Baghdad, 3 March 2020 - The global increase in hate speech as a vehicle to express and transfer xenophobia, racism and intolerance is deeply troubling. (The UN defines hate speech as “any kind of communication in speech, writing or behaviour which attacks or uses pejorative or discriminatory language with reference to a person or a group on the basis of their religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, colour, descent, gender or other identity factor.”) The UN aims to support its member states to address the root causes and drivers of hate speech and effectively respond to the impact of hate speech on society. Tackling hate speech helps promote peaceful, inclusive societies; helps combat violence against women and minorities and other serious violations of human rights; and plays a key role in countering atrocity crimes and even terrorism.
On 3 March, the UNAMI Human Rights Office brought together, in the presence of UN Under Secretary-General Adama Dieng, UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and the UN global focal point on hate speech, representatives from Iraqi human rights organisations, media monitoring bodies and legal associations, and representatives of diverse communities, to take stock of the dangers that hate speech represents to Iraqi society. Participants discussed cultural factors, legacies of the past including recent armed conflict and acts of terrorism, patterns of discrimination, and current legislation. They offered ideas on how hate speech might be addressed and countered. The role of the Communications and Media Commission and courts in developing regulatory and judicial responses, respectively, was highlighted. All agreed that there is a shared responsibility to prevent and prosecute hate speech, including in private homes, classrooms, newsrooms and social media, places of worship and other public venues.
USG Dieng concluded the discussion with a reminder that “eternal vigilance” was the price to be paid for freedom, and everyone must remain vigilant in opposing hate speech. He launched an appeal for all Iraqis to band together against hatred, discrimination and violent extremism.

The system is based on 6 bike stations, respectively staffed by two employees in two shifts. Ecovolis program has proven successful in dramatically increasing bicycle use in Tirana, which, formerly, was a city without a developed bicycle culture. Ecovolis program is the first project in Albania that provides low-income adults with commuter bicycles as well as a donating program for children bicycles. The program recently completed two major steps, opening new bike stations in the city of Durrës and integrating Tourist Information Point Service to the bicycles stations' structure.
History
The Tirana Community Bicycle Albania project won financial support from the George Soros Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA). An even larger contribution came from the US-based Pedal for Progress organization, which donated 450 bicycles. Sixty of these were used road bikes, which were modified and painted by local technicians to serve as public bikes in the Ecovolis scheme. Another portion was set aside to donate to children and to activists and volunteers at PASS. Still another portion were diverted to the project's Eco Bicycle Shop, a social enterprise which sells bikes for USD 50-150 and reinvests profits for the service and maintenance of Ecovolis bicycles. The main objective of the program was to introduce the community to an inexpensive, environmental friendly form of transport -- the bicycle; to sell used bikes at low prices; to donate bikes to the children of needy families and to PASS volunteers; to establish a bike sharing-scheme in the city (Ecovolis); and to employ financially disadvantaged people and young students to operate the bike-sharing scheme.
System
Each Ecovolis station is staffed by two employees in two shifts and contains 30 -- 60 bicycles. In order to use the bicycles it is required to provide a personal identification document (such as passport or ID card) or by subscribing to the Ecovolis membership Card.
The first black and red bicycles, (also the colors of the Albanian flag) were donated from US-organization Pedal for Progress, (which collect and donate used bicycles). As these bicycles were of different types, converting them for safe and comfortable public use took months of work. The price per bicycle varies from 60 US$ to 90 US$ each. The bicycle is equipped with a front bicycle basket, a behind carrier, a comfortable saddle and a public fender with the Ecovolis sign.
The bicycle stations also provide touristic information to the visitors and a list of the city attractions. Moreover, being a non-profit social enterprise, during particular days the program offers free bicycle service, cycling courses, donations of bicycles and helmets for children in need, bike tours and a bicycle recycle program.

