If you have access to photograph important buildings and think that would be fine with this effect, do not hesitate to contact me.

We spent much of our time in Florence in orbit of the magnificent, Il Duomo. It is the single most impressive landmark I've ever seen.

Edit: Thanks for the Explore, everyone! This is now my most viewed & most favourited image!

Obviously not a whole lot different from my previous upload of Florence Cathedral but I prefer the warmer tones here. I took a few more variations of this shot as the sun set from the Piazzale Michelangelo but they pushed the shutter speed / focal length relationship a bit too far and the clarity starts to suffer.

From Wikipedia : "The Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore (English, "Basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower") is the main church of Florence, Italy. Il Duomo di Firenze, as it is ordinarily called, was begun in 1296 in the Gothic style to the design of Arnolfo di Cambio and completed structurally in 1436 with the dome engineered by Filippo Brunelleschi. The exterior of the basilica is faced with polychrome marble panels in various shades of green and pink bordered by white and has an elaborate 19th-century Gothic Revival façade by Emilio De Fabris.

The cathedral complex, located in Piazza del Duomo, includes the Baptistery and Giotto's Campanile. The three buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site covering the historic centre of Florence and are a major attraction to tourists visiting the region of Tuscany. The basilica is one of Italy's largest churches, and until development of new structural materials in the modern era, the dome was the largest in the world. It remains the largest brick dome ever constructed."

The cathedral is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Florence, whose archbishop is currently Giuseppe Betori.

Florence

This is such an incredible building that from street level its sheer size makes it difficult to capture from a pure architectural point of view as it is ring fenced by other buildings. Even a front on view of the church is difficult because of the close proximity of the Baptistery, which was in scaffolding forcing you even closer. This first shot is from the north side, which was yet to be cleaned, hence the dirty, dark image but I liked the fact I could get a horizontal shot along the street before the masses arrive.

The inlaid squares surrounding the stars of Siena's dome are actually not 3D ... they're painted this way.

A collection of stained glass windows from il Duomo, Milan.

Everything about the cathedral is stunningly impressive, but for me the beautiful windows are probably the most awesome feature.

Florence, Italy - March 23, 2018: Tourists gather on the cupola of Florence Cathedral at sunset.

An archive shot of Firenze, one of my favourite places in the world. I think that the Porta San Nicolo (the tower in the foreground) was one of the original gates in the wall of the old fortified city, dating back to the medieval wars with the neighbouring city-state of Siena. Wonderful landmarks beyond the torre include Il Bargello (prison), Il Duomo (the dome), Il Campanile (Giotto's wonderful bell-tower) and the beautiful church of Santa Croce.
