This was part of an image manipulation project. I found this technique and applied it to an image I had previously taken. I like that this style of image could be used on things such as magazine covers, or even something like a CD cover.

Ok this was really my first realatively involved image manipulation. The steps to repeat are as follows:

1. Select the area you wish to work with using the magnetic lasso.

2. Copy/cut it and paste into a new image with transparency as the background colour.

3. With the image area still active select Filters->Artistic->Cartoon.

4. Set the options in the dialogue that appears (default should be fine) and click OK.

5. With the image area still active select Colors->Curves and set the (x, y) values to (0, 255).

6. Fill in the background with color and save (or save as JPG and transparency will default to white, if you want to maintain transparency save as PNG).
