The sign says: "The dogs are not for sale and should under no circumstances be fed"

"This means something. This is important." — If you're familiar with that famous movie line from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" then you'll remember Richard Dreyfus carving a vision of something out of mashed potatoes. The vision, of course, was Devils Tower. While this isn't a shot of a well-sculpted potato heap, it's definitely the real Devils Tower in Wyoming.

Devils Tower is an eroded laccolith in the Black Hills of Wyoming. A laccolith forms when molten magma forces its way into a rock formation, then cools and hardens. As the surrounding rock erodes away over time, the hardened former magma remains. The streaked surface of Devils Tower reflects the polygonal shaped fractures (columnar joints) that formed as magma contracted as it cooled and hardened. Devils Tower rises 1,267 feet above the nearby Belle Fourche River and according to the National Park Service, the summit is roughly the size of a football field. Photo credit: Alex Demas, USGS.

On strategically so important place towers Trentino’s largest fortress, referred to as Castel Beseno. First written documents date back to the 12th century, when the castle still belonged to the counts of Appiano and served as a residence to the aristocratic family Da Beseno. In the following years and centuries, the castle witnessed a rather turbulent history. In 1470 it was handed over to the counts Trapp, a noble family from Styria affiliated with the Austrian emperor. Soon the castle had to be rennovated due to a fire and the medieval castle turned into a residence. Threatened by decay, the castle was given to the Province of Trento, rennovated and made a remote seat of the Castello del Buonconsiglio Museum. Two mighty elliptical walls featuring a length of 250 and a width of 55 metres surround the castle. Worth seeing are also the dark castle gate, the drawbridge, the crenels and the arena.

You are at the edge of one of the most ecologically important places in Banff National Park.

Wetlands are scarce in the mountains. Water seems to be in a hurry to get somewhere else.

Glaciers deposited massive amounts of gravel, sand, and silt in this broad valley and its tributaries. In the 15,000 years since the glaciers retreated, annual flooding by the Bow River and its tributaries has carried much of the loose material into the relatively flat valley floor. Here, the river slows and as a result, its ability to carry sediments dwindles. Over time, the valley has filled with stream-borne sediments. Today, the Bow River meanders across a wide, well-watered floodplain atop those deposits.

These low elevation wetlands offer a longer growing season for plants and animals than valleys higher in elevation. Rich silt soils are more productive than the rockier soils on higher slopes.

Biological diversity and productivity, make these montane wetlands unique in the Rockies. Here you can see the boreal toads, Wilson's Warblers, beavers muskrats, and a variety of rare species.

Wildlife that travel widely depend on these wetlands for survival from the elk herds that winter here to the grizzly bears that sometimes fish for spawning while suckers in the Spring, to the migratory birds that arrive for the summer.

"It is not important whether you believe in spirituality or not, the four principles of spirituality apply to all from the moment one is born and will remain there till the end!

The Four principles of Spirituality are...

The First Principle states:

"Whomsoever you encounter is the right one"

This means that no one comes into our life by chance. Everyone who is around us, anyone with whom we interact, represents something, whether to teach us something or to help us improve a current situation.

The Second Principle states:

"Whatever happened is the only thing that could have happened"

Nothing, absolutely nothing of that which we experienced could have been any other way. Not even in the least important detail. There is no "If only I had done that differently, then it would have been different". No. What happened is the only thing that could have taken place and must have taken place for us to learn our lesson in order to move forward. Every single situation in life which we encounter is absolutely perfect, even when it defies our understanding and our ego.

The Third Principle states:

"Each moment in which something begins is the right moment"

Everything begins at exactly the right moment, neither earlier nor later. When we are ready for it, for that something new in our life, it is there, ready to begin.

The Fourth Principle states:

"What is over, is over"

It is that simple. When something in our life ends, it helps our evolution. That is why, enriched by the recent experience, it is better to let go and move on.

If these words strike a chord, it's because you meet the requirements and understand that not one single snowflake falls accidentally in the wrong place!

Be good to yourself.

Love with your whole being.

Always be happy

Love like there's no tomorrow.

