Genesee River just above the Lower Falls at Letchworth State Park. And then he put the camera away.

Wednesday, July 13 I got back to the Letchworth State Park Lower Falls area, which was still closed off when I hiked trail 1 in early June. I drove through rain showers on my way there but had no rain after I started walking. It was still overcast at the beginning of my walk with beautiful subdued lighting at the beginning and bright sun later on.

A couple weeks ago at Charlotte Tavern for Tuesday Tunes with eldest offsproing. Lanse is in an Irish music group that has a session here on Tuesday evenings. He and his cohorts play beautiful music and I sip a Guinness. And take pictures of whatever catches my eye.

I find the Lower Falls in Letchworth State Park more fascinating - and more challenging - than the middle or upper falls. The challenge comes in finding a good vantage point to view and photograph them. This is from the top of the stairway leading from the large stone deck down to the footbridge across the rive.

Once again, I have photographed these falls from this spot multiple times with multiple cameras over the years. It's never quite the same as before.

A few days before Labor Day I walked down to the Irondequoit Bay outlet and out to the end of the west breakwater pier. We had high clouds and bright sun. I was in the mood for taking pictures.

Letchworth State Park. One of the overlooks along the trail as it descends to the Lower Falls area.

There is a pull-off at the head of the trail along the east rim and down to the Lower Falls footbridge. I followed the trail down to and across the footbridge, up and around the short loop on the west rim, then back down and up the car.

Mill Pond connects with the Thornapple River by means of a pair of channels. The pond water level rises and falls with the level of the river. The river path crosses the channels with footbridges with diagonal planking.

Looking up the next-to-last slope with my back to the very steep last slope I posted a photograph of a couple days ago. The sun was shining bright on the far side of the Genesee River gorge off to my left, but not here.

Those roots have many moods.

My intent was to take a reference photograph of the unofficial overlook below where I took the photographs of the falls. That didn't work so well so I changed the focus to the flowers in front of me. There's a gray spot in amongst them that I think might be said overlook, but one cannot be sure of such things.

After I finished at the footbridge I back up to the main deck then up another twenty feet or so to the path through the woods to the Lower Falls overlook. The main overlook is impressive, but it's still too high to get a good photograph of the falls. (The best place to see the entire falls is from up on the gorge path.)

There is another path, unofficial but well worn, to a lower overlook. It isn't treacherous by any means, but it still a place where a look down along the way will remind one to be careful.

Along the rim trail between the two Hogsback overlooks. It is about 500 feet down to the river. I was standing well back, not nearly as precariously as it would appear from the photograph.

Milady dropped me off at the dam overlook then drove down to Hogsback to read a book.
