Amtrak 2221 hustles south through Elizabeth, NJ, as seen from the parking garage that overlooks the Northeast Corridor there.
Hard to believe that this was over a decade ago now...my wife and I were on the way back from a trip to Amish Country, and stopped here to take NJT into New York for lunch. Equally hard to believe these Acela Express trainsets have now been plying the Corridor for a quarter-century!
Yes, it was raining in Osceola, Wis, this morning, but by the time our GN photo charter reached the bridge over the St. Croix River, all was perfect. I'll be honest (as the guy who organized this event): if you weren't there you blew it!

I come here just about every year & the setting sun never lets me down.
You wouldn't believe it but directly behind me was the hustle & bustle of Blackpool.
A vibrant busy seaside resort with lots going on yet so few head down to the beach to witness this spectacle.
A busy shot in London’s Chinatown, not my usual style, but I love her green dress and hand gesture towards the overhead lanterns…
In the mid afternoon, Q301 charges west with three GE's and a healthy consist of cars. They're next stop will be at Woodbourne.
Shortly after this I was accused of using the camera as a distraction technique. She won anyway, so it didn't do me much good.
She's generally pretty patient though, so in a spirit of compromise I put the camera away :o)
This is not straight out of camera, although it may look it. The table surface was much softer and warmer in the original, I have increased the contrast and sharpness of the focussed area in order to bring out the texture. The rest is pretty much untouched.
This is taken with the Minolta 50mm f1.7 lens, hence the fact that a) I could get away with no flash in a dingy pool bar and b) the incredibly tight DOF.

One of the new Charger engines hustles a Hiawatha service train northbound at Pleasant Prairie on a beautiful day. LOL!
Day 2 of the festivities in the south Florida canelands finds US Sugar Corporation's recently restored 4-6-2 Pacific number 148 at the head of the eight car AAPRCO 'Sugarland Limited' special (plus SCFE's baggage car) operating on rails now belonging to modern day shortline South Central Florida Express.
This day's excursion saw the passenger special run from Clewiston to the runaround at Marcy just south (compass west) of the CSXT Auburndale Sub diamond before running around and being towed back by a diesel that had been staged there. After clearing Sugar Junction they got up to track speed and are seen making close to 40 mph as they sail over a small canal just north of the Evercane Road crossing at MP 951.8 (historic ACL mileage measured from Richmond) on the SCFE's mainline. Alas I and the other photographers got a little cloud dinked at the last moment here, but fortunately on Day 3 I'd get a chance at redemption here since this short stretch of the mainline was retraced on their way to Keela Junction enroute to the rare mileage Okeelanta Branch trip on Monday.
Clean burning (it's fired with used restaurant vegetable oil and this is one of the few times I saw it really smoke s) 148 was built for the Florida East Coast Railway in 1920 at Alco's Richmond Works and served for the FEC for 32 years including operating over the famed 'Overseas Railroad' to Key West until that line was wiped out by the 1935 hurricane.
From 1952 to 1968, 148 was owned by US Sugar for use on their private cane hauling railroad. Later used in excursion service on the Black River and Western and Morristown and Erie Railroads it then languished with different owners for decades until being repatriated to Clewiston and restored over a four year period.

The American crew on board Canadian Pacific train 250 (Montreal St. Luc Yard to Brownville Junction, ME manifest) is kicking up the powder as they hustle east out of Jackman heading home on the Moosehead Sub. Thanks to CP's aggressive upgrades this fall the west end of the line is already up to 40 MPH and much brush has been cleared opening up great scenes such as this s-curve beside Long Pond just east of the little Drop In Lane crossing at MP 65.7.
Providing the sole power was a pair of SD40-2F Barns CMQ 9017 and 9020 (GMDD London, ON blt. Nov. 1988 for CP with the same numbers). The 9017 received this Bangor and Aroostook heritage scheme in 2016 at the historic former BAR Derby shops to honor one of CMQ's component roads.

UP 8009 East hustles the morning Z at MP 24.5 on the UP Kansas Sub while a coal bucket waits back at Pump House for the chance to roll east.
In the New Forest at Bolton's Bench there is a horse trough donated by residents in 1902. Whilst I was there the other day, this group of Shetland Ponies suddenly decided to charge towards it, quite a sight but maybe dangerous if small children were stood in their way. My grandchild liked the 'spotty' horse, thought he/she must have chicken pox!

After being on display at the St. Paul Union Depot for National Train Day, Great Northern Railway Historical Society's SD45 No. 400 is passing Maple Island, Minn. on CN ex-Soo/WC track en route to tourist train duties at Osceola, Wis. The Minnesota Transportation Museum will use the engine to pull trains on its Osceola & St. Croix Valley operation this season.

Due to the tractor trailer strike just a mile south of here on Thursday, February 23rd, the damaged power from Thursday’s I157 rests in Haverstraw Yard on the right, while I008 holds for Saturday’s I157 to clear the interlocking.
ROG/Euro Phoenix 37 608 'Andromeda' hustles across the River Stour to take up another afternoons duties in the down siding. This engine is pretty much a resident at Manningtree now waiting to answer the call of any of the new units on the Eastern that might have failed in the area.
Its been a long time since I last spent a lot of time in London, so it was great to be back there!
It's a beautiful city, and I love it for the same reason I don't think I could live there, it's just mad.
This shot was taken in the wonderful Covent Garden, made up of 9 separate images.
Another photo of the CrossRail passenger bridge in Canary Wharf, London, with yet another red bus in the distance. You can see how wet it was at the time from the rain drops on the bridge.
It's train time at Hillburn as 4216 hustles past NJT's Suffern Yard with a Port Jervis-bound consist in tow. Moments earlier, Metro North 4912 arrived in the yard to lay over before returning east to Hoboken.

I'm still looking through some photos from a trip to London in the middle of the year, but I thought I'd upload this one next as something a bit different. One of the great things about getting the train back from London is getting to spend some time in Kings Cross.
"I was raised to hustle like a man because I was told to never depend on one."
"Let them sleep while you grind, let them party while you work, the difference will show."
