Origem do nome: A lenda diz que a povoação foi fundada por vários chefes de família que viviam dispersos no campo e resolveram agrupar-se para uma maior protecção. Descobrindo um espaço aberto, um diz para os outros: "Aqui o campo é maior".Vestígios de proveniência diversa permitem concluir que o actual território do concelho de Campo Maior foi habitado desde a época Pré-Histórica.
Certamente foi uma Povoação Romana, dominada por Mouros durante meio milénio e conquistada por cavaleiros cristãos da família Pérez de Badajoz em 1219, que posteriormente ofereceram a aldeia pertencente ao concelho de Badajoz à Igreja de Santa Maria do Castelo.
Em 31 de Maio de 1255, D. Afonso X, rei de Leão, eleva-a a Vila.
O Senhor da Vila, o Bispo D. Frei Pedro Pérez concede, em 1260, o primeiro foral aos seus moradores assim como o seguinte brasão de armas : N. Sr.ª com um cordeiro, e a legenda “Sigillum Capituli Pacensis”.
Em 31 de Maio de 1297, através do Tratado de Paz de Alcanizes assinado em Castela por D. Fernando IV, rei de Leão e Castela e D. Dinis, passa a fazer parte de Portugal, juntamente com Olivença e Ouguela.
Campo Maior vai pertencer sucessivamente a D. Branca, irmã de D. Dinis, em 1301 ; a D. Afonso Sanches, filho ilegítimo do mesmo rei, em 1312 ; e novamente ao rei D. Dinis em 1318.
O seu castelo que se ergue a leste da vila foi reedificado por D. Dinis em 1310, e foi no século XVII e XVIII que se levantaram fortificações tornando Campo Maior numa importante praça forte de Portugal.
Como reflexo da influência castelhana em Campo Maior, durante a Revolução de 1383-85, a guarnição militar e os habitantes da vila colocam-se ao lado do rei de Castela, tornando-se necessário que o Rei D. João I de Portugal e D. Nuno Álvares Pereira se desloquem propositadamente ao Alentejo com os seus exércitos para a cercarem durante mais de um mês e meio e ocuparem pela força, em fins de 1388.
D. João II deu-lhe novo brasão: um escudo branco, tendo as armas de Portugal de um lado, e de outro S. João Baptista, patrono da vila.
Em 1512, o rei D. Manuel I concede foral à vila de Campo Maior.
Desde os fins do Século XV, muitos dos perseguidos pela Inquisição em Castela refugiam-se em Portugal. A população de Campo Maior vai aumentar substancialmente à custa da fixação de residência de muitos desses foragidos.
A comunidade judaica ou rotulada como tal era tão numerosa na vila no Século XVI que nas listas dos apresentados em autos de fé realizados em Évora pela Inquisição, Campo Maior aparece entre as terras do Alentejo com maior número de acusados de judaísmo.
A guerra com Castela a partir de 1640 vai produzir as primeiras grandes transformações.
A necessidade de fortificar a vila que durante os três últimos séculos se desenvolvera acentuadamente para fora da cerca medieval, a urgência em construir uma nova cintura amuralhada para defesa dos moradores da vila nova dos ataques dos exércitos castelhanos, vai obrigar o rei a enviar quantias avultadas em dinheiro, engenheiros militares, operários especializados e empregar um numeroso contingente de pessoal não qualificado. Os contingentes militares são então numerosos. Calcula-se que na Segunda metade do Século XVII, em cada quatro pessoas residentes na vila, uma era militar. Campo Maior foi, durante algum tempo quartel principal das tropas mercenárias holandesas destacadas para o Alentejo. A vila torna-se naquele tempo o mais importante centro militar do Alentejo, depois de Elvas.
Em 1712, o Castelo de Campo Maior vê-se cercado por um grande exército espanhol comandado pelo Marquês de Bay, o qual durante 36 dias lança sobre a vila toneladas de bombas e metralha, tendo conseguido abrir uma brecha num dos baluartes; o invasor ao pretender entrar por aí, sofre pesadas baixas que o obrigam a levantar o cerco.
No dia 16 de Setembro de 1732, pelas três da manhã, desencadeia uma violenta trovoada, o paiol, contendo 6000 arrobas de pólvora e 5000 munições, situado na torre grande do castelo é atingido por um raio, desencadeando de imediato uma violenta explosão e um incêndio que arrastou consigo cerca de dois terços da população.
D. João V determina a rápida reconstrução do castelo. A vila vai erguer-se lentamente das ruínas e aos poucos refazer-se para voltar a ocupar o lugar de primeira linha nos momentos de guerra e de local de trocas comerciais e relacionamento pacífico com os povos vizinhos de Espanha, nos tempos de paz.
No Século XVIII termina a construção das actuais Igrejas da Misericórdia e da Matriz, e lança-se a primeira pedra para a fundação da Igreja de S. João. A vila que até então só tivera uma freguesia urbana é dividida nas duas actuais, Nossa Senhora da Expectação e São João Baptista, em 1766.
Os primeiros anos do Século XIX são em Campo Maior de grande agitação. Um cerco, em 1801, pelos espanhóis e uma revolução local, em 1808, contra os franceses que então invadiram Portugal o comprovam.
A sublevação campomaiorense contra a ocupação napoleónica vai sair vitoriosa devido ao apoio do exército de Badajoz que permanece na vila durante cerca de três anos.
Em 1811 surge uma nova invasão francesa que fez um cerco cerrado durante um mês à vila, obrigando-a a capitular. Mas a sua resistência foi tal que deu tempo a que chegassem os reforços luso-britânicos sob o comando de Beresford, que põe os franceses em debandada, tendo então a vila ganho o título de Vila Leal e Valorosa, título este presente no actual brasão da vila.
As lutas entre liberais e absolutistas em Campo Maior são também acontecimentos assinaláveis.
A «cólera morbis» mata, em 1865, durante cerca de dois meses e meio, uma média de duas pessoas por dia.
Em 1867, tentam extinguir Campo Maior como sede de concelho, agregando-lhe Ouguela e anexando-o ao concelho de Elvas. Tal decisão provoca um levantamento colectivo da povoação, que em 13 de Dezembro, entre numa verdadeira greve geral.
O concelho é definitivamente acrescido da sua única freguesia rural, em 1926 – Nossa Senhora dos Degolados.

