The Flickr Lounge: The Five Senses

Sadly, we often see this while out dining. The only senses this group seem to be using is sight. They are turning off the world around them, not engaging in conversation, not enjoying the ambiance of this restaurant with canal views, seemingly not enjoying themselves but being totally engrossed in their phones.

Whispy clouds highlight an amazing sky.

Thanks Explore (#154). Position (#178)

Why is the top lenticular cloud showing iridescence while the bottom one does not? The answer is that the top cloud is at a higher altitude where ice crystals dominate (old.atoptics.co.uk/droplets/irid1.htm) while the bottom has minimal crystals. Immediately next to the sun, a partial corona is formed: old.atoptics.co.uk/droplets/corona.htm.

Picture of the Day x 3

I think this is the third photo I've posted this year of the full-size farm diorama atop the Bayside Milk Farm, a local grocery store.

But why isn't Santa wearing a mask? All the animals are.

Sunset over Taurito, Gran Canaria

Taken during the Covid-19 crisis, a very quiet River Thames normally full of tourist and passenger boats! The London Eye hasn't moved for weeks. It's certainly an interesting time to just walk round London (of course respecting social distancing!) and take photos of things that have a different perspective during these challenging times.

ENG: Fort Hahneberg, located on the western edge of Berlin (Spandau-Staaken), is considered one of the last Prussian-style fortifications in Germany. It was completed in 1888 after six years of construction and since the late 1990s can now be visited again partially restored. The visit is only possible with a guided tour, as the site is maintained and restored by an association. The price for the historical guided tour is relatively low per adult, however, for 7.50€ you get a lot offered in the approximately 90 minutes.

After its completion, the facility served until 1945, among other things, as barracks and central archive for military medicine, so it was mainly used for military purposes. During the Buchrucker Putsch on October 1, 1923, the fort, together with the Spandau Citadel, was briefly occupied by putschists who had to surrender to regular Reichswehr units. After the end of World War II, parts of the walls and structures built of bricks were broken out and taken away as building material for the reconstruction of Berlin. Until the fall of the Wall in 1989, the fort was located unused in the area of the barrier installations in the former East Berlin of the border crossing point Heerstrasse and has only been accessible to the public again since 1990 and was handed over to the association Arbeits- und Schutzgemeinschaft Fort Hahneberg e. V. in 1993.

Thankfully this was less crowded with visitors than House on Fire.

K2 & Kennedy In Attentive Resting Son Of A Bitch Face Formation In Hotel Room - IMRAN™

You've heard of the humorous "Resting Bitch Face" many beautiful women use with their photos with a certain expression. In this case it is two literally sons of bitches, K2 and Kennedy, resting but attentive in dog/wing-dog formation on the hotel carpet the first night they met. Note the identical stances to go with the matching looks.

Our Daily Challenge:

Worn or Weathered

Miss Maggie would carry this bone around the house and out in the backyard. It was a daily routine to pick up the bone aimlessly searching for a place to hide it. Often crying was involved until she found the perfect place to hide it. We haven’t seen it in a long time! We figured that it ended up in the backyard, and our gardener must have inadvertently thrown it away with yard waste. Over the weekend we purchased several trees, and today Tom was digging in the area where they will go once delivered. You guessed it! He found the bone.

Kennedy & K2 Chilling Midinight Friday After First Hour Together - IMRAN™

Even though K2's parents are the same size as Kennedy, even though Kennedy is the most gentle creature, and even though K2 is a most rambunctious character, it had been funny when K2 had run and hidden under the car when he first saw Kennedy. The first photo I shared was about 10 minutes after they had met. You could see more of his personality and curiosity coming out. Then I walked the two of them together for about 20 minutes on the hotel grounds. Even though it was nearly midnight Friday night, and both dogs already had a 4 hours drive, K2 was completely at home with Kennedy within an hour of knowing him.