And if tomorrow comes, well, Love again......"

The Master III meter finally bit the dust, glass fell in which is a common fault, so although nostalgia means it is retired with honour a replacement was due.

Step forward the advance that was the following model the IV which enjoyed only a short reign from 1960 until 1963 when the model V was introduced.

Why only the IV given decent examples of all the more modern models are common but the IV, due to the short run or perhaps to photographers like me that see it's advantages, less so?

The IV was a complete redesign, new casing smaller size, lighter but more importantly higher sensitivity (an extra stop at the low end) and with the needle lock. In this model an intuitive slider, replaced by a press action, far inferior in use IMHO, in all later models. A redesigned Invercone, marked IV as it will not fit earlier models, the V invercone is the same but marked IV and V, much confusion in poorly informed e-bay sellers, beware, I had to return a IV supplied with the "correct" cone, no it wasn't it was a Model III fit.

Now rather like early M3 Leica production there seems to have been much "tinkering" during the shortish run. There are certainly two calculator dials one, as in my Serial M example, that is "simplified" ie much clearer to read but with a silver "Setting" arrow and a more "traditional" one seen in at least the Y series more like a complex slide rule with a red arrow resembling the Series III. Some models have the ASA rating, yes Weston Ratings are gone, with a ratchet type click lock others seem not to but that could be wear perhaps, on others the slide lock button works in the opposite direction, all interesting but the light still gets measured.

This one tested accurate against my "standards".

A tip for buyers is to look for one sold with a tatty or well worn case, that means, hopefully, it has been stored protected from light most of its life which is what preserves the cell. The lock by the way is often instructed to be engaged when stored, the manual says the opposite of course !!

I am more than happy with my £10 expenditure with cases for both meter and invercone and the year 1960 matches one of my favourite M2 bodies, win, win.

For the curious the red blocks against 25th 50th 100th are speeds of 30th 60th and 125th for the cameras with those speeds.

Bicentennial Park is a 40-hectare of parkland located 16 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of City of Parramatta. Bicentennial Park is situated on the shores Homebush Bay and is a part of the Sydney Olympic Park in New South Wales, Australia. The Park is a natural heritage site featuring an important wetland ecosystem and parklands. It offers visitors recreation, nature-based tours, environmental education and outdoor event experiences. The park has picnic areas, playgrounds, pathways and cycle ways, access to the wetlands, salt marsh and bird hides. It also features Lake Belvedere, Peace Monument, Treillage Tower, Sundial, 'Cyrus the Great' statue, the Silent Hearts Memorial Garden and water features. Powells Creek runs through the eastern side of the park. The Homebush Bay wetland is occupied by animals that thrive in the salt water wetlands. Bicentennial Park was created by the state and federal governments during the 1980s, to celebrate Australia's Bicentenary in 1988. The project involved recycling 47.4 hectares of former rubbish dump into a regional recreation area and the conservation of 53 hectares of a wetland ecosystem on the Parramatta River. The park was officially opened on 1 January 1988. 52482

Buggerru is located on the west coast of Sardinia, characterized by small houses arranged in a fan, is located in the scenic sea mouth of a rugged valley, the Malfidano channel, which gave its name to the most important mining zona.La of his birth, in 1864 , it is linked to mining events of Sardinia ..

The early twentieth century, the population was five times that Buggerru starting twenty-first century; This is because in those years the town lived the most prosperous period of its mines. At that time the country was called "petite Paris" or "Little Paris" because the mining executives who had moved in the mining village with their families had recreated a certain cultural environment

Among these Georgiades Achille, a greek Constantinople arrived in Sardinia in 1903 to direct the mines of the Societe des Mines de Paris Malfidano. There was also the Frenchman Georges Perrier who ran a cinema; Also in the village there were also a theater and a club reserved for the elite of the French company executives. On the other side there were the miners who were working in inhuman conditions, underpaid and forced to exhausting shifts, often victims of fatal accidents at work.