The Grandy Boat Company was formerly located on Lake Union in Seattle, and made many hundreds of boats both large and small during a long tenure there from the early 1920's to 1967.

Our students build these boats to lines and documentation taken by former instructor Tim Lee, from an original boat owned by The Center For Wooden Boats www.cwb.org in Seattle WA.
Grandy skiffs built by our students are usually between 9 and 14.5 feet long. They're lapstrake planked in western red cedar, with sapele stems, keels and transoms. Frames are White Oak or Black Locust. We build one to two boats like this each year. These small craft are some of our most popular boats.

* DESCRIPTION *
Das Graue Wunder is a two parts satirical intervention based on the controversial construction of the Waldschlösschen bridge, a highway bridge through the Elbe Valley which brought as a consequence in 2009 the unregistration of this site from UNESCO World Heritage List in which it was included since 2004.
The first part of the intervention is a wallpaper pasted into a photo booth installed in Rosmaringasse, Altstadt in Dresden city center, just near the UNESCO billboard announcing the reasons why Elbe Valley was removed from the World Heritage List. The poster shows a vertical image of the bridge and designed in a way that UNESCO logo and text « Das Graue Wunder » appears as a background of each portrait picture taken with this photo booth.
The second part of the intervention is a banner with UNESCO logo and text « Das Graue Wunder » installed at one corner of the Waldschlösschen bridge, mimetic to the six ones from Sächsische Bau GMBH company which were installed on the bridge since its building was completed at the end august 2013.
« Das Graue Wunder » is the ironic nickname given to the bridge by the citizens of Dresden who were protesting against the construction. This nickname is an echo to « Das Blaues Wunder », the Loschwitzer bridge built in 1893 upstream and nicknamed in that way according an urban legend which claims that the Loschwitzer bridge was originally painted green, but that the weather turned it blue. In addition, the name is a pun, since the meaning of the phrase ein blaues Wunder erleben is « to experience an unpleasant surprise » (Wikipedia).
Das Graue Wunder intervention is playing with viral communication in the field of territorial marketing to highlight the disagreement of citizens within a situation where functionality overrides on cultural heritage.

The Rogue River Driver is the type of boat commissioned by the novelist Zane Grey in 1903 for a trip down the Rogue River in west-central Oregon.
Author Roger Fletcher, who documented the boat in his book "Drift Boats and River Dories", states the boat was probably intended to be taken apart after its journey down the river and the redwood lumber used for another purpose. Instead, for reasons unknown, that never happened, and the boat is now a historic artifact stored under a rude open shelter deep in a wilderness area.
The School was commissioned to build an exact replica of the boat, one strong enough to make it the miles of river travel through Class III rapids necessary to get to the resting place of the original boat.
The original boat was built of redwood and nailed together over a wooden form. It was not intended to last for more than, at most, a few trips down the river.
The Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding is located in Port Hadlock WA and is an accredited, non-profit vocational school. You can find us on the web at www.nwboatschool.org .

