The Challenge:
As world population increases, so does the need for universally available education. This education ranges from access to skilled labor training and university liberal arts to basic public health information. The problem is how to physically bring together educators and students. Schools in sparsely populated regions struggle with cost-effective course offerings for a small number of students. Students face a limited number of program options, and challenging schedules with commuting. In developing nations, higher education may be impossible without significant wealth and freedom to travel. In farming communities, every member of the family may be needed during the daylight hours.

Early in 1966 the Australian Government decided to increase the Royal Australian Air Force's (RAAF) active commitment in Vietnam . Later that year on 12 June, No. 9 Squadron RAAF arrived in Vung Tau equipped with eight Iroquois UH-1B helicopters.
The squadron was posted to Vietnam with the specific task of operating in direct support of the 1st Australian Task Force which was based at Nui Dat, a rubber plantation situated in the centre of Phuoc Tuy Province, about eighteen miles due north of the Vung Tau air base.
In the later part of 1967, the RAAF began to replace 9 Squadron's UH-1B aircraft with the larger and more powerful UH-1H variant. At the same time the squadron's strength was to be doubled from eight to sixteen helicopters. Due to the RAAF's other commitments in Vietnam , Malaysia and within Australia , this decision resulted in a severe shortage of airforce pilots and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) was asked to fill the gap temporarily. Consequently eight RAN Fleet Air Arm pilots were assigned for duties with 9 Squadron in 1968.

They’ve been there since the building was constructed in 1969, but in the summer of 2015, Croy Gymnasium’s bleachers were replaced as part of a plan to increase safety and modernize aesthetics. A renovation in the making for several years, Farnham Equipment Company continually checked in with the University of Findlay’s Athletic Director and, as funding became available, Croy Gymnasium made significant upgrades and renovations, “From a safety standpoint, we need to do this,” Givens explained. “It’s the right thing to do.”
Patrick Kindelin, of Farnham Equipment Company, worked closely with the University’s Associate Athletic Director for Development and Business, Jim Givens. Givens, along with his staff had two priorities for the new seating with the number one requirement being a barrier between the team seating and spectator seating on the Visitors’ Side and the second, to develop reserved seating on the Home Side.
Givens’ decision to work with Farnham Equipment Company became simple when, “they were the only company to provide multiple options for us to review to determine the best seating layouts. The other seating company only want to know what to price out. We knew what we wanted and after several revisions, Farnham Equipment Company, along with Hussey Seating Company, came up with the best solution.” Additionally, “they could also provide new logo chairs and scorer’s tables for a complete turnkey package.”
The Hussey Seating Company Visitors’ Bleacher incorporated an elevated front aisle 54” wide with a front rail the entire length of the bleacher bank, separating spectator seating on the Visitors’ Side and leaving enough room for the scorer’s tables as well as team and coach seating to be on the playing court, creating the barrier they had requested.
Givens and his staff chose Hussey’s CourtSide Seats with CourtSide Spacers featuring cup holders and orange contoured backrests for their reserved seating section. This option maximized available reserved seating, giving the University more opportunity for revenue growth through reserved seating ticket sales.
Additional seating was provided at the end courts with Hussey Seating Company’s Maxam1 Portable Bleachers. The University of Findlay incorporated eleven portable bleachers adding 165 net seats and giving Croy Gymnasium an arena-type feel. The University took advantage of Hussey’s CourtSign Graphics option and added their own graphics to the Maxam1 skirt board for an added touch of school spirit. The graphics varied for each portable Maxam1 bleacher and included the University’s twitter handle, website, and e-mail address.
The renovation included a re-branding of the school logos that were featured throughout the gymnasium to complement the newly painted University of Findlay wall graphics and new conference banners, including Hussey’s CourtSide Logos, seat number graphics, new Clarin Portable Chairs for team seating, and a Nike sponsored Safety End Closure Curtain. The bleachers featured orange aisle rails paired with their black CourtSide seats, completing the look for the Oiler’s new gymnasium.
Farnham Equipment Company provided five 8-foot Allied Scoring Tables with interchangeable graphic panels that were customized by the University’s sponsors.
“Farnham was great to work with from the design to the installation, it all worked out so well. Their installers are top notch.” Jim and his staff thought so highly of the installation crew that they provided several lunches and took them out for dinner. On the last day of installation, the basketball coaching staff gave the crew University of Findlay t-shirts and had a “team” photo of the installation crew.

As a means to increase efficiency of operations and enhance communications among all design disciplines, Zimmerman began the process of a space needs analysis and consideration of potential sites for re-location in the Greater Milwaukee area. The firm identified a need for 40,000 s.f. in the Milwaukee area for our staff of 100+ professionals. As a 100 year old business with a strong story to tell, an added criteria was to develop a building that would have a similar story to our own. A 25,000 s.f. warehouse building which sat among a complex of century old buildings, originally developed utilized by the public gas utility, in Milwaukee’s emerging Menomonee River Valley, was identified as a potential candidate. The open space structure allowed for a free-standing mezzanine to be incorporated which provides adequate space for current needs as well as future expansion of staff. Although the exterior of the building retains the intent and character of original designer, Alexander Eschweiler, the interior design solution is open office concept with a focus on collaborative spaces, in which full or partial teams can meet face-to-face on a moment’s notice to resolve project issues.
Since occupying the structure earlier this year, the firm has hosted a visit from the US Secretary of Commerce (Gary Locke) and has received recognition from the Business Journal of Milwaukee as the 2011 “Central City Business” award winner in the medium sized business category. We have also hosted a variety of other industry functions in our “gallery space” including MATC’s Gallery Night which brings together building industry representatives with MATC interior design students.

