William Livingstone was an important public spirited citizen of Detroit in the early 1900's. He was a bank President but is best known as the President of The Lakes Carriers Association from 1902 to his death in 1925. He was the driving force for enlarging the Soo Canal by adding additional locks, thus enhancing ship traffic from Lake Superior to Lake Huron.

The lighthouse was a memorial built in 1930 with private funds and stands on the eastern tip of the Belle Island Park located on the Detroit River. The 50 foot tall square fluted tower is made of marble, the only one in the U.S., and is an active lighthouse with a light signal of a white flash every 4 seconds.

Oh, yeah. This is my new Flickr banner, let meh know what you think. Also, I guess this'll count as my Pic of the Day for today, since I forgot earlier...

So I was going through photos and rotating them upright when I accidentally rotated the wrong way. I rotated the image -270 degrees instead of 90, which destroyed the image.

In "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" it has a horrendous time rotating images with color profiles other than sRGB. What's more, it automatically re-saves the image for you making all damage terminal.

I did some quick testing. The original file in the center was taken in Adobe RGB on camera. I cropped it in Photoshop, which is set to automatically use and embed Adobe RGB. So what I did was save different versions of the file then rotate them with WPFV. sRBG didn't have much of an effect so I rotated it 360 degrees 8 times, whereas the others are rotated one revolution. On the sRGB you can see extra amounts of noise, but the colors aren't as damaged. On the lower left I saved the original file (Adobe RGB) without embedding a profile, which appears to be the worst of the lot.

So.... don't use that program to rotate. Irreparable color harm will plague you. Lightroom seems to be pretty quick about it. Drop a note if you know if a safe way to rotate pictures as easily as WPFV.

Kindergartens are very important to children’s early development. Research has proven that those children who attend such institutes from a young age tend to do better when they reach primary school. Plan supports this kindergarten in the Rembang district which is giving children a head start in their education. Kindergartens also carry the benefit of freeing up the children’s parents time so that they can work and earn money that can benefit the family by raising money to pay for the child’s education or pay for other expenses.

Why Your Annual Eye Exam Is so Important for your eye health

The first Exhaustive eye exam should be done on children when they start school, even if they are not experiencing symptoms and do not show any signs that they are not seeing well. A child can not complain about poor vision, because at his age he may not realize he is not seeing well. Searching for lasik eye surgery Michigan can be challenging, a Michigan eye surgery specialist at the Yaldo Eye center can help you with any questions or concerns you may have about lasik.

There are patients who come for the first time to an eye examination at age 35 and have a completely unusable eye due to untreated amblyopia, an eye disorder that prevents vision from developing properly during the first years of childhood.

This is an example of why it is imperative to start undergoing eye examinations as a child and continue throughout the school years and into adulthood, even if no visual symptoms are experienced. Another example is a person who has glaucoma. Glaucoma may not have symptoms until the vision is completely lost. An early diagnosis considerably improves the prognosis of this disease.

Annual eye exams are critical to your health

Anyone who begins to experience vision difficulties, either while using a computer or reading a book, should undergo an eye exam. An adult without vision problems should undergo a comprehensive eye exam every two years even if they have not experienced any visual symptoms. Adults who wear glasses or contact lenses or who have a problem with their eyes should have an eye exam annually.

A patient who has a systemic problem that can affect the eyes, such as diabetes, inflammatory disease, or uncontrolled hypertension, should undergo an eye exam every year. Sometimes, diabetics need to control their eyes more than once a year, perhaps two or three times a year, depending on the control of their blood sugar levels.

What kind of tests includes a complete eye exam?

A comprehensive eye exam is made up of many different tests. The first step is to do a good interrogation to create the clinical history: to determine which is the main condition and why the patient has come to undergo an eye examination. Then, we perform two initial tests which consist of measurements of visual acuity. These tests require the patient to read letters from an eye chart attached to the wall (for distance vision) and a text from a sheet held in the hand (for near vision), both with and without glasses or lenses. Contact. If you or a loved one is searching for lasik eye surgery Michigan, look no further than the Yaldo eye center.

