I'm still looking through some photos from a trip to London in the middle of the year, but I thought I'd upload this one next as something a bit different. One of the great things about getting the train back from London is getting to spend some time in Kings Cross.

"I was raised to hustle like a man because I was told to never depend on one."

"Let them sleep while you grind, let them party while you work, the difference will show."

"Hustle until you no longer have to introduce yourself"

My personal favorite*

While you were debating if the glass was empty or full .... I sold it!! # HUSTLE

Capturing the hustle and bustle of the Istanbul Grand Bazar by using a long exposure. Shortly after setting up our tripods (only two) we saw lots of commotion from some of the locals, and sure enough, the local police came by and asked us where our permits were for shooting. Obviously having none, and pleading a little bit that we weren't professionals (that's what they thought we were), to no avail. Needless to say, we put our tripods away, and moved to another location.

Awaiting the right away and stacking up the delay minutes considerably, BR Standard 5, 73156, simmers away at Loughborough Central while passengers and staff rush about on the platform

The '5' was working the 2C44 1700 Loughborough - Quorn & Woodhouse service (then formed 3C44 to Rothley Brook to collect 3F 47406 and trip it back to Loughborough on the 1727 from Rothley)

Lloyd Center, the biggest mall in Portland, has fell on some hard times. Over the last decade, I occasionally walk through this mall only to be greeted with hundreds of empty store fronts and a few holdover shops that are clinging to life.

Recently though, that's changed. The high availability pushed the cost of rent down enough that now the mall is partially full of small independent local shops, giving the mall a feel closer to a bazaar than a traditional American mall. Things like local comics to a free museum about the regions history. On this visit, there was some kind of trading card event going on that spanned the entire lower floor and drew hundreds of people.

It's nice to see local businesses reclaim such a local icon.

In the hustle and bustle of life, I've been doing so many projects for everyone else, that I forgot to do something for myself. The best thing to do is end the year remembering one of the reasons I love photography so much! Thanks Sue for the great company and reminding me to take time out for myself.

For Freight Car Friday here's a look at the single stack intermodal cars on Berkshire and Eastern Railroad train B100 hustling out of the darkness at the east portal of the 4.75 mile long Hoosac Tunnel at MP 415.7 on the former Pan Am Freight Main, the once Boston and Maine Fitchburg Division. Berkshire and Eastern is a Genesee and Wyoming owned company that is newly created to serve as a neutral third party operator of the Pan Am Southern property as a result of the sale of Pan Am Railways to CSX.

Train B100 is the symbol B&E uses for the continuation to Ayer of Norfolk Southern eastbound 264 (intermodal 63rd Street Yard in Chicago to Mechanicville) that used to be known as 22K. The train is led by the standard SD60E which is necessary due to it being one of a small fleet of this model equipped with ACSES required for operation on MBTA property east of Westminster. The days are growing short for photographing intermodal here because another condition of the sale was the granting of trackage rights to NS for operation of one daily pair of premium trains (this one and its westbound counterpart) over CSXT's former Boston and Albany route. These trains will then take the old Delaware and Hudson Albany main to Voorheesville, NY and utilize the connection on to Selkirk Branch which has been rebuilt there. From there they will travel east via Selkirk Yard, the Castelton Bridge and the Berkshire and Boston Subs to Worcester and on up to Ayer. Allegedly that routing will commence in March, so if you want shots of 'the pig train' on the old Boston and Maine the time is now!

Look Book II shoot with the Deam Hustle Loungewear Long Sleeve Tee

The worlds most famous SD45 sits at Palmer MN on the North Shore Scenic during an ill-fated storage car move on Tuesday. A 3 man crew took the 400 lite from Duluth to Palmers to pull the stored hoppers destined for interchange with BN at Rice's Point in Duluth. Upon arrival (or shortly thereafter) at Palmers the crew was told BN couldn't take the cars because CN still had not gotten the Duluth-Superior transfer detour reroute out of town which had been tied down on the lead leading to the museum's trackage. The crew returned lite to Duluth after the passing of DMIR 193 North and accomplished the mission the next day.

New Hope & Ivyland Railroad 40 hustles across the West Mechanic Street Bridge on a lovely spring afternoon.

An LIRR diesel set shoves into Hunterspoint Avenue as a 7 train soars above. During peak hours, this area can get quite busy.

70015 creates its own emissions as it passes through Hemington working the 6G65 0919 Hope - Walsall cement .

Haven't seen L277 before, so thought I'd go take a look incase the weather came good, unfortunately it didn't but grabbed a few shots anyway.

BRM001, CLP12, RL301, 4904 and L277 depart Newcastle with grain train 4543N to Narrabri.

Here is the third spot in quick succession here in Huntington where we again see CSXT train G104 (empty grain train from Ayer to BNSF in Cicero, IL) with a cut of mixed freight for Selkirk picked up in Worcester on the head end of the 100 empty BNSF system covered hoppers. A pair of CSXT Gevos bracket a pair of BNSF C44-9Ws 5441 and 5170 curling west alongside US Route 20 right MP B121 on modern day CSXT's Berkshire Subdivision mainline.

The Western Railroad of Massachusetts opened this segment of railroad for business in 1841, and pushing two centuries later the route not only survives but reigns supreme as the busiest and only Class 1 trunk line into New England. The Boston and Albany Railroad was formed in 1870 when the companies to the east and west were merged into one railroad linking its two namesake cities. Despite being leased by the New York Central in 1900 the B&A name survived for another half century. The NYC itself would become the Penn Central in 1968 and the line would pass to Conrail in 1976 and become the property of its current owner, CSXT, in 1999.

This spot looks even more spectacular in the fall. Here's one of my favorites from standing in this same spot last fall but looking the opposite direction if you missed it: flic.kr/p/2ogfrpy

. . and bustle.

If you can take a mo', please look large.

Now that I'm carrying the new cam around, I see photo ops everywhere. This is one scene I just had to grab.

By the way, some people have told me that my yesterday's post did not appear in their "my contacts". Maybe Flickr's having problems, and if it happened to you, please take a peek.

This shot was taken for the Kamakacci hustle hard campaign. This was shot bluescreen and superimposed into a factory scene.

With the last rays of sun shining down, Canadian Pacific's train 289 hustles through Reeseville with a trio of Soo Lines finest leading the way.

Huscle Muscle brings up one end of an Operation Lifesaver train running through Superior's north end and past the Soo Line depot (now the Thirsty Pagan Brew pub).

California (Hustle and Flow) Social Distortion.

Something a little different for me. I met this guy at the hotel where I do some of the in-house shooting for their bands on a Friday & Saturday night. This guy is a semi-regular who likes to come in and shoot a little eight-ball. I love his "character" look, and asked him if he minded me taking a shot or two. He was very obliging, and I must admit to being very chuffed with the results.

"Hustle Muscle" and Metro transit trainset at SPUD for the "Rail-Volution" conference.

Well technically they are rotary dump gondolas including a mineral brown Conrail one befitting the heritage of this route. This is train Y90 (export coal loads from Shire Oaks to Consol Terminal Baltimore) curling through Williams Tunnel and beneath the abandoned catenary pole at about MP 15.9 on Norfolk Southern's ex CR, PC, PRR Port Road Branch.

The Iowa Pacific E's hustle toward Union Station after the CRSA trip. Shot at 18th street in Chicago.

Forty years ago I was a student rushing back and forth to class and my part time jobs in the Back Bay. Today, I don't see this much activity looking out the window where I live in a month. Times change.
