A rather lovely one at The Garden House in Devon.

Hydrangea flowers

When I come back from the Continent, I always visit a flower market, to bring back some beauties.

In England, I am sorry to say, the markets (that I go to) could take a lesson! Their flowers here are often too far gone, not a great choice, nothing very exciting? Anyway, bought these, two massive Hydrangea heads. They suffered in transport, so, I filled the bath with cold water and submerged them for 8 hours. they absorb water through their petals and leaves, and hey-ho, they fully recovered!

Hydrangea, the name, comes from the Greek words "hydro" or water, and "angeion," or vase = water vase, they prefer a lot of water.

A very ancient plant, found in fossils going back thousands of years.

In most species the flowers are white, but in some species (notably H. macrophylla), they are blue, red, pink, light purple, or dark purple.

I wish you all the very best and thanx for all your kind words, time, comments, likes and faves. Very much appreciated.

At almost 4 Inches high, Hydrangea has been made with loving detail, using a wide variety of materials: her face, bust and hands are made of resin plaster and colored with acrylic paint, her hair is made of wool roving, lightly needle felted to maintain its shape. The upper part of her dress is made of a variety of fabrics and hand tailored to fit her tiny bust and arms. The lower part of her dress is a felt 'softie' filled with polyester fiber. The hydrangeas are made of polymer clay.

Hit L to see me big & beautiful

I would be happy to have a yard full of hydrangeas!!

The driveway of the cottage that we stayed in at Lucas Pond in Northwood, NH was lined with hydrangea bushes in full blossom. The blush of pink fading to white was so beautiful. Press "L" for a better view.

Hydrangea, common names hydrangea or hortensia is a genus of 70–75 species of flowering plants native to Asia and the Americas. It belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family. ‘Hydrangea’ is derived from Greek and means ‘water vessel’, which is in reference to the shape of its seed capsules. By far the greatest species diversity is in eastern Asia, notably Korea, China, and Japan. Most are shrubs 1 to 3 meters tall, but some are small trees, and others reaching up to 30 m by climbing up trees. They can be either deciduous or evergreen, though the widely cultivated temperate species are all deciduous. Flowers are produced from early spring to late autumn; they grow in flowerheads most often at the ends of the stems. 13482

Hydrangea in the undergrowth picked out by the midday sun.

The hydrangeas in my yard are turning from blue to green but only the ones in the shade. The blooms that get full sun are faded with scorched edges. I picked a giant bouquet of the greenish hued ones to enjoy and photograph in my kitchen.
