In illo tempore había
un pueblo chico y alegre
donde nació un Niñito
que cada año nos hace
un regalo con su recuerdo,
y cada pueblecito
levanta siempre un belén
fruto de la alegría
que tal recuerdo nos trae.
Y hay pueblos que todo él
son belenes vivientes
que merece recordar
y no dejar en el olvido
que con la historia que guardan
siempre merece recordar.

----------------
Cape Miseno is the headland that marks the northwestern limit of the Gulf of Naples as well as the Bay of Pozzuoli in southern Italy. The cape is directly across from the island of Procida and is named for Misenus, a character in Virgil's Aeneid.
Mythologically, important sections of the Aeneid play out in the Gulf of Naples: Cape Miseno is the place where Aeneas' comrade, Misenus, master of the sea-horn, the conch-shell, made "the waves ring" with his music and challenged the sea-god Triton to musical battle. He was dashed into the sea and killed by "jealous Triton". Then:
“Pius Aeneas ingenti mole sepulcrum
imponit suaque arma uiro remumque tubamque
"Pious Aeneas sets up a mighty tomb above Misenus
bearing his arms, a trumpet, and an oar;
it stands beneath a lofty promontory,
now known as Cape Misenus after him:
it keeps a name that lasts through all the ages"
----------------
Quindi:
“Pius Aeneas ingenti mole sepulcrum
imponit suaque arma uiro remumque tubamque

The Plaza de Toros de Ronda, its history and its architecture, its character and beauty is recognized as one of the oldest in Spain and one of the most monumental in the world.
It is not by chance, Ronda is considered one of the cradles of modern bullfighting, born in the eighteenth century, in a city where the tradition of the cavalry was kept very much alive to be a corporation dedicated to the equestrian art is not lost. The needs of territorial defense did lay the foundations of Philip II in 1572 The Royal Cavalry of Ronda, so that the necessary management of horses is maintained. To do this body dedicated a space in the city for equestrian exercises, including, as is traditional in Spain since the Middle Ages games of skill with bulls were included.
When in the eighteenth century the bullfighters on foot take over from the Knights in games with the bull, the family of Romero, who for three generations, brings the most singular bullfighters of the time comes in Ronda. Among them, most important was Pedro Romero (1754-1839), figure summit and the most representative of bullfighting. He retired after estoquear more than 5000 bulls without receiving the slightest scratch. His personality reached his office got social dignity and respect, to muster courage, skill and aesthetic sense. The rise of bullfighting led the Royal Cavalry of Ronda to build its famous bullring, work attributed to Martin de Aldehuela, the same architect of the great New Bridge over the Tajo de Ronda.Construction of the plaza lasted six years and was inaugurated in 1785, with a bullfight in which acted Pedro Romero and Pepe Illo. Conceived in sandstone with a monumental scheme, the nobility of its architectural design, with its double gallery of arches and the absence of lying exposed, it gives a spirit over cloister enclosure for bullfighting, recalling the famous circular courtyard Palacio de Carlos V at the Alhambra in Granada. His roll of 66 meters in diameter is surrounded by an alley formed by two stone rings. The lines have five rows of bleachers, two stories, with 136 columns forming 68 arches of Tuscany columns, except for the Royal Box. Covered with gable roof of Moorish tiles, elegant interior is unmatched in any other bullring.
In the twentieth century, a second dynasty of Ronda bullfighters, the Ordóñez, is another contribution from Ronda to the history of bullfighting. Cayetano Ordóñez and his son Antonio Ordóñez achieved, because their way of thinking about bullfighting, the interest of such illustrious figures as Ernest Hemingway and Orson Wells.
It was just Antonio Ordóñez who in 1954 created the world famous run Goya, where adorns clothing and take us back to the time of the painter Goya.

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae,
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve!
ad te clamamus exsules filii Hevae,
ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia, ergo, advocata nostra, illos tuos

O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria.
Ora pro nobis sancta Dei Genetrix.
Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.
Oremus
I got asked to take part in a blog devoted to art inspired by Where the Wild Things are; so I came up with this little number. Today's Maurice Sendak's birthday-- happy birthday Maurice!
Head on over to www.terribleyelloweyes.com for more great and varied artwork.
Illo for an opinion piece that says Vegas doesn’t need a pro sports team or museum/performing arts center right now.

Curse my love of details, I s'pose. I really love how the giraffe, walrus, lion, and bear look so far. So much more to do. Really need to get the background crackin'...
All sizes as per usual.
Playing tonight, forcing myself to work fast and work limited palette. I worked in a totally different way than I usually do-- only inked certain parts of the drawing and then scanned/colored different layers (with an additional inked layer) All in all pretty fun!
Click all sizes to make purdier and all.
inspired loosely by an of montreal lyric, golden books, french illustrations, wind waker, and my strong strong desire to gather all my friends up (even the crocodiles) and live together or near by. ideally a treehouse, but hey i'm up for anything!
colors and elements may be tweaked a little but this is generally it! hopefully the cut off bits (the trees, stairs) don't look weird. i intentionally roughed up their edges and i kind of like it.
Now available for sale! Do check out my site/profile for details, yes?

Just a little illo for this week's Illustration Friday. Visit www.onnoknuvers.com for more work!
Starting a new personal series about ladies, fashion, home decor. This is the first! To be truthful, the blackish background was a total accident (trying to fill in the wrong layer!) but I kind of love it in a retro, Mary Blair-esque way. I need to explore black backgrounds more!
Thinking of submitting it to Tiny Showcase, but might use it instead as a thank-you print to give to art directors I've worked with. Be honest, what ought I do?
Looks best in all sizes.

Tambien Anthyllis lotoides
A vintage illo that I doctored up (just the title) for this entry at friskywife.com, which, sadly, only has one chapter of the series which ran in syndicated newspapers, years ago..
