hanging on the wall opposite the entrance.
On a more recent visit to DC, I heard the museum was undergoing renovations. It opened back up late last year, so I was quite excited about visiting it again.
Unfortunately (against Steph's advice), we chose the day before the Inauguration to go, and the museum was incredibly crowded with long lines for the more popular exhibits (Abe Lincoln's hat and the Star Spangled Banner, now in its own room). Outside of the lines, it was complete chaos, with people bumping into each other and wandering this way and that. It was hard to stop and reflect on anything.
Overall--and I admit it may have been the crowds--I wasn't very happy with the renovation. I remember the museum feeling warm and fun. Now it seems much more cold, with small exhibits that don't really connect to each other. And though I completely understand the desire to preserve the flag by restoring it and placing it in its own exhibit, it felt like the "heart" of the old museum was missing. Of course, it could be just that I had built up the memories of the museum, and the renovation could never have matched them.

At the end of its voyage from the Spanish port of Bilbao, the vessel is seen here arriving at its destination at quay nr. 118 / 120 at the Zuidnatie Terminal at the port of Antwerp.
A small selection of my friends Infinity force with the miniatures based on characters from Appleseed and Ghost in the Shell. Some awesome work on these guys to make them look authentic. Batou wins hands down though, he looks bad ass ^_^
