Just finished assembling a HiViz.com sound trigger... had to photograph something; at 1:00am a cracker hitting a table seemed like a good idea. Strobist: SB800 @ 1/64 high to camera left. 1 SD80x @ 1/64 camera right. One flash triggered by the sound of the cracker hitting the table (with a slight delay) the other with built in optical slave. (According to one source on the net, A Nikon speedlight at 1/64 has a flash duration of about 1/32,000 second.)

This exciting development was discovered when I was reading the article in Sky & Telescope about the impact of a piece of space debris on the Moon during the Lunar Eclipse. When I examined my raw image data I saw the unmistakable flash point of the meteoroid impact on the surface of the moon. It was exactly where and when it should be.
The Canon 6D was capturing a two second exposure at this time. Very lucky!

After two weeks and wasting nearly $200 worth of shitty silicone, I've finally gotten a good mold for the glass dagger. Now to fuse the two halves like the one in the center and make the second mold half!
- www.kevin-palmer.com - Most of the waves weren't this big at Illinois Beach State Park. But every few minutes, a set of waves would hit this breakwall and splash 20 feet into the air.
Notice how the Agency 4 Building's marble is a yellow color, while the Legislative Office Building in a shinny white color. That's because the LOB has been steam cleaned, while the agency building is covered with 40 years of air pollution. andyarthur.org/photos/albany/impactofai.html

The surface of Comet 67P/Churyumove–Gerasimenko is almost devoid of recognisable impact craters, but this candidate may be an example formed by debris that was first ejected from the surface but subsequently fell back down. It measures about 35 m across and has been partially covered by dust. The image was acquired by the OSIRIS narrow-angle camera on 10 September 2014.

My Mommy always told me 'never touch the surface of the Sun' :)

Breakout Session: Scaling Impact Enterprises
Creating energy from landfills, connecting women-led coffee cooperatives with international buyers, verifying medications by mobile phone. The audacious ideas of social entrepreneurs can change the world, but critical barriers often inhibit these ideas from getting off the ground. While social entrepreneurs confront challenges typical for most entrepreneurs—such as access to capital, markets, and talent—by virtue of their business model they face added obstacles. Already expected to deliver on ambitious social and environmental returns in addition to financial returns, they also contend with greater institutional investor skepticism and appeasing a wider array of stakeholders. Social enterprises have nonetheless experienced significant growth, with traditional and impact investors committing more than $10 billion to these companies over the last four years—tripling their investments.
In this session, successful social entrepreneurs from around the world will share challenges from their work, as well as opportunities they see to achieve greater impact by scaling impact enterprises. Leaders from the private, public, and civil society sectors will also discuss how CGI members can:
• Design innovative approaches for impact enterprise talent recruitment, development, and retention.
• Define, measure, and communicate the social and environmental impact of social enterprises.
• Incorporate impact enterprises into their supply chains.
• Scale programs that support women and minority-owned enterprises.