La iglesia de San Mateo es la iglesia principal de Tarifa (Provincia de Cádiz, España), desde que dejó de serlo la extinguida Iglesia de Santa María, construida sobre los restos de una antigua mezquita existente dentro del recinto de su Alcazaba. Su origen parece estar en el aumento demográfico y urbanístico que experimenta la villa a consecuencia de la victoria cristiana de la Batalla del Salado, y por la conquista que los granadinos de Muhammed V realizan sobre Algeciras en el año 1369 tras un breve asedio, obligando a los cristianos a refugiarse y afincarse en Tarifa, llevando consigo documentos, alhajas, imágenes y vasos sagrados de la parroquia algecireña. Su advocación se dedica a este santo apóstol en memoria de que en ese día fue ganada la plaza a los musulmanes en el año 1292.
Descripción
Su construcción se supone de hacia 1506, encontrándose documentada la existencia de culto en el templo ya desde el año 1534.
A esta época corresponde la planta primitiva de la iglesia, de tres naves, y las bóvedas de crucería gótica, muy elaboradas especialmente en la nave central y en el crucero, donde se convierte en una espléndida bóveda de terceletes. También son de esta época el sistema estructural y de empujes de estas bóvedas, que descansan sobre pilastras formadas por finos baquetones con capiteles corridos y basas labradas individualmente sobre zócalo común; y en el exterior los gruesos contrafuertes, visibles en el lateral izquierdo y ocultos bajo capillas adosadas en el siglo XVIII en el derecho.
La fachada principal responde a un diseño creado por el arquitecto Torcuato Cayón de la Vega en 1774, acabándose la obra cuatro años más tarde bajo la dirección del maestro Carlos Hermida. Se trata de una monumental portada barroca muy esbelta y embutida en el centro del muro entre pilastras cajeadas de orden gigante, en cuya parte baja sitúa la puerta de entrada entre columnas clásicas sobre altos paramentos, con fustes estriados y capiteles corintios. Más arriba, una hornacina rematada por un óculo acoge una imagen de la Virgen entre columnas lisas y pináculos decorativos. Finalmente, se acaba el conjunto con una original y elegante crestería barroca ondulada y rematada asimismo con pináculos, con una cruz de piedra en el centro. La torre campanario, de base cuadrada, muy robusta, y prácticamente lisa en todo el cuerpo principal de su fuste, se acaba con un cuerpo de campanas rematado por cúpula gallonada.
La decoración interior de esta iglesia no conserva casi nada de su época primitiva. El ciejo retablo mayor de estilo clásico realizado por el arquitecto Andrés de Castillejos, que ocupaba la Capilla Mayor, fue sustituido por el actual de inspiración gótica, y tanto su estructura como sus cuadros están hoy despiezados y repartidos por las naves laterales.
La Capilla del Sagrario, a continuación del crucero en el lado de la epístola, es un interesante añadido del siglo XVIII restaurado en1899. De planta circular, se cubre con una magnífica cúpula sobre pechinas que se prolonga hasta el suelo formando tres capillas semicirculares, la central más amplia. Esta capilla presenta una fachada hacia el interior de la iglesia en forma de arco apuntado en cuyo tímpano aparece un Calvario del siglo XVI, y a la que se sobrepone otra fachada barroca con profusa decoración de mármoles.

Folly Hall Mill, Huddersfield, is a Grade 2 listed building dating from 1844. The spinning mill was in use for nearly 150 years until its closure in 1993. The fireproof mill was most famously occupied by Joseph Lumb's, a world renowned producer of fine worsted yarn. Lumb's 'Golden Bale' is still internationally recognized as a standard for worsted. The wool used to make the quality yarn in the mill came from Austrailia and a large proportion of the workforce were bused in from Barnsley.