Pius Kyalo has realized increased incomes from producing cheese.
46-year-old Pius Kyalo Mwanzi is the proprietor of Oasis Dairy Investment in Meru county, established in February 2013. He makes mozzarella and cheddar cheese sold in Mombasa and Malindi, with some exports to Zanzibar. Pius collects 350 to 500 liters of milk from Mt. Kenya East. The company has a gross turnover of about KES 200, 0000 (USD 1,966.59) per month producing 50 kilograms of cheese per day.
The small-scale milk trader with technical skills for cheese making was encouraged to start commercial cheese production by the ready market, minimal competition, and high returns. The USAID-KAVES project linked Pius to Mt. Kenya East dairy group to source for raw milk.
KAVES is streamlining milk handling practices at Oasis to facilitate acquisition of the KEBS S-mark certification. This certification is a quality standard which will qualify his product for sale in a wide range of markets, including local supermarkets and exports. The trader has also been trained on hygienic milk handling practices and marketing. Starting with 150 liters per day, the dairy is currently receiving 800 liters per day made into 80 kilograms of cheese valued at KES 2.16 million (USD 21,245.77) monthly.
In 2015, 149 million liters of milk valued at USD 61 million was sold from 156,110 dairy cows owned by farmers working with KAVES. The project continues to focus on improving raw milk quality, value addition, and adoption of good manufacturing practices and linkage to markets.
April 14, 2016. Boston, MA.
Workers rallied and marched through the streets of Boston to demand that minimum wage be increased to $15. Two bills pending on Beacon Hill would raise wages to $15 an hour for about 1,500 service employees at Logan Airport and over 200,000 workers at fast food and "big box" retail chain outlets across the state. Low-wage employees including airport workers, adjunct professors and home care workers turned out to show their solidarity with fast-food workers. The "Fight for $15" campaign is being backed by the Service Employees International Union and began in late 2012, with striking fast-food workers in New York City. Since then, the growing demonstrations have helped make hourly pay a major political issue. Organizers said strikes and protests were planned for cities including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Miami.

Myanmar and neighbouring Pakistan, increasing attacks on religious minorities: whether it is the Rohingya Muslims In .
Burma, or Hindus in Pakistan, we are witnessing continuing prosecution of minorities. .
National Situation .
In our own country, we are live in times marked by an increase in aggressive communalism, corporate loot and corruption, .
suppression of students' rights on campuses and denial of basic facilities, assaults on democratic rights and civil liberties, .
struggles and people's movements and also a physical and ideological offensive on women's the suppression of workers' .
freedom. Riding on the wave of mass anger against price rise, corruption and corporate loot of Congress rule, communal fascist forces led by BJP-RSS have come to power with a huge majority promising 'acche din'. However, in just a few .
months of the NDA rule, the reality of this much-touted acche din has already come to the fore. Railway fares have been .
enormously hiked (a move which was incidentally opposed by Modi when he was aspiring to become the Prime Minister) .
.
thus leading to an overall hike in consumer prices, prices of basic commodities are still skyrocketing, and moreover the .
NDA has carried forward and even accelerated several of UPA's disastrous economic policies such as large-scale FDI in .
various sectors including insurance and defence. Besides, the communal fascist forces have already launched their vitriolic . .
campaign of hate and division across the country. The stage was set when one accused for instigating riots in UP, was .
rewarded' with a Ministerial post in the Union cabinet and soon after, a young Muslim software engineer was murdered .
'in Pune, a Muslim caterer was forced to break his fast during roza by elected MPs belonging to the Shiv Sena, RSS .
ideologues are being given a free reign to claim that all Indians are 'Hindus', and now the entire state of UP is being .
carefully brought under the sway of a communal frenzy, even well-known public figures such as Sania Mirza are being .
forced to 'prove' their 'nationality'. BJP-RSS' pet project of saffronising education started with a big bang with the .
system worked well in ancient times, and one Dinanath Batra's outlandish books being made compulsory supplementaryappointment of YSudarshan Rao, as the head of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) who holds that the caste .
readings in 42,000 govt schools of Guajarat. From the UPA to the NDA, so-called 'elected representatives' in ruling class regimes take dictation from corporate houses and their masters in the World Bank and the IMF. Democratically elected governments openly defend corporate .
profiteering and resort to brutal state repression in POSCO, Manesar, Nagri, Nandigram, Koodankulam, Jagatsinghpur and .
elsewhere. And all protest -whether it is against mindless nuclearisation or against GM crops, against forcible land acquisition or against large dams -is bemg termed as 'anti-national' not just hy the UPA, but by the NDA too. If the Congress regime was embroiled in several cases of corruption and corporate loot, from the coal scam, CWG, 2G, KG Basin to Adarsh, the solar scam in Kerala etc, various NDA gov~rnments too have been implicated in massive scams such as ~he .
massive illegal mining in Bellary and the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh. If the Congress refused to take steps to .
improve the institutional response to rape and sexual violence, the NDA continues to appoint ·rape accused as Ministers in .
senior positions of power. The NDA has moreover shown all indications in its first budget of carrying forward and .
intensifying the UPA's legacy of "fund-cuts" for social welfare schemes such as NREGA and public health car~, and for education. .
However, across the country, peoples' movements are also challenging land acquisition anp state-sponsored corporate .
militantly resisting state repression to defend their lives and livelihoods in the mineral-rich areas of land grab -Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Odisha, in Koodankulam, Jaitapur and Fatehabad, and from Uttarakhand in the north to Kathikudam and Arippa in Kerala. And as peasants, tribals and poor protest against corporate takeover of their land, .
workers are also demanding their rights and protesting !3gainst corporate greed. .
Whether it is ~he SEZ Act (passed with the help .of CPI-CPI(M) in2005), or the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and .
.
Resettlement Bill (lARR), legislations are being passed in order to facilitate, legalise and protect the regime of corporate .
land-grab campaign in the country. The present government is also all set to further ease the path for forcible land grab, .. .
opening up of SEZs, and 'reforming' labor laws to the detriment of working class and furthering corporate exploitation .
and loot. Neo-liberal economic policies implemented by both the UPA as well as the NDA (rDI, privatit'ation, exclusionary .
.
targeting based on dubious poverty estimates, steady dismantling of PDS and a shift to 'cash transfers' for instance) are-.
taking their toll in the form of reducing employment, rampant contractualisation, drastic fall in wage share and steady .
.
rise in farmer suicides. .
The UPA had brought in a slew of poliCies to further restrict access to affordable and quality education: the FYUP in .
.
~d the Educational Tribunal bill for instance. As a result of massive student .
Delhi University, the Foreign University Bill anunrest and a sustained campaign by students and teachers in DU, the govt was forced to roll back the FYUP. However, the .
rest of the policy assaults on the very idea of an inclusive and affordable education are very much on the anvil. The NDA .
for instance has till now refused to get rid of the elitist CSAT pattern in the UPSC exam, neither is it heeding to the democratic demand of ending the exclusion of classical and 'foreign languages' including Arabic and Persian, French, .

