The iceberg at Antarctica is deep blue and beautiful.

Another Iceberg from the Iceberg Lagoon in Iceland.

The icebergs seem to be like snowflakes, large, small, old or new, they are no two alike.

Their colors run from crystal clear lumps, to a cold electric blue-green, to a shinny metal like dark teal. And then, there are those covered in or mingled with black ash to from almost jasper and agate like patterns.

But really without the sun or moon light shining on them, they are just plan old gray.

Pano created in Photoshop with three images, edited in Photoshop with many layers and adjustments, masks, and then into Nik's Viveza plugin for further adjustments.

Gloomy evening at Jökulsárlón Ice Lagoon but the soft light really helps to brings the striking turquoise colours out in the huge icebergs that float around in there.

A biggie. These bergs can reach over 10 feet high and 900 feet deep. You do not want to be in the way if this berg flips!

If you can't get enough of icebergs and glaciers see my photos from last years trip out to the Stewart Glacier in Alaska here:

Reviewing Greenland

Bråsvellbreen, Nordaustlandet (Svalbard), Norway.

Located at 79° 20' North on the island of Nordaustlandet in Svalbard, this huge glacier (seen in the background) has the longest ice cliff face in the northern hemisphere. It's glacier front is over 80 feet (24 meters) high and over 120 miles (193 km) long. It looks like The Wall from Game of Thrones.

This "little" iceberg in the foreground was just a small piece that broke off the glacier and was floating in the sea. Remember that 85% of this berg is under water and what you are seeing is just the 15% tip.

This lagoon is filled with icebergs that once belonged to the glacier Vattnajökull on Iceland. I think all on our tour joined the boat ride that is available at this site. This shot was taken on that boat ride with my IR camera. The clouds were very special here, and they were always thinner and lighter over the glacier.

7-30-11 Because of ice blocking tlhe Prince Christian Sound channel in southern Greenland the MS Massdam was unable to travel the 6 hour route Instead had to slowly travel thru a 30 mile wide ice field to return to open sea

This other-worldly scene looks like something out of a video game but it's real. In fact, it's almost straight out of the camera with very little processing.

We got to Jokulsarlon, finally, and the weather was terrible. In the couple of hours we were there, we saw violent wind, rain, hail, snow, and this eerie calm.