A visit to the Museu d'Història de Barcelona, which was the last place we visited on our long day out in Barcelona. We almost didn't find it, but saw it after coming out of the Archives of the Crown of Aragon and into Plaça del Rei. Once inside, we had to put our large bags in lockers and got a key (later went back to fetch our bags).
There was Roman ruins under the museum, which you go down in a lift to see.
The Barcelona City History Museum (Catalan: Museu d'Història de Barcelona, Spanish: Museo de Historia de Barcelona, acronym MUHBA) is a city museum that conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits the historical heritage of the city of Barcelona, from its origins in Roman times until the present day; it is funded by the Barcelona municipality. The museum's headquarters are located on Plaça del Rei, in the Barcelona Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic). It also manages several historic sites all around the city, most of them archaeological sites displaying remains of the ancient Roman city, called Barcino in Latin. Some others date to medieval times, including the Jewish quarter and the medieval royal palace called the Palau Reial Major. The rest are contemporary, among them old industrial buildings and sites related to Antoni Gaudí and the Spanish Civil War. The museum was inaugurated on 14 April 1943; its principal promoter and first director was the historian Agustí Duran i Sanpere.

Entrance through Padellàs House courtyard, one of the best examples of Catalán gothic courtyards in private houses (built in the 15th and 16th centuries, reconstructed 1931). Visit to the remains of a whole quarter of the ancient Roman city of Barcino in the archaeological underground. The archaeological area under Plaça del Rei covers over 4000 m2 There is an exhibition about daily life in Roman houses and a walk over factories (laundry, dying, salted fish and garum, winery) shops (tabernae) walls (intervallum, inner parts of the towers) and streets (cardo minor). There are also found the remains of the early Christian and visigothic Episcopal architectural complex (cross shaped church, bishop’s palace, baptistery). A small exhibition outlines the medieval history of Barcelona below the romanesque vaults of the medieval Royal Palace, which two main architectural pieces are the large ceremonial hall called Saló del Tinell covered with large round arches (14th century), and the palatine chapel of Saint Agatha (14th century) with its original altarpiece, a 15th-century work by the Catalán painter Jaume Huguet. Salo del Tinell often houses temporary exhibitions.

哪里哪里: 巴尔扎克说：巴黎人对什么都感兴趣，但是到了最后对什么都不感兴趣。他们日复一日陶醉于新事物，无论什么年龄，都像孩子一样生活。这话我以为是巴尔扎克的文学夸张，但是看着眼前这个长颈鹿儿童护理中心，我又不得不承认他说的是对的。就在巴黎的繁华闹市区，紧邻着让·努维尔设计的Horizontal Tower，Hondelatte Laporte建筑师事务所把童趣和对自然的热爱带回了都市人的生活里。 远远的，你就会看见一只黄色的长颈鹿饿了，食欲旺盛又挑食的TA，对自家门前的小树已经没有了兴趣，毫无掩饰自己的饿感，冲破了大楼的三层，弹出头去看看远处公园里还有什么美味的树叶。白极熊在大楼的另一侧站立起来，双手扶着一层入口的钢架雨棚，好奇的看着屋顶平台上嬉戏玩耍的孩子们。其实，白熊脚下就有两辆儿童电动车，可以让不知疲倦吵闹着的小朋友安静好一阵的了。 这一幕出现在巴黎的布洛涅-比扬古的塞纳河区域，这栋建筑名叫长颈鹿儿童护理中心，拥有60张床位和20个护理人员。由于出色的节能设计，这栋建筑还获得了“零排放”的标签。整栋建筑用长宽高相同的三个盒子退台式叠加在一起，面向阳光的一侧提供了两个视野良好的屋顶露台供小孩玩耍；背向阳光一侧刚好形成一个可以遮风避雨的灰空间，这里虽然少了些阳光，却多了一份长颈鹿的柠檬黄色带来的欢愉。 来自http://dd.mu/=XZ36

The collection was assembled by Archdeacon A. N. Williamson, who served for many years in the diocese of Newcastle, as well as travelling extensively in the South Pacific area. The collection vividly portrays town and country life in Australia, particularly in Sydney and the Hunter Valley, soon after the turn of the century. The collection also illustrates life in Japan, Papua New Guinea, Nauru and Fiji, from the turn of the century until the mid-1930s.

RCR News Media, media partner for the 22nd Santa Fe Film Festival, covered the 10 day event with interviews by Keith Allen, Felicia Masias and Madison Brodsky from the two filmmaker luncheons held on both Saturdays at the La Fonda on the Plaza hotel.
The Santa Fe Film Festival held their 10-day event as both in-person and online featuring 168 films from 36 countries with screenings, panels and after-parties at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, Center for Contemporary Arts, The Scottish Rite Masonic Temple and the La Fonda on the Plaza. A special screening event was held in honor of Black History Month at Albuquerque’s Nexus Smokehouse Blue Brewery with a screening of “One Pint at a Time” which focused on Black-owned breweries.
New this year were the inaugural Casting Society’s ‘Casting Director Awards’ awarded to a feature and short film.