On September 4, 1904, following the intensification of treatment imposed by Georgiades, the miners refused to work and made "the first general strike in Italy; The only answer Georgiades called the army that opened fire on the workers, killing three and injuring many more

This fact, even oggui, is remembered as: the "massacre of Buggerru".

---------------------------------------------------

Valløy or Vallø is a peninsula by the Oslo Fjord in Slagen in Tønsberg municipality in Vestfold. The peninsula is only about 1 km long and half a km wide, and is located at the entrance to the town of Tønsberg from the east. The peninsula is small, but has nevertheless been very important in national and local industrial history. Valløy was located in the former Sem municipality, which was merged with Tønsberg in 1988.

In 1739, Vallø saltworks was established. The plant was in operation until 1860 when it was closed down. Since then came several industrial companies, including Vallø glassworks, Vallø wallpaper factory and from 1899 Scandinavia's first oil refinery. The first master of distillation was the Austrian Frantz Drtina. After only a few years, this company had problems with profitability, and in 1905 a new company, A / S Vallø Oljeraffineri, was started.

In connection with the saltworks, Valløy church was built in 1782. During the Napoleonic Wars, Valløy was equipped in 1808 with a cannon battery and coastal protection to defend the entrance to Tønsberg town and the saltworks. In the 1820s, Valløy became the port of call for Norway's first steamship, the DS «Constitutionen».

On April 24, 1945, the refinery and the island were bombed by British planes in what is later known as the bombing of Vallø. At least 52 Norwegian civilians were killed and an unknown number of German soldiers lost their lives. The refinery, which was run by Esso Norway from 1905, did not come back into operation until the early 1950s. The wallpaper factory was also rebuilt. At most, more than 500 people lived on the peninsula, but after World War II, the number dropped radically.

Valløy school was in use from 1915 to 1942.

Until 1960, oil was refined using sulfuric acid. The waste product acid stream was deposited on the east side of Vallø and has been there until Esso Norge AS in 2015 started work on removing acid stream, bleach soil and other oil residues. [1] It is estimated that around 300,000 tonnes of contaminated mass will be removed by boat or truck. The work, which is carried out by Veidekke Entreprenør AS and the Belgian company Deme Environmental Contractors (DEC). The work was completed in March 2020.

To the uninformed, this might look like a Southern Ground Hornbill with a few frogs as prey. Well, that might be true, but this is not just another bird with just prey. The Southern Ground Hornbill is endangered, and the prey is food for the nestling! We came across three of them in the wild in the Kruger National Park, scanning the the veld for food, and then noticed that they do not eat the prey themselves. That is when we realised that this was "important freight"! We followed them for maybe 2 kilometres, and then the took off, crossed the road and we noticed them landing in a tree where the offloaded (dropped from above) the food to the mother that was in the nest with the nestling!

Two important conclusions from my recent ruminations:

1. I don't take enough happy pictures.

2. I need to start shooting self-portraits again.

I also have a huge roll of film that will be developed some time in the coming week. (:

An important corollary to Murphy's Law states: "When you want to photograph a railway subject, it will inevitably escape you; when you no longer care about it, it will appears everywhere."

That's the case of this GTS E191 leased to EVM.

During the winter time, I tried several time to meet one of them until I succeeded: flic.kr/p/2qLWcgr

The hunt was over.

Now, I'm trying to catch one of the first Beacon 193 entered in service in Italy and GTS E191s are everywhere!!!

In this case, "Galileo", the GTS E191.045, is leding a 2400t+ heavy freight directed to Fossano.

Brand-new 7193.808 is supporting the task.

Have a terrific labor day weekend my flickr friends.

I decided to stop making customs because Mr.Super Clear is no longer reliable.

A while ago Mr.Hobby changed the famous MSC from "FLAT" to "MATT" but they didn't only change the labeling, they also changed the formula.

All the dolls I made with the old MSC FLAT remains perfect even after 6 years but the dolls I made with the new MSC MATT starts to crack after a while.

This can take 3 months or a year but the cracks starts to appear. Sometimes they are evident and sometimes you have to watch carefully under a direct light to see them but they are or will be there.

