We celebrate light in our pictures. Understanding how light interacts with the camera is paramount to the work we do. The temperature, intensity and source of light can wield different photography effect on the same subject or scene; add ISO, aperture and speed, the camera, the lens type, focal length and filters…the combination is varied and multi-layered and if you know how to use them all, you will come to appreciate that all lights are useful, even those surrounded by a lot of darkness.
We are guided by three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, our longing to capture in print, that which is beautiful, the constant search for the one picture, and constant barrage of new equipment and style of photography. You’ll be amazed by the massive collection for viewing and learn more than you ever thought possible about Guthrie County - Iowa. We truly believe we are the hidden gem of Guthrie County.
The Village, located on a beautiful 4-acre complex on the southwest side of Panora, Iowa, features twelve buildings, numerous exhibits, and thousands of artifacts that explore the history of Guthrie County from 1850 to the early-20th Century.
The majority of our collection has been donated by families and friends in the surrounding communities. If you have not visited the museum recently, we encourage you to take time from your busy schedule to take a stroll through our lovely, little village. The museum is open May 1st to October 15th.

Unite For Correctly Implementing OBC Reservation In JNU And Resolving All The Existing Anomalies In JNU 2008 Admissions!! Oppose Attempts To Trivialise Both JNUSU And The Task Of Implementing OBC Reservations In JNU Through Irresponsible Flip-Flops!! .
In the past week SFI has engaged in an unmitigated, vitriolic campaign to vilify JNUSU. This campaign has culminated in a show of one-upmanship as the councillors from their organisation have unilaterally launched an indefinite hunger strike. SFI has its right to protest, but they do not have the right to concoct facts, spread rumours and belittle JNUSU on shamelessly self-contradictory grounds. After shouting themselves hoarse and blaming JNUSU Office bearers for a massive seat-cut, arguing that offer should be the basis of seat increase, they have suddenly taken the position that joining should be the basis! Let us examine the grounds on which they have erected this edifice of lies. .
Over the last week, SFI has gone overboard in framing its motivated story of an imaginary seat cut. Using incomparable and false data, they created a frenzy in campus, arguing there had been a massive seat cut. Secondly, they argued that instead of intake of 2006, the seats offered in 2007 should be taken as the basis of calculating seat increase and reservation. This is a point that they have repeated in every forum and platform of debate from the JNUSU Council meeting to posters and pamphlets. JNUSU Office-bearers patiently countered this campaign of vilification based on wrong numbers and legally untenable criterion, but to no avail. In the council meeting, the councillors from SFI gave no legal or logical provisions for implementing reservation, stating instead that they did not care about laws. They remained adamant on their illogical position on offer as the basis of computation and the existence of what they continue to peddle as massive seat cut. .
Now that SFI has launched an agitation, their arguments have assumed a whole new trajectory. In yesterdays pamphlet they have gone back on their position of computing reservation and seat increase on offer. In fact, they are totally silent about it! Now, their position is that reservation and seat increase should be computed on joining instead. By now, SFI has tied itself into the knots of its own argument; it has changed its position so often that it can have no credibility. .
For all the gymnastics its arguments have undergone, SFI is still peddling the bogey of an imagined seat cut. But now, by their own logic of taking joining of 2007 as the basis, there is a shortfall of 163 seats from last years offer. Will SFI answer: By their earlier definition is this shortfall of 163 seats NOT a seat cut? SFIs present change of position indicates that they could not sustain their arguments in the face of logic articulated by JNUSU. Either SFI accepts that they have been peddling a false logic only to vilify JNUSU, or they should accept that they are now also arguing for a seat cut! SFIs continual retraction and change of statements marks their criminal non-seriousness towards the issue of reservation. It also indicates how they hold the student community in such little esteem, believing that they can be confused and deflected by any smokescreen of fictitious numbers. In acting in this unilateral and irrational manner, SFI has worked to undermine the consistency, responsibility and seriousness of JNUSU as an institution only so as to achieve their own desperate strategies. .
JNUSU holds that the serious and socially sensitive issue like reservation cannot be trivialized in this manner. Nor can the intelligence and social sensitivity of the students of JNU be imposed upon in this manner. All along SFI has had nothing to say about the actual irregularities of the implementation of reservation. They have remained silent while JNUSU has been vigilantly fighting and correcting irregularities at every stage: be it the correct calculation of reserved seats, relaxation of marks for OBC students for viva qualification, additional lists for viva, correct implementation of reservation for PH students. Other visible problems remain in this years admission pertaining to non-fulfilment of seats in BA 1 inspite of the continuance of the offer method, no waiting list in Urdu MA reflecting unjustified evaluations by the centre, and defining the correct relaxation of marks for OBC candidates. It is urgent that these concrete issues must be resolved and not lost under any false debate. .
It is in this context that an emergency council meeting has been convened tonight (8.8.08) at 9.30 pm to evolve a comprehensive course of struggle on all persisting issues. We appeal to the student community to reject all false propaganda and rally with JNUSU for a genuine struggle for ensuring the actual challenging task of correctly implementing OBC reservation and seat increase in JNU. It is imperative that we maintain and strengthen the socially sensitive character of this campus and ensure that reservation is properly implemented and the provisions of social justice are upheld. .