I recently noticed an increase in my trash pick-up bill and an extra charge of $6.00 showing up as "Residential Recyclin."!
So all this time I thought I was doing the right thing by taking the extra time to washout my cans & glass bottles & #1 and #2 plastics and stacking my magazines & creating two separate bins to store them until it was time to put them out for curbside pick-up.
But what is my reward for doing all that?! A PENALTY charge of SIX DOLLARS!
Why am I being penalized for doing the right thing?! I guess it's true what they say, "No good deed goes unpunished."
This company with three names (Republic services, Allied waste, and Suburban disposal service) have been slowing increasing my quarterly trash bill this way for years yet no changes were ever made to my bill except to increase the charges:
2009 = $63.61
2010 = $64.20
2011 = $68.20
2012 = $73.62
NOW = $76.32
2013: Since I dropped the yardwaste & recycling pick-up, my qtrly bill has gone from $76.32 to $62.47
Therefore, the incentive to me is to stop recycling. It kills me now to just throw away my water bottles whereas before, I ALWAYS recycled my Dasani water bottles.
In Sept 2012, I called up the recycling dept at my DORCHESTER COUNTY here in SC.
The lady I spoke to gave me several recycling drop-off sites. I've lived in Dorchester County for more than a decade and had never heard of these small town that had these drop-off sites. I only recognized one place and it was over 10 miles out of my way with weird hours.

Increases your range of motion while maintaining muscle integrity. Facilitated stretching is the activation or engagement of the muscles that are stretching. Activating the muscle while stretching causes the Golgi tendon organ to send a signal to the spinal column, and the spinal column speaks back, telling the muscles to relax.

51 year old Moses Msinanga cannot recall the last time he lost a beast to ill-health or malnutrition. His cattle are healthy and well –fed throughout the year regardless of season. His secret lies in producing fodder as supplementary feed for his cattle. Introduced to him in 2014, by the project, Msinanga is one of the many farmers that have seen a significant change in their livestock productivity, since they received seed and training from the project.