This is happening to a lot of awesome custom artists in the Pullip, Blythe and Bjd communities (and more each day) so I decided to talk to Mr.Hobby about this and they have confirmed to me the obvious: They changed the formula and it can't be used the same as before.

I'm looking for alternatives and making tests to other sealers but this can take a while...

When I find a sealer that works for me I will start making new dolls and remaking the ones that cracked.

If anyone knows about good alternatives to MSC that works and last in plastic I'd appreciate the info.

I'd also like to take the opportunity to ask, especially customizers, that you get in touch with Mr.Hobby (you can change the language from japanese to english in their web and there is a form contact) about this. Personally I think it's a budgetary issue and they won't change it, but if they receive many complaints we may have a chance.

Finally I would like to thank my awesome customers and followers for their encouragement and support, specially now. THANK YOU!

Muchas muchas gracias!

The Bull Ring is a major commercial area of central Birmingham. It’s been an important feature of the city since the Middle Ages, when its market was first held. Masterplanned and designed by Benoy, the new Bullring Shopping Centre opened its doors in 2003, to huge crowds. Even today, the architecture is an eye catcher, with its 15,000 shiny aluminium discs, inspired by a Paco Rabanne sequinned dress.

Today is Earth Day, my favorite day of the year, and one of the most important. I've been reflecting deeply on the fact that the earth itself is a living, breathing entity. She exhales oxygen, and the ocean waves are her dance. When the light catches on hundreds of leaves glistening in the wind, or when the water sparkles at you—that's her saying hello. Maybe even showing off a little. She is beautiful beyond description and beyond the shortcomings of crude words. Without her, we are not. Her molten heart beats as one with ours. We are part of her.

And here I try to clumsily string together words to describe to you how important Earth is. How magnificent. And how we each must make efforts, every single day, to help her rather than hurt her. Every effort—whether you deem it large or small—makes a difference. Every effort we all make matters. But we all have to care. We have to care on a fundamental, innate level. As the Lorax said, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.”

I believe in the power of caring. I believe in the power of recognition. I believe we can change our ways and live less selfishly and more selflessly for the good of our breathtaking planet, and for the good of those who come after we have long left this place behind.

Thank you, Kristi, for being my beautiful muse in the chilly spring storm today to help me capture this image. A heart that glows as green as the earth. In unison with it.

DISCORD

"The Old Town Hall in Bamberg is one of the most important buildings that characterize the historic city center. It is located between the mountain and island towns in the left arm of the Regnitz. This location…

"...marks the old border between the episcopal mountain town and the bourgeois island town and clearly shows the Bamberg bourgeoisie's striving for power."

The landmark is built into the Regnitz River, with the Upper and Lower Bridges (originally a private bridge) leading away from it. Inside, the Ludwig porcelain collection belonging to the museums of the city of Bamberg is on display, one of the largest of its kind in Europe.

The town hall was first mentioned in 1387 and was rebuilt between 1461 and 1467 so that it took on its current appearance. During this construction phase it was mainly influenced by the Gothic period.

Johann Jakob Michael Küchenl redesigned the town hall between 1744 and 1756 in the Baroque and Rococo styles. Worth mentioning are the facade paintings originally created by Johann Anwander in 1755, which have been restored many times. After there was no longer much of this painting to be seen in the 1950s, the painter Anton Greiner repainted it between 1959 and 1962. Both sides of the building are fully decorated with recreated allegorical scenes and architectural details, the typical illusion painting of this period. Small, actually figurative elements on the eastern side reinforce the spatial impression. If you look closely, you can see a figurative leg of a putti protruding from the mural. This creates the illusion of a multi-perspective figure. The rococo balconies and coat of arms reliefs come from Jos. Bonaventura Mutschele.

The half-timbered house attached to the bridge tower, the Rottmeisterhäuschen, served as accommodation for the leaders of the guards.

The German Red Cross was founded on January 25, 1921 in the Rococo Hall. A memorial plaque in the passage of the old town hall commemorates its founding.