Prosperidad Social entregó implementos para el montaje de unidades de producción de alimentos a 577 hogares participantes de Familias en su Tierra, en Sucre, este jueves. Con este programa la entidad atiende a hogares víctima del conflicto armado, que han sido retornados o reubicados: los apoya para lograr la estabilización socioeconómica.
Los participantes recibieron elementos para la implementación de huertas verticales y horizontales: bolsillos de fieltro, bandejas de germinación, sustrato, herramientas de jardinería, tanque para almacenamiento de agua, semillas, filtros para agua, manguera y polisombra, entre otros elementos. La entrega se realizó en los corregimientos Santiago Apóstol y La Ventura, del municipio San Benito Abad.
En Sucre hay 577 hogares beneficiarios del programa. Todos están en estos corregimientos de San Benito Abad. Cielo Rusinque, directora de Prosperidad Social, participó en la entrega de Santiago Apóstol. “Somos conscientes de que son muchas más las necesidades del corregimiento. Ustedes han sido víctimas de desplazamiento, han sido vulneradas en sus derechos y han vivido en carne propia la violencia que trae consigo un país en conflicto. Son prioridad en un gobierno que le apuesta a la Paz Total. Y la Paz Total empieza por la justicia social”, dijo.
Los elementos entregados corresponden a un kit para la implementación de una unidad de producción para autoconsumo (UPA). Con esto la entidad busca mejorar el acceso y el consumo de alimentos. Ofrece a las personas capacidades para el manejo de las huertas caseras y promueve hábitos alimentarios saludables. Las entregas responden a la disposición y condiciones del espacio, que la entidad verifica previamente en las visitas domiciliarias a los hogares.
Familias en su Tierra brinda actividades de formación, acompañamiento técnico e incentivos en especie y monetarios. Fortalece capacidades para la integración social y comunitaria y la seguridad alimentaria, mejora las condiciones de la vivienda y genera o fortalece proyectos productivos.
Sucre es uno de los departamentos que Prosperidad Social atiende actualmente con el programa. Hace parte de la zona 1 de la novena intervención de Familias en su Tierra. Los otros departamentos de la zona son Bolívar, Córdoba, Magdalena, Norte de Santander y Santander. Esta primera fase de entregas beneficiará a 11.770 hogares en los seis departamentos.

Sustainable Community Enterprise Development Project shall be implemented in Mombasa by Kuza SME's Support Group. Sustainable Community Enterprise Development (SuCED) Project shall empower three (3) Voluntary Young Enterprise Developers (YED) to be able to empower five (5) Emerging Entrepreneurs (EE) each with necessary knowledge and skills to be able to Sustainably Manage their Enterprises. This shall be through training, mentorship, skill transfer, link aging, and networking. At the end of the project we look at having assisted the EE to develop at least five (5) sound business plans and secure capitalization.
Our project addresses youth unemployment. We aspire at looking at the causes and working with the affected towards mitigating these issues through imparting them with requisite knowledge, skills and support to be able to venture in varied industries to become employers in their own right.
There is a growing number of young people who are being abused and are used as traffickers of narcotics and related drugs within our community because they are desperate, an equally bigger number are forming gangs and illegal groups that maim, steal and make our community unsafe and now we have a bigger of radicalization and recruitment into violent extremism due to unemployment among others. To overcome these we need this project.
Unemployment is an Mombasa. We followed media, searched reports and researches undertaken and coming face to face with young people venturing to social ills complaining on challenging times without employment.

e) Most important of all can this provision of 25% reserves seats solve the problem of the 19 crore children between the age of 6-14 in our country who need education? At present, around 4 crore children study in recognized private schools. If we allow for 25% reservation in these schools, then, assuming it is implemented faithfully, 1 crore children can avail of education what is to become of the remaining 18 crore? They will remain condemned to the sub-standard education as usual. Further, second-rate private schools mushrooming which currently charge around Rs. 100-150 will take advantage of the 25% reservation clause to avail of Government funds by hiking their fees to match the Government grant. In the name of educating poor children, private schools will claim and enjoy all sorts of subsidies and grants. This will mean public money flowing into private profiteers coffers. What an illuminating example of PPP or Public Private Partnership! .
f) What is stopping the Government from improving the quality and expanding number of government schools to ensure access for all students? Why, instead, is the Government hell-bent on sending poor kids to expensive private schools? Actually, the Governments agenda is to discredit and dismantle the huge network of government schooling, so that the market for private schools can flourish unchallenged. .
g) A fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution means that any citizen can approach the court for justice if such a right is violated. But according to the RTE Act just passed by Parliament, if any citizen wishes to go to court against any private school, then he or she must first take permission from the requisite government authority! The Act also states that if any authority violates any clause in the Act in good faith! What a crude and cruel joke in the name of fundamental right to education! Clearly, the state desires to lend itself to supporting and protecting the interests of the already powerful private schools than actually bringing in legislation to expand the domain of education. .
For the more than 77% of our population which subsists on less than 20 rupees a day, what else is this Act except a document of deceit and lies a Right to Education turned upside down? .