Then we will go to the objective part of the ocular examination, in which the ophthalmologist will obtain information that does not depend on the patient’s answers. For example, the doctor will examine the retina, the cornea, the eye movements (it is evaluated by having the patient follow the movement of an object with the eyes.) This ensures that the muscles related to the movement of the eyes and the parts of the brain that control those muscles work correctly), intraocular pressure (using a device called applanation tonometer just touch the surface of the eye and measures the pressure of the fluid inside the eye), pupillary reflexes (is checked by tracking the behavior of the pupil in response This tests how the individual pupil responds to light, and it ensures that both pupils respond to light in tandem), etc.

The ophthalmologist will examine the ocular structures through a biomicroscope, a device that has very bright lenses and lights through which the doctor looks to see the anterior, middle and posterior part of the eye. If necessary, the ophthalmologist can apply drops to the patient’s eye to dilate the pupils, which allows the ophthalmologist to evaluate not only the central part of the retina but also the peripheral area. Here at the Yaldo eye center, we are transparent about lasik eye surgery cost, speak with a Michigan laser eye surgery specialist at our clinic today!

Finally, the doctor will propose a therapeutic plan based on the findings obtained. For example, it may be necessary for the patient to wear glasses, or to undergo Michigan eye surgery.

As a cellist, one of the most important components of my equipment is my strings. For years, I have used Spirocore strings which are made by the Viennese company of Thomastik-Infeld (www.thomastik-infeld.com). Last year the Emerson Quartet was given a tour of the factory by Wolfgang Weiss, a violinist who is head of marketing for the company, and we tried many different strings, including new types in development, and gave the technicians direct feedback.

Wolfgang Weiss visited New York last week and gave a riveting talk on the physics of strings at the shop of violin dealer Gregory Singer on 80th street (www.singerviolins.com). Greg has wonderful space, in the building just behind the famous H&H Bagels shop, where he presents concerts and all kinds of interesting events.

Included in Wolfgang’s talk were videos taken of moving strings with a high speed camera, allowing for extreme slow motion viewing. One of them, shown in the photo below, was the exact same action as is shown in my Cello Talk video No. 12, Bow and String, which demonstrates what is happening when bow pulls string. Fascinating, even for non-players

n what was probably the least enjoyable game to watch this season, for many reasons, the important fact was that Longridge prevailed and left Turton with all 3 points to return to the top of the West Lancashire League Premier Division.

In a week where West Lancs games have been postponed, and ordered to be replayed after 87 minutes, both sides agreed to play the match over two halves of 40 minutes each.

On a difficult surface, in extremely windy conditions, Turton played to a rigid game plan and the referee struggled to impose his authority from very early on in the game. The tactic however proved successful as, without troubling Lee Dovey in the Town goal, they made it to half time without conceding, nor looking particularly troubled by Town's superior possession.

Crowd favourite Joe Melling had returned to the Longridge side after a recent head injury, and he had a headed half chance at the far post after a Brad Carsley cross that unfortunately came to nothing. In a sign of things to come Town complained that Melling had been stamped on by the Turton keeper, but their appeals came to nothing.

Manager Lee Ashcroft's frustration at both his own side's efforts, and the lack of protection shown to his players by the referee, was obvious as the side's went in 0-0 at half time after exactly 40 minutes.

Longridge now had the strong wind at their backs, and Jack Preston (pictured) was introduced at half time in place of the unfortunate Conor Linighan, whose neat skilful style was not suited to the playing surface. Town were now lined up in a 3-5-2 formation with Preston joining leading scorer Brad Carsley up front.

Carsley and Preston linked well as Town went a little more direct and, after good work from Carsley, Preston stabbed the ball home with 20 minutes remaining to finally give Town the lead that their superiority deserved. In the aftermath however, the Turton keeper clearly punched Ash Ball and was given a straight red card leaving the Home side down to ten men. 0-1 to Town.

This should have resulted in Longridge going on to win the game comfortably, but this wasn't the case as Turton arguably played better with 10 men than 11. However, with Man of the Match Ged Smith controlling play at the back for Town, Lee Dovey was never troubled, and at the other end Longridge failed to test the outfield replacement goalkeeper as the light faded, and the elusive second goal never came, nor was it needed.