Digital art created from my image. It was taken in Temecula and was our view from our room at the Ponte Winery. I first tweaked my image in Lightroom, brought it into Photoshop and Camera Raw for additional tweaking. I then selected a portion of the total image and played with different prompts in Generative Fill and found two that I liked. One was very graphic and one very painterly. I combined them together with my image using blending modes and adjusting the opacity to my liking. I really like what I ended up with. More fun to follow.

Our Daily Challenge:Beneficial Moments

I walked by this Buddha by my front door and noticed the beautiful light on the Buddha. I took this quick shot. A minute later I returned to re-take the image as I wanted to remove the Halloween decorations in the shadows, but the moment had passed. The beautiful magical light was gone.

It took me a long time to settle on the photo for this day. I must have taken 50-60 shots of my three-year-old grandson while playing with him in the yard for two hours, but he's a hard one to catch because he's in constant movement. I won't go into why I rejected each of the others, but I like that he's smiling and engaging here, even if he's a little blurry. I think it captures the sense of movement and the joy of swinging through the air. One photo a day. (242/366) September 29, 2020

I shot this image with my iPhone! Any other time that I have tried to get a hummer image with the iPhone, I have gotten blurry wings, but not today. I can't believe it!

Sleepy Market Square Pittsburgh At Midnight (Panorama) - IMRAN™

The longest time I have spent in Pittsburgh. Pennsylvania, was a nearly 4 days business trip, with 3 long full days of meetings. On the second night there, after dinner, I explored the area a little further away from the Westin I was staying at. I came upon Market Square, which was pretty quiet and deserted at midnight. I took three iPhone photos and these were stitched into a panorama. There was a huge dumpster to the right and some ugly vehicles to the left, which I had to erase out of the photo. I did a quick and dirty job of filling up that space with more of the cobblestones. You can easily see the artifacts of that. However, I still feel it made the photo more interesting a depiction of the area.

Soaring Pelicans Seaside Pretty Sunset Past Saint Petersberg - IMRAN™

I was on the dock of my blessed home on Tampa Bay, Florida, when I saw these pelicans soaring past my home. A sunset was taking shape behind Saint Petersberg in the distance across the water.

Looking overhead, this wide angle image captures the edge of the high noontime sun as it highlighted this delicately structured cloud. I think of cirrocumulus as the finger print cloud.

One of the most calming and relaxing things to do.....build a set of LEGO. This set goes along with The Simpsons house Lindsey already has. She had great fun seeing this one come together as she put it together.

I planted this foxglove years ago but it only comes up every other year or so. It gets choked out by weeds I guess. I’m lazy.

Happy Perfect Purple Saturday!

Although this cloud was migrating slowly east away from me, its structure, height and orientation was supported by strong rotary winds off the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.

Doggie / Bed / GSD / 3D - IMRAN™

Even though I have had a dog since I was a kid, I had never stayed at a hotel with a dog. Kennedy, my beautiful German Shepherd, was rescued in Texas, and brought to Tennessee in a ride with a trucker, from where I brought him home to Florida after a 10+ hours drive. We had made stops along the way, but not stayed at a hotel. So, as far as I know, he had not stayed at a hotel before either. So, this was a first for both of us. We checked into a nearly new hotel on the roadside in Georgia for the Friday night. Kennedy immediately made himself at home, thankfully as a Doggie at the foot of the Bed as a GSD in 3D. I think he was showing off that his drapes do match the carpet!

These altocumulus lenticular clouds can sometimes encompass the entire sky. Strong surface winds are a by-product of the jet stream overhead transferring turbulence to the surface.

An oil painting by my mother, Veronica Clarke. Taken less than an hour before midnight, because I didn't have any other photos for this day. One photo a day. (208/366) -- July 26, 2020

Early fire sky taken 23 minutes before sunrise on 17 Dec.

Blustry day, Interstate 15 east of Victorville, CA. Really worrisome clouds brewing directly overhead.

2nd day with strong winds helped to create this stretched out lenticular cloud with turbulent waves at its base. Looking northeast at ~1:30PM. Surface winds were 35mph with gusts to 50mph.