Silver City Historic District (Boundary Increase & Amendment)
Silver City, New Mexico
Listed 09/25/2013
Reference Number: 13000767
The town of Silver City includes four main historic districts. The Silver City Historic District (SCHD), representing the core commercial downtown, the earliest and finest residences of prominent settlers, and important public buildings such as the Grant County Courthouse, which was the town's first National Register district listing in 1978 (#375377). The Chihuahua Hill Historic District is located to the south; North Addition to the north; and, Black's Addition to the west-ali adjoining the SCHD. The Big Ditch or San Vicente Arroyo is the site of the original Main Street, which was destroyed by a catastrophic flood in 1895. Today, the Ditch creates a ribbon of green space with sizable trees and parkland that is an amenity to the town, and serves as the eastern boundary of the SCHD. This amendment and small boundary increase includes an extension of the period of significance, which originally ended in 1930, to 1960. The south end of Bullard Street, which includes the Bullard Hotel, the Texas-Louisiana Power Plant, the Silver Liquor Company Warehouse, the Ice Storage Building, and the Home Furniture Building was excluded from the early district listing. However, these resources, which fall within the new period of significance, warrant inclusion based on their location, historic integrity, and strong associations with the railroad boom of Silver City. This last block on the east side of South Bullard is being nominated as a boundary increase to the Silver City Historic District for local significance under Criterion A for Community Planning/Development and Criterion C for Architecture as intact examples of a railroad-era hotel, power plant supplying electricity to the town and nearby communities, and warehouses used for storage of important commodities. These resources reflect Silver City's early twentieth-century growth and reveal the influence that the railroad had on commercial development. The new period of significance also allows the inclusion of many important landmark buildings that date from between 1930 and 1960 and were considered neutral in the original nomination. These historic resources are interwoven with the late nineteenth and early twentieth century building fabric, and reflect the growth experienced in Silver City between the Depression and the years following World War II. The added resources represent evolving taste in design and style, new building technologies such as the abundant use of steel casement windows and even curtain walls, and Silver City's move toward modernization. These resources, too, are eligible for inclusion under Criteria A and C.

With the end of daylight saving time as Autumn commences, the dusk-time increase in feeding behaviour by Zealandia's kaka occurs just before the sanctuary closes for the day, which is great for visitors as they really get to see a lot of birds at the feeders.
A parrot endemic to the forests of New Zealand.
There are two subspecies, the North Island Kākā, Nestor meridionalis septentrionalis, and the South Island Kākā, N. m. meridionalis. The name Kākā is a Māori language word meaning "parrot".
The New Zealand Kaka is a medium sized parrot, around 45 cm (18 in) in length and weighing about 550 g, and is closely related to the Kea (also native to New Zealand and the worl’d only alipine parrot) but has darker plumage and is more arboreal. The forehead and crown are greyish-white and the nape is greyish-brown. The neck and abdomen are more reddish, while the wings are more brownish. Both sub-species have a strongly patterned brown/green/grey plumage with orange and scarlet flashes under the wings; color variants which show red to yellow coloration especially on the breast are sometimes found.
The calls include a harsh ka-aa and a whistling u-wiia.
The New Zealand Kaka lives in lowland and mid-altitude native forest. Its strongholds are currently the offshore reserves of Kapiti Island, Codfish Island and Little Barrier Island. It is breeding rapidly in the mainland island sanctuary at Zealandia, Karori Sanctuary, with over 100 chicks hatched since their reintroduction in 2002 to the extent that Wellington, New Zealand’s capital, is now uniquely the only city in New Zealamd where kaka are returning to suburban gardens.
The New Zealand Kaka, like many parrots, uses its feet to hold its food. It feeds on fruits, berries, seeds, flowers, buds, nectar and invertebrates. It uses its strong beak to shred the cones of the kauri tree to obtain the seeds. It has a brush tongue with which it feeds on nectar, and it uses its strong beak to dig out the grubs of the longhorn beetle.
Kaka make their nests in hollow trees, laying clutches of 2 to 4 eggs in late winter. Both parents assist in feeding the chicks.
The New Zealand Kaka is considered vulnerabl. It has greatly declined, in part from habitat loss, in part because of introduced wasps, possums and bees, which compete with the New Zealand Kaka for food. Introduced stoats, rats and domestic cats also take a heavy toll of chicks and sitting hens.
