I finally was in the right place, half-hidden in a natural blind, when this beauty I had seen fishing all around the lake for at least two weeks decided to come land on the neighbor's diving board. I had a chance for about a dozen decent frames before she departed for another fishing spot on the shore. (I don't Know if it's a 'She' or not.. just an guess, since they look like the males, only slightly smaller.)

I hadn't noticed them in the area, 'til this year. Apparently they hang a little closer to the beaches. Though similar to cattle egrets, which Are common inland, these great egrets are larger and lankier.

Central heating, hot water and cooking for a year.

Yann, master of the slap bass from the Bonneville Barons.

I shot Yann against a neutral grey background and then it's all composited in with it's new background in Photoshop, layered and blended, with use of photo filters to give everything an overall balanced colour cast to help everything sit together.

These are the great bronze feet of the statue of the great John Singleton Copley that stands in Copley Square, Boston and my loveliest and most patient, uncomplaining model, Bonney. This is also a reworking of an old photo.

Kilroy's Pansies (see the note for where the strange little Kilroy guy seemed to show up). Everyone who really liked this picture liked it even more when I told them about the little Kilroy guy (or W.C. Fields or Winston Churchill), except my mother. She said in her imperious voice, "I'm sorry dear, but I wish you hadn't told me about him. You have ruined it for me!" Oh, well, I like a picture with a little tiny sort of hidden thing in it. This is a Polaroid Manipulation, alteration, impressionistic, or whatever you want to call it.

My first ever composite that doesn't have a human subject in it. Mind you, I think this tiger is a beautiful enough subject in his own right.

His journey is done. He is home, a place where he can live out his days in peace. I'm a sucker for a happy ending you know :)

Tiger is a CGI creation with lots of background elements cobbled together in photoshop to create his home in the forest.

95/365. I think this photo sums up Project 365 nicely. Everywhere I go and everything I see, I'm looking at it, wondering if it'll make a good photo.

121707 - ~This is a photo manipulated picture, created for a photoshop contest site~

For MacroMondays theme "Crisp"

This image was created from a photograph of a BC forest / park. I used the Gnu Image Manipulation Program aka: GIMP to create a kaleidoscope effect. I went a bit overkill on the color filter, especially the saturation tool. After 6 hours, I ended up with 8 kaleidoscoped variations but used only two of those layers. The center of this image was cut and pasted from one of those variations.

This took me hours, but its been a while since I've done a superimposed picture but I thought you guys deserved one. It took loads of attempts to get the tones and lights right.

I like it :) unfortunately some of my best art comes from when I'm not in a good place

thanx to tudorrose for the backdrop

Well, that's what Ralphie's father exclaimed upon receiving his lamp shaped like a woman's leg in the classic holiday movie, "A Christmas Story."

Eh.....what can I say.

When I first joined this site, I didn't care much for writing in-depth commentary to my photos. I wanted the images to stand on their own. Go take a look at the first dozen or so and you'll see what I mean. Then, for whatever reason, I started putting prose and poetry and my neurotic machinations out there for all the world to experience, and you fine Flickr folk began to take notice. Well, I suppose it was that and the 97 testimonials I've written! Anyway, I never expected to be praised for my ability to match image to word. It just seemed like a good idea. I often wonder if I'd be so "popular" here if I did just post a shot with a one-line caption, if I didn't spill my guts at times or put so much effort into making every upload "perfect." I don't know.

Well, I suppose an acceptance speech is in order.....it being an award and all.

I thank the Higher Powers for their inspiration, my parents for their tolerance and love, Jolene for her belief in my abilities and vision, and all of you here for your encouragement and support. I also want to thank the States of New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky for being such great subjects; my anxieties, fears, and depression for urging me to pick up the camera and be something more than what they make me; and to my 1988 Mazda 626 junker that started me off on the road (literally) to internet-based photosharing on Fotolog.net when I was "Drive By Shooting." A very special mention must also go out to Mrs. Joanne Puleo, my Commercial Art/Photography teacher in high school. You convinced me that the camera is really a conduit between the worlds of beauty and imagination.

