As part of our Wedding week in Finnish Lapland, we had a daytrip on tyhe Icebreaker Sampo, on the Baltic Sea out of Kemi
U.S. Coast Guard icebreaker, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) POLAR STAR (WAGB-10), made a port call at Lyttelton on its way to complete its seasonal operations in support of the National Science Foundation-managed U.S. Antarctic Program. Charge d'Affaires Susan Niblock was in Christchurch to welcome the U.S. Coastguard crew. "The last time the #PolarStar was in Christchurch, the U.S. Navy lent a hand with the Port Hills fires. While they're here this time, they'll assist the fire service in replanting some of the destroyed vegetation".
Day 1: First Day of Better World Curriculum and Terrapin Adventures
On the first day of the program, the Center for Sport, Peace, & Society introduced the 15 delegates to the program and its Strong Women. Better World. curriculum through a series of icebreakers and other activities. Afterward, Trina Bolton, a program officer in the Sports Diplomacy division of the U.S. Department of State, gave a presentation about sports diplomacy and its role in positively impacting communities around the globe. The day concluded with teambuilding exercises at Terrapin Adventures, an activity center and ropes course in Savage, Md.
