As part of our Wedding week in Finnish Lapland, we had a daytrip on tyhe Icebreaker Sampo, on the Baltic Sea out of Kemi
Not operating as an icebreaker anymore because it's too old and too small.
Nowadays it's a cruise ship.
The Swedish steam icebreaker SS St Erik, our home for two weeks, while we were working in the Vasa Museum in Stockholm. The St Erik was built on Finnboda Varv in 1915 as S/S Isbrytaren II for the city of Stockhom and was Sweden's first seagoing icebreaker. The ship is still in working condition with fully functional reciprocating steam engines. I got lucky with the light and thought B&W was most fitting for such a beautiful classic ship...

Laplander is a steam driven icebreaker, and is reputed to be one of the oldest surviving narrow boats in existence and dates back to the 1830s, seen here on the Birmingham Canal Navigations (BCN) new main line.
near the Upsala glacier... El Calafate, Argentina, our boat had just passed this large ice berg, when i heard a loud boom and cracking sound, the series follows... a spectacular moment!
