A small huntsman, Neosparassus salacius, the same individual as www.flickr.com/photos/malcolm_nq/8563930292/ adjacent.
This was (we think) a huntsman spider that was sitting on our fence last Summer. I'm pleased to say that (touch wood) we haven't had any near or in the house!
It took us over an hour driving a 4X4 vehicle up BLM roads to get to the top of this ridgeline at 12,000 feet elevation. At times the front of the truck was pointed straight up at a 45 degree angle and all we could see was the sky. STEEP!! This is near McClure Pass, Colorado. There are circling ridges with a ridgeline down the center. On both sides of the center ridgeline it drops off into deep basins. It's nothing to walk down into the basins but oh what a climb getting back out. We have seen elk here twice. Note the two figures middle right of frame for scale.
