With a little green in between. This is on the dam that separates the eastern and western basins of the Ismaninger Speichersee, with the western basin visible to the left.
The Ismaninger Speichersee is a reservoir in the north of Munich, built in 1929 to regulate the water flow for the run-of-the-river power plants along the Isar Canal.
The reservoir and the adjacent fish ponds are a nature reserve (Europareservat) and an Important Bird Area (IBA).

I am lucky enough to be married to a human who lives to create and creates to live and so it is easy to meet other artists and find out about events like this, Enso at Elastic Arts, featuring our friend Billie Howard playing violin and the dancer (and one of our former neighbors) Ayako Kato. They did a great job with the soundscape, the Ikebana, the origami on set to create a very vivid sensory presence with an interpretive dance that was really special. Ayako Kato has some of her previous dances up on her website here:

Sorry about the previous confusing intro!!! :-( Tho I wish I could perform the magic editing imagined... it's beyond me.
Last winter (2019) there was an abundance of wild food and it was also a very mild winter.. so no birds needed feeding here. This year there is real winter... and to my amazement, after 20 months away, the silvereyes returned.. and remembered me. Well... they remembered peanut butter ;-) On their first day back some even nibbled it from my fingers. Now they come to meet me. The brave ones land on my hand to eat, the clever ones find the peanut butter jar in my other hand :-) On the first day one jumped repeatedly on my head but not at all since. Another landed on my lens barrel, looked me straight in the eye, and told me to get on to more important things :-)

Hoensbroek Castle or Gebrookhoes (Gebrook Castle) is one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. The oldest part of the castle, in particular the high round tower, dates from around 1360, when Herman Hoen rebuilt it. In 1225 there was already a precursor in this swamp (or broken), a so-called moth castle. In 1250 a fortified house was built on the site of the current castle. Due to its strategic location on the important trade routes to Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne, the castle was expanded in successive phases into the largest castle between Maas and Rhine. It contains 67 halls, rooms and spaces.
Kasteel Hoensbroek of Gebrookhoes (Kasteel Gebrook) is een van de grootste kastelen van Nederland. Het oudste gedeelte van het kasteel, met name de hoge ronde toren, dateert van rond 1360, toen Herman Hoen het verbouwde. Dragonflies are important in wetland ecosystems, vulnerable to wetland drainage, excess nutrients, pesticides and shoreline "cleaning." They eat a broad range of insects from mosquitoes to beetles to other dragonflies. Over 60 dragonflies are found in Central Florida. Some species do not venture far from the water where they breed, while others, such as the Wandering Glider, migrate long distances.
The four-spotted pennant dragonfly is found throughout the southern tier of the United States as far west as Arizona. It's also been spotted in New Jersey. In Florida, its found in most peninsular counties, including all of South Florida, and in a few panhandle counties as far west as Leon and Wakulla. Like other dragonflies, it likes to be around lakes and ponds, since that's where it spends the first part of its life, and that's where it reproduces. The scientific name of the four-spotted pennant is brachymesia gravida. Mature individuals have a dark, slender body, a large black spot between the nodus and stigma of each wing and white stigmas (the only dragonfly with white stigmas). Juveniles are mostly orange-brown with white spots on the side of the face.

Bird photography sounds peaceful. You picture me quietly communing with nature, sipping coffee while majestic creatures flutter by, posing politely like they’re in a Disney movie. That’s a lie. The truth involves hauling lawn chairs, tripods, and a camera bag that weighs more than a third grader across the desert before sunrise—all to sit motionless next to a glorified livestock trough filled with water I wouldn’t let my enemies drink.
This cattle tank, which I have gentrified into a “desert oasis” (by tossing in a stick), is now a fine-dining establishment for birds. The stick is important. I found it on the ground, which makes it natural, and I chose one with bark and lichen because birds don’t like muddy feet—and I like a pretty perch.
Birds don’t just fly in, though. First, they land about twenty-five feet away in what I call the staging area, where they scope things out and decide if it’s safe to drink. Just as I know birds come here for water, they know hawks come here for birds. If it seems risky, they vanish into the brush to post angry tweets about predator privilege.
This time, an American Robin decided to play along. He glided down to the branch, dipped his beak into the water, then raised his head to swallow—because robins, like most birds, can’t gulp. They rely on gravity to get the water down. No swallow muscles. No peristalsis. Just tip and pray.
As he tilted his head back, water spilled from his beak. I fired off a burst of photos. In this frame, he’s in perfect profile, water spilling from his bill, with a few droplets stopped in mid-air and a few reached the surface, sending delicate ripples across the pond.
His reflection was beautiful and haunting, like a bird pondering the mysteries of hydration—or maybe just wondering why some guy shoved a branch in his drinking fountain.
In the desert, water is liquid gold. To birds, cattle tanks are survival. To me, they’re proof that lugging heavy gear into the wilderness to photograph a robin mid-sip is a perfectly reasonable way to spend retirement.
Especially if you're trying to avoid housework.

The robin (Erithacus rubecula) is a species of bird in the flycatcher family (Muscicapidae). It inhabits North Africa, Europe and Asia Minor as well as the Mediterranean islands. Its diet consists mainly of insects, small spiders, worms and snails. Its song begins about an hour before sunrise and can be heard until dusk almost all year round. The species is currently considered to be endangered.
The robin was once again "Bird of the Year" in Germany in 2021 (after 1992).
Because of its often short flight distance, its appearance and its frequency, the robin is a special sympathetic bird. In the legends of Christ, it comforts Jesus at special moments and when he is dying. It is also associated with Christmas as the unofficial national bird of Britain. It played an important role in the discovery and scientific recognition of magnetic sense.

Important to know: Iguanas are capable of severely injuring people, other animals and themselves when their body language messages are not recognized. Most iguanas clearly sign that trouble is ahead. They nod their head and wave their dewlap side to side.
The dewlap is a fold of loose skin hanging from the neck or throat of an animal, like a cow. Iguanas use their dewlap to communicate. First, an extended dewlap can simply be a greeting. An extended dewlap is often used to say hello to another creature during mating and most generally as a territorial sign. Second, it can be a form of protection. A threatened iguana may extend its dewlap to intimidate a predator into thinking it is much larger than it is. Third, an extended dewlap may be a sign that the iguana is trying to adjust its temperature. An extended dewlap on an iguana basking in the sun is quite normal. It may be catching sun to warm up or catching a breeze to cool off. So it's important to consider "the big picture" when reading an Iguana's body language.