Ecovolis program has proven successful in dramatically increasing bicycle use in Tirana, which, formerly, was a city without a developed bicycle culture. Ecovolis program is the first project in Albania that provides low-income adults with commuter bicycles as well as a donating program for children bicycles. The program recently completed two major steps, opening new bike stations in the city of Durrës and integrating Tourist Information Point Service to the bicycles stations' structure.
History
The Tirana Community Bicycle Albania project won financial support from the George Soros Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA). An even larger contribution came from the US-based Pedal for Progress organization, which donated 450 bicycles. Sixty of these were used road bikes, which were modified and painted by local technicians to serve as public bikes in the Ecovolis scheme. Another portion was set aside to donate to children and to activists and volunteers at PASS. Still another portion were diverted to the project's Eco Bicycle Shop, a social enterprise which sells bikes for USD 50-150 and reinvests profits for the service and maintenance of Ecovolis bicycles. The main objective of the program was to introduce the community to an inexpensive, environmental friendly form of transport -- the bicycle; to sell used bikes at low prices; to donate bikes to the children of needy families and to PASS volunteers; to establish a bike sharing-scheme in the city (Ecovolis); and to employ financially disadvantaged people and young students to operate the bike-sharing scheme.
System
Each Ecovolis station is staffed by two employees in two shifts and contains 30 -- 60 bicycles. In order to use the bicycles it is required to provide a personal identification document (such as passport or ID card) or by subscribing to the Ecovolis membership Card.
The first black and red bicycles, (also the colors of the Albanian flag) were donated from US-organization Pedal for Progress, (which collect and donate used bicycles). As these bicycles were of different types, converting them for safe and comfortable public use took months of work. The price per bicycle varies from 60 US$ to 90 US$ each. The bicycle is equipped with a front bicycle basket, a behind carrier, a comfortable saddle and a public fender with the Ecovolis sign.
The bicycle stations also provide touristic information to the visitors and a list of the city attractions. Moreover, being a non-profit social enterprise, during particular days the program offers free bicycle service, cycling courses, donations of bicycles and helmets for children in need, bike tours and a bicycle recycle program.

This is a seismograph station record from Norris Junction in Yellowstone, Wyoming. The increase in noise in the graph (click on the image to zoom in) is a major eruption of Steamboat Geyser. The eruption started at 3:59 AM on 8 November 2019.
Steamboat is the world's tallest geyser. Its eruptions are normally unpredictable - it can go years or even decades without erupting. Steamboat entered an exciting active phase in spring 2018. From fall to the end of 2018, Steamboat continued to erupt about once every 5 to 9 days. 2018 set the record for the most active year ever, with 32 eruptions. 2019 broke that record - this is the 43rd eruption of Steamboat Geyser this year. In January 2019, intervals (= eruption start to eruption start) were about 9 to 11.5 days. In February 2019, intervals were about 7 to 9.5 days. March 2019 intervals were about 6 to 8 days. In April 2019, intervals were 14 days and 17 days. Longer intervals between Steamboat eruptions are known to occur during "disturbances" at Norris Geyser Basin (this also happened in summer 2018). In May 2019, after the disturbance ended, intervals were 7 days, 5 days, 5.5 days, 6.8 days, 7 days, and 5 days. In June 2019, intervals were 5 days, 5.5 days, 3 days, 3.4 days, 4.5 days, and 5.5 days. ~Three day intervals are remarkably short for Steamboat Geyser. In July 2019, intervals were 5 days, 6.75 days, 7.5 days, 5.8, and ~6.25 days. In August 2019, intervals were 13.6 days, 7.6 days, and 6.9 days. The two week long interval in August was due to another Norris Basin disturbance. In September 2019, intervals were ~6.7 days, 8.8 days, ~6.1 days, ~7.3 days, and ~6.3 days. In October 2019, intervals were ~6.3 days, 8.3 days, 6.4 days, and 8.1 days. The most recent interval was ~8.5 days.

Improving household nutrition
Nutrition is a crucial aspect that cross-cuts accross all of FAO’s work and is central in achieving the goal of zero hunger. Both small and large livestock contribute greatly to household nutrition. The ‘Making a living from Livestock’ project has been supporting an initiative on infant and young child feeding by diversifying household diets including locally available small livestock and livestock products. Through the project, Village Health Workers such as Portia Ncube have received training on infant nutritional health, diets and weight monitoring that her and her group are passing on to members of the community.

Increasing number of high rise buildings in some developing countries sometime is considered to be the sign of progress. But without an integrated comprehensive city plan, those building might have only became a blocking to our relationship with nature and environment, including in enjoying sunset..