As the referee blew the whistle to end a particularly frustrating game, Mark Woods was shown a red card, presumably for something he said after the game had ended. Who knows....it was that kind of game!

After the match Manager Lee Ashcroft was rightly just pleased that his side were leaving with 3 points, " I've not a lot to say really. I suppose the cliche is that you need to win games like that if you are going to win League titles, but there is not a lot of satisfaction aside from that. I feel for my lads because they've worked hard with everything against them tonight, in very difficult circumstances, and I'm just delighted to get out of here with the 3 points. We've no game on Saturday, nor have Turton, so maybe we could have played the game at the weekend, I don't know. It's 3 points and I'll draw a line under it."

This is a photograph from the second round of the Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 14th May 2014 at 20:00. The race follows the roads and trails around Belvedere and is a very testing 5KM route. The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Over 380 people took part in tonight's event. The weather was much improved on last week with warm and mild conditions for the race.

This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Monks of the very old and important Abbey of St. Victor. Marseille, where Catalan Isarn had been abbot a few decades before, founded a dependent priory here in 1079.

The church, consecrated in 1117, is the last remaining structure of that monastery. The well restored church is a perfect romanesque basilica, with a nave and two aisles. It had three apses originally, but unfortunately the left of the semicircular apses was demolished during the 18th century. It got replaced by this rectangular sacristy.

Some large cracks can be seen in the masonry of the main apse. These cracks may been caused by the earthquakes in 1427 and 1428. The earthquakes caused a lot of damage in the area, especially in the nearby village, where most buildings collapsed.

At Glendurgan Garden on DILO Day 23 September 2015

Three important girls in a very important place.

As we clean out my grandparent's house and prepare to sell it, it seemed fitting to take three girls who have been important to me during this past year there for a photo.

Francis came to me the Wednesday before my grandmother's stroke and about 10 days before we found out she had terminal cancer.

Betty Jane was purchased the day my grandmother passed away and if named after her. I can't explain it but she just had to come live with us.

The nameless lovely on the end I purchased for my birthday. I was having a difficult time, as this was my first birthday without any of my grandparents, and she just made me smile.

It sounds silly but this lovely trio of girls has provided some much needed distraction during a difficult year. That may sound silly but hey, it worked. :]

The views from various windows at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. While the art inside was nice (a bit too Religious for me), I preferred to look at the views outside!

We had a long timed queue to get in, but as were in a tour group, we got in faster than other people. They also have airport style security as you enter the museum.

The Uffizi Gallery (Italian: Galleria degli Uffizi, pronounced [ɡalleˈriːa deʎʎ ufˈfittsi]) is a prominent art museum located adjacent to the Piazza della Signoria in the Historic Centre of Florence in the region of Tuscany, Italy. One of the most important Italian museums, and the most visited, it is also one of the largest and best known in the world, and holds a collection of priceless works, particularly from the period of the Italian Renaissance.

After the ruling house of Medici died out, their art collections were gifted to the city of Florence under the famous Patto di famiglia negotiated by Anna Maria Luisa, the last Medici heiress. The Uffizi is one of the first modern museums. The gallery had been open to visitors by request since the sixteenth century, and in 1765 it was officially opened to the public, formally becoming a museum in 1865.

Today, the Uffizi is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Florence and one of the most visited art museums in the world.

Dragonflies are important predators that eat mosquitoes, and other small insects like flies, bees, ants, wasps, and very rarely butterflies. They are usually found around marshes, lakes, ponds, streams, and wetlands because their larvae, known as "nymphs", are aquatic. Some 5680 different species of dragonflies are known in the world today

Though dragonflies are predators, they themselves are subject to predation by birds, lizards, frogs, spiders, fish, water bugs, and even other large dragonflies.

Not an important place in Harvard Square, but it's right across the street from the Loeb Drama Center (upper right), home of the American Repertory Theater. But back in the mid-60s, this was an important address to me. I knew a girl who lived upstairs rather well . . .

n what was probably the least enjoyable game to watch this season, for many reasons, the important fact was that Longridge prevailed and left Turton with all 3 points to return to the top of the West Lancashire League Premier Division.
