The Impossible Project
In October 2008 The Impossible Project saved the last Polaroid production plant for Integral Instant film in Enschede (NL) and started to re-invent and re-produce a new intant film for traditional Polaroid Cameras.

A quick photo of two railroad logos of the past reveals an impossible mashup of an ex Chicago and North Western switch engine and a Milwaukee Road caboose.
Gearing up for the Oxford retro film night, I bought some instant film for my untried Polaroid 600 camera today. The film was four times the price of the camera, which says something.
Wonderful packaging from the Impossible Project. I just hope the temperature on Thursday evening is between 17 and 24 C! (The operating temperature for this film.)
Pants with waist sizes all the way into the 50's can be easily found at any department store in the US. Inseam sizes of 34-35 are a little harder to find but most stores will have some. NOBODY has 40x34. Is tall AND fat all that unusual?
I found the rare jewel above in a Levi's store after being assured by the clerk that they did not have anything in that size. There were literally thousands of pairs of jeans in this store and exactly one pair in my size. Luckily they are 501's but I would have bought them even if they were pink corduroy.
We were given an assignment to shoot the impossible, no Photoshop allowed. These are the images that I came up with.
I was trying (and failing) to draw one of Escher's impossible cubes one day at school when I came across this shape - an impossible shape. It's all my own work, so if you have made something like it, it's just a coincidence. This came out of my own brain. And sure, it isn't as good as Escher's, but I'm glad I actually made it. Au revoir.

A January weekend we made a trip with our friends in the Slovak Paradise. It is a moderately difficult route with plenty of ladders and railings, etc. But this time most of the ladders and other equipment were covered in thick ice and my wife turned out to have strong vertigo... so the 5-hour trip took 7 hours. The last ladder section was so icy that it was totally impossible - well-equipped mountaineers also turned back - and we had our 7-year-old son, too! Turning back was no option to us - the same ladders would have been especially dangerous downwards - so we decided to take a detour on the mountainside... By the way, my son was brave and very disciplined. We finally found the end of the trail on the ridge and by 7 (in total darkness) we found our car in the carpark. Afterwards we had a great dinner on our way back home. All in all, it was a great experience and nice example of teamwork as well.