Bamberg (/ˈbæmbɜːrɡ/, US also /ˈbɑːmbɛərk/, German: [ˈbambɛʁk]; East Franconian: Bambärch) is a town in Upper Franconia district in Bavaria, Germany, on the river Regnitz close to its confluence with the river Main. Bamberg had 79,000 inhabitants in 2022. The town dates back to the 9th century, when its name was derived from the nearby Babenberch castle. Cited as one of Germany's most beautiful towns, with medieval streets and buildings, the old town of Bamberg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.

From the 10th century onwards, Bamberg became a key link with the Slav peoples, notably those of Poland and Pomerania. It experienced a period of great prosperity from the 12th century onwards, during which time it was briefly the centre of the Holy Roman Empire. Emperor Henry II was buried in the old town, alongside his wife Kunigunde. The town's architecture from this period strongly influenced that in Northern Germany and Hungary. From the middle of the 13th century onwards, the bishops were princes of the Empire and ruled Bamberg, overseeing the construction of monumental buildings. This growth was complemented by the obtaining of large portions of the estates of the Counts of Meran in 1248 and 1260 by the sea, partly through purchase and partly through the appropriation of extinguished fiefs.

Bamberg lost its independence in 1802, following the secularization of church lands, becoming part of Bavaria in 1803. The town was first connected to the German rail system in 1844, which has been an important part of its infrastructure ever since. After a communist uprising took control over Bavaria in the years following World War I, the state government fled to Bamberg and stayed there for almost two years before the Bavarian capital of Munich was retaken by Freikorps units (see Bavarian Soviet Republic). The first republican constitution of Bavaria was passed in Bamberg, becoming known as the Bamberger Verfassung (Bamberg Constitution).

Following the Second World War, Bamberg was an important base for the Bavarian, German, and then American military stationed at Warner Barracks, until closing in 2014.

Upper Franconia (German: Oberfranken) is a Regierungsbezirk (administrative [Regierungs] region [bezirk]) of the state of Bavaria, southern Germany. It forms part of the historically significant region of Franconia, the others being Middle Franconia and Lower Franconia, which are all now part of the German Federal State of Bayern (Bavaria).

With more than 200 independent breweries which brew approximately 1000 different types of beer, Upper Franconia has the world's highest brewery-density per capita. A special Franconian beer route (Fränkische Brauereistraße) runs through many popular breweries.

The administrative region borders on Thuringia (Thüringen) to the north, Lower Franconia (Unterfranken) to the west, Middle Franconia (Mittelfranken) to the south-west, and Upper Palatinate (Oberpfalz) to the south-east, Saxony (Sachsen) to the north-east and the Czech Republic to the east.

After the founding of the Kingdom of Bavaria the state was totally reorganized and, in 1808, divided into 15 administrative government regions (German: Regierungsbezirke (singular Regierungsbezirk)), in Bavaria called Kreise (singular: Kreis). They were created in the fashion of the French departements, quite even in size and population, and named after their main rivers.

In the following years, due to territorial changes (e. g. loss of Tyrol, addition of the Palatinate), the number of Kreise was reduced to 8. One of these was the Mainkreis (Main District). In 1837 king Ludwig I of Bavaria renamed the Kreise after historical territorial names and tribes of the area. This also involved some border changes or territorial swaps. Thus the name Mainkreis changed to Upper Franconia.

Next to the former episcopal residence city of Bamberg, the capital Bayreuth, the former residence city of Coburg and the classicist centre of Hof, as well as the towns of Lichtenfels, Kronach, Gößweinstein and Kulmbach, the Weißenstein Palace, Banz Abbey and the Basilica of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, the scenic attractions of the River Main and the low mountain ranges of the Fichtel Mountains with the town of Wunsiedel and the Franconian Forest belong among the region's major tourist attractions. There are also numerous spas like Bad Rodach, Bad Steben, Bad Staffelstein, Bad Berneck and Bad Alexandersbad." - info from Wikipedia.

Summer 2019 I did a solo cycling tour across Europe through 12 countries over the course of 3 months. I began my adventure in Edinburgh, Scotland and finished in Florence, Italy cycling 8,816 km. During my trip I took 47,000 photos.