And yes, I actually came up with this design myself. When I was made aware of the whole awards thing, I contacted a few of the Admins and suggested people get something tangible to show for the votes, instead of just a mention in a group. So, everyone that is a "winner" will get a personalized image like the one above to add to their very own photostream. Mind you, I'm not one for tooting my own horn, but what the hell. Every little triumph, no matter how small, is a good one. Honestly though, in my opinion, each person here deserves recognition in their own right. I am constantly amazed at the talent and passion and creativity that exists on this site. I sit in awe sometimes and shake my head. You people do indeed rock my socks.

Well, enjoy your weekend, kids. Play safe.

FACING THE MUSIC ON AUSTRALIA DAY WITH KEYBOARD KELLY...

Larrikin Outlaw Bush Arranger, Bruce "Keyboard" Kelly wearing D.I.Y armour (cut from laminated sheet metal music) and bearing his weapon of musical destruction, made a plucky last ditch effort to win his freedom from the Upthecreeka Stockade on Australia Day by correctly remembering the words of the National Anthem.

"Orstrayuns all let us ring Joyce,

For she has knobbly knees...."

er...

"Aussies all are refugees,

'cept ab-o-rig-ines..."

um...

"Ockers all like eating meese,

'Cos they are stuffed with cheese...."

Bugger it anyway, strewth some baaaaaastard crack a tinny!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Me in one of my suits of Kelly Gang armour. This particular suit was made from scavenged sheets of aluminum bulked out with composite board filling to make it look thicker.

I think Gail took the original piccy that I modified, but the background plate of flag and fence was one of mine.

Oh, and the picture of the keyboard I took seperately as well.

Do I need to explain who Ned Kelly was? Dingo's kidneys, just look him up on wikky, or check out my "RED KELLY" Photoset fer gawd's sake! I gotta bugger off to a barbie!

See yez round like a Lifesaver...

A cropped detail of the vintage 'flapper' style image modelled on the gangsters of the 20's and 30's.

My model Sarah-Jane is shot against a neutral grey background and composited into the scene.

All backgrounds are themselves composites of various elements to create a 'hopefully' dramatic theatrical quality. The background here was an old mansion near me that is open to the public.

Did this one for fun.

A strand of Virginia creeper crosses the arid sand seeking water and nourishment. Its stems become a crimson shriek of distress as opportunistic bugs attack its weakened leaves. Some shrivel and die. Desperately it produces a profusion of fruit, hoping that birds will carry its spawn to more hospitable climes where the species may flourish again. Nature red in tooth and claw, stem and frond; even a vine may have a savage tale to tell.

Consider the slime mold. For much of its life its individual cells move about the moist forest floor like amoebae, foraging for bacteria. They are such rugged individualists that even their chromosomes are single, not paired like yours or mine. When one of these lonely creatures meets just the right mate, and the conditions are just right—the gentle music of breezes in the treetops, soft dappled sunlight like candles on the forest floor, after a feast on a warm compost of leaf litter and organic decay—they will join together as one cell. Their chromosomes hug and begin to multiply, but their progeny never leave home. Soon millions of chromosome couples, each wrapped in its own nuclear membrane, all live with their parents in a shared a flat, a single giant cell, several inches across, that can look to the naked eye like dog vomit but can slowly move about like the Blob, devouring whatever lies beneath it. With such living arrangements, sooner or later stress is bound develop: all the food within reach is consumed, say, or the water begins to dry up. Word of impending disaster spreads among the nuclei like a rumor, and they spring into action. Some sacrifice their independence for the greater good, specializing and working together to erect from their very flesh great launching platforms with tall gantries. They pack warheads full of tiny cells with unpaired chromosomes, and launch them into space to seek another Eden, where single lonely haploid amoebae will emerge, forage, and then come together and colonize, starting the cycle anew.

Perhaps stress is the true mother of invention.