Making Std. X Board Exams Optional: Will it Relieve Students Stress? .
Will the move to make the Std. X exams optional reduce stress and pressure on children? Educational and exam reform are no doubt called for: the spectre of students committing suicide due to bad marks haunts us. But removing the board exams is like touching the tip of an iceberg and going no further. Even making these exams optional will lead to an increase in the divides in society: what will be the status of students from less fortunate backgrounds who by not doing this exam will be underrated by society? The stress caused by the board exams has a lot to do with the fact that opportunities for higher education and employment are so few and highly contested. So long as opportunities remain limited, and exams exist as a mode of elimination rather than evaluation, students will continue to feel stressed wondering whether they will make it to college or a good job. .

Foreign universities: Shining Shops for Education .
As the mess in the deemed universities becomes clear, the HRD ministry has an innovative solution: it is time to invite foreign players onto the scene. On the cards is the Foreign Educational Institutions (Regulation of Entry and Operations, Maintenance of Quality and Prevention of Commercialisation) Bill, first cleared by the cabinet in February 2007. It is said to be one of the first files Sibal requested upon assuming office. Sibal, shamefully, tried to exploit the assaults on Indian students in Australia to tout the entry of foreign universities in India. .
Who will foreign and private players cater to? .
As Sibal himself admits, only 160,000 students have the means or ability to go abroad and study each year. It follows that the large numbers of students who remain have to make do with an Indian education. Pandering to the upper middle class and elite constituency as if they alone have the right to education. Sibals moves do nothing to improve the quality of education for the many, but cater only to the select, privileged few. .

Will the best foreign universities come to India? .
It is a simple fact that any foreign university that sets itself up here, at such a distance, will come with the intention of making profit and gaining control over the market for higher education. Philip Altbach, director of the Center for International Higher Education at Boston College, USA, points out that foreign providers are usually not top universities, but are rather institutions at the middle or bottom of the hierarchy in their home countries. La capital de Córdoba recibe hoy el Encuentro Savia Ciudadanos: Saberes Ambientales e Innovación, un espacio diseñado desde la Escuela Nacional de Formación Ambiental Savia para reconocer, impulsar y fomentar iniciativas innovadoras que desde la educación ambiental aporten a la conservación de la biodiversidad en Colombia.
La apertura del encuentro será a las 10:00 a. m. con una muestra de cortometrajes ambientales producidos por jóvenes de Colombia desde su línea de Ambiente y Arte, seguido de un conversatorio en el que se compartirán tres experiencias de innovación territoriales en materia de educación ambiental e investigación, en el que destacarán temas de fauna silvestre, manejo y uso sostenible de la población de caimán aguja en la Bahía de Cispatá, la recuperación de Caño Bugre y la iniciativa de Colombia Aprende, del Ministerio de Educación Nacional.
Para la jornada de mañana 25 de marzo se contará con la participación especial del Instituto Amazónico de Investigaciones Científicas Sinchi, con la conferencia ‘Importancia de la investigación ambiental: una mirada desde la Amazonía colombiana’, que ofrecerá su directora, Luz Marina Mantilla.
El Encuentro Savia Ciudadanos contará con una muestra permanente durante los dos días de feria, 24 y 25 de marzo, de 15 experiencias de innovación de instituciones educativas del departamento de Córdoba y algunos negocios verdes impulsados desde el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible. Serán los jóvenes quienes compartan sus proyectos y cómo estos aportan a la solución de problemas ambientales.
Durante el encuentro se desarrollarán talleres de aprovechamiento y transformación de residuos y actividades para niños y niñas con la Torguta Torty que enseña sobre protección de las especies nativas.
Una necesidad: fortalecer la educación ambiental
“Si queremos ver transformación y acciones concretas que aporten a las ambiciosas metas y desafíos ambientales que tenemos como país, debemos trabajar, diseñar e implementar estrategias educativas que fortalezcan desde la formación de los niños y niñas, adolescentes y jóvenes, su conocimiento y amor por la biodiversidad. Por eso desde el Ministerio de Ambiente y Desarrollo Sostenible surgió la Escuela Nacional del Formación Ambiental, para dar alcance a esta necesidad que tenemos como país de fortalecer la educación ambiental en todos los sectores”, expresó María Lucía Franco Ensuncho, subdirectora de Educación y Participación del Minambiente.
Savia Ciudadanos es el espacio propicio para enfatizar en la importancia de integrar la pedagogía con la transformación ambiental, desde la mirada de los jóvenes estudiantes del departamento de Córdoba, y al mismo tiempo avanzar en el cumplimiento del plan de implementación del Pacto por la Educación Ambiental, derivado de la cumbre del Sistema Nacional Ambiental (SINA).
