A bunch of us, Sean, Ailing, Weilan, Brian, Shiwen popped by EXPO to take a peek before heading off to 2am:dessetbar. We were running short on time and left within the hour. I am pretty sure all the guys didn't mind staying longer. Hehe.
Super Import Nights – The Ultimate Motorshow is notably the biggest and only tuner car show in Singapore that is returning for the third successive year. It has the characteristics of the Tokyo Autosalon as well as the virtues of Hot Import Nights (USA).
A closer look at the access corridor to and from the main airlock vestibule. there is another access corridor to the right (out of sight) that meets up at the vestibule facing the Shuttle lock ( to the left out of sight) that you later see Ripley fleeing the ship and where The Alien waits for her.
Care to guess where Texas longhorns came from originally? If one goes waaay back in history, both India and the Middle East were involved but in more recent times (relatively speaking), they were brought over from Portugal and the Canary Islands by the Spanish in the 1400's and 1500's, ultimately becoming a feral breed that underwent rapid natural selection in northern Mexico and portions of what would become Texas. Those that survived were hardy, disease and drought resistant, and ate a wider variety of forage on their rangelands, thus being less destructive than the later introductions of "improved" domestic cattle since they didn't simply choose a select few favorites of vegetation. Many of these cattle were driven west for the California gold rush and many more went north to the railroads in Kansas for shipment east following the Civil War to appease demands for beef. When tallow came into demand and open range began to disappear, these leaner cattle began to disappear, as well, but an effort by both the US government and private forces began to preserve these interesting bovines in the 1920's.
The two shown here are part of a very small demonstration herd of about ten longhorns that reside at Theodore Roosevelt National Park's North Unit in McKenzie County, North Dakota about 15 miles south of Watford City. They tend to hang out in the area between the park's entrance and the campground and I think I enjoy stopping to watch them just as much as the large herds of bison that populate the park. Longhorns such as these were quite likely a regular sight in historical times when the Long X trail wound it's way through the Little Missouri River breaks and when Theodore Roosevelt had his ranch operations nearby (I need to research what kind of cattle he maintained at some point...). L’importateur et marchand de dry goods (tissus, mercerie et autres produits) Andrew Macfarlane fait construire ce magasin-entrepôt en 1863-1864, sur un emplacement qu’il a acquis huit ans plus tôt avec une maison-magasin et un entrepôt. Voué au commerce et à l’entreposage, le nouvel immeuble est occupé jusqu’en 1868 par Andrew Marfarlane & Company, administrés par Andrew et Robert Macfarlane.
L’immeuble servira principalement au commerce et à l’entreposage jusqu’à nos jours sans subir de transformations majeures. Possédé par John Pratt et sa succession de 1869 à 1931, il est l’hôte jusqu’en 1918 des importateurs de thés John Duncan & Company. Il est ensuite brièvement occupé par un marchand de fourrures. L’entreprise Stanway & Hutchins Limited s’en porte acquéreur en 1931 et y établit son commerce en gros de thés et de cafés pendant vingt ans. Au début des années 1950, le bâtiment abrite six occupants différents desquels se démarquent les agents manufacturiers J.S. Parkes Limited. Cette firme achète en 1956 l’immeuble qu’elle occupe seule des années 1960 à 1975. Depuis lors et encore en 2005, Cenco Import Company Limited, importateur de jouets et d’accessoires décoratifs, en est le propriétaire-occupant.
