A couple of days ago I emailed the owners (and family friends) of a local restaurant and wine bar, Noble Rot, in Portland. I asked if I could photograph their establishment without a flash. They emailed back saying sure and I stopped by that night.
I've always loved the decor but I've never really had a way to capture it. Since I've been on the lookout for interesting HDR shots, I thought that Noble Rot would work perfectly.
If you're local and haven't been - you must visit. The food is unbelievable - very tasty, original plates along with a wide selection of wines that complement the meals nicely. The setting is great and the location/view is wonderful and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
I was there for a couple of hours - early on I was just trying to stay out of the way. Towards the end of the evening the crowds eased up and I was able to move about more freely. This is a shot I took towards the end of the evening as the staff was cleaning up for the night.

The Barbican Estate, Cromwell Tower and Frobisher Crescent, London, England

Another from my Barbican series. This is Frobisher Crescent with Cromwell Tower in the background. When doing my research on this place I found out that Frobisher Crescent is one of the newest developments of the Barbican Estate. Although originally built when the rest of the estate was, it was only used as offices however back in 2009-2010 most of them were converted into apartments. Some of these flats/apartments for for £1million+!!!
This area was so quiet in comparison to the rest of the Barbican. Another photographer approached me when I was around this area and we got talking and he told me this was his first time in London and was really enjoying it however he couldn't believe that this place (The Barbican) was in London as its so different to the modern stuff that is present in the city. I suppose this makes London so special, such a mix!

The Barbican Estate is a residential estate built during the 1960s and the 1970s in the City of London, in an area once devastated by World War II bombings and today densely populated by financial institutions. It contains, or is adjacent to, the Barbican Arts Centre, the Museum of London, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Barbican public library, the City of London School for Girls and a YMCA (now closed), forming the Barbican Complex.
The Barbican Complex is a prominent example of British brutalist architecture and is Grade II listed as a whole with the exception of the late Milton Court. Milton Court once contained a fire station, medical facilities and some flats and was demolished to allow the construction of a new apartment complex which also contains additional facilities for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Along the boardwalk in Coney Island, two very different couples, each charming in its own way... The wonderful, warm-toned late afternoon light gave everyone a warm glow!
The dramatic couple in the foreground looks as if they walked over from Brighton Beach , at the other end of the boardwalk , where a large population of Russian and Polish emigrants lives. The woman's pose reminds me of an opera singer giving a recital, standing in the crook of the piano. Very classy!!!
One interesting (if not mysterious) detail is the shadow of an approaching stranger's head and shoulders on the woman's hands and shawl...

The Badshahi Mosque in Lahore at dusk. The telltale Mughal architecture and the magnificent domes that accompany it makes this the most beautiful mosque I've had the pleasure of visiting. The mood was very relaxed and as we wandered around waiting for a well-timed dusk photo session we were treated to a well-sung call to prayer (not always the case), the evening prayer itself presenting photo ops.
I'm going to Damascus in January and one of the photo projects is the Umayyad Mosque, a worthy contender to runner-up.

Ballygluin is now best remembered as the station in the opening scene of John Fordes Irish epic “The Quiet Man”. Ballygluin posed as “Castletown” station as a bemused John Wayne steps from the train, enquiring from curious locals for the way to his ancestorial home of “Innisfree” in the 1952 academy award winning movie.
Ballygluin was opened as part of the Athenry and Tuam Railway in 1860. Ballygluin was also part of the long straggling route of the Waterford, Limerick & Western Railway. The station saw it’s last regular trains in 1975, Part of this 185Km line (Limerick to Athenry) is due to reopen this year after a multi-million euro refurbishment, when it’s the turn of Athenry to Collooney section is now anybody’s guess. Dem Architekten Karl von Loehr wurde die Oberbauleitung übertragen, die technische Leitung hatte der Bauwerksmeister Adolf Kieß aus Tübingen inne. Am 15. Mai 1905 war Kirchweihe.
Der Name Oranier leitet sich von dem bedeutendsten Vertreter der ottonischen Linie ab: Wilhelm von Oranien, genannt der Schweiger (* 24. April 1533 in Dillenburg; † 10. Juli 1584 in Delft), der Vorkämpfer des Protestantismus in den Niederlanden gegen die Spanier war.

Die Kirchenfenster sind gestaltet worden von Margret Thomann-Hegner (* 1911, + 2005). This one took me a couple of tries before I really figured out what I wanted to do with it. I knew I wanted something with bright colors - something I've never really done before, not counting a few Mac clones I put together - and with a higher image:text ratio on the taskbar. But the rest took an unusual amount of trial and error.
I'm really surprised by how much I'm liking the double-height taskbar. I'll probably go back to the single eventually, but it's nice to discover the flexibility. What I've done here is created artificial space for a few Rainmeter skins by adding the Quicklaunch and Links toolbars, which are, of course, empty. I suppose this could easily be mistaken for a Windows 7 taskbar; I'll have to try and duplicate it once I've made the switch. (If anyone knows how to center the taskbar tabs when there's only one row, please let me know.)

Moths of Borneo: Gunung Trusmadi
The Borneo Jungle Girl Camp or Trus Madi Entomology Camp sits deep in the lush forests of Gunung Trusmadi, Sabah — the northern-most state of Malaysian Borneo. It is a Class 1 Fully Protected Forestry Reserve on Mount Trusmadi, the second highest mountain in Malaysia, standing at 2642 meters (8668 feet) tall.
At Borneo Jungle Girl Camp, I stayed for 4 nights with a group of friends and returned with almost 7000 photos, recording almost 600 species of moths and lots of other insects and arachnids. Photos from other taxonomic groups will be uploaded to my Flickr collections and split into taxonomic groups.

Guimerà, Lleida (Spain).
ENGLISH
Guimerà is a municipality of the region of the Urgell, in Lleida.
It is located in the valley of the Corb river. The main body of houses, formerly walled, rests on the North slope of the valley. The streets and the houses extend above mountain from the river-bed.
Still part of the walls is conserved, with their 9 gates, the watchtower of the castle of Guimerà and centennial houses, as well as the medieval store of snow.
Also Guimerà is known as “the nine Glasses”, since the view of the town from the river is an accumulation of houses on others.
The main activity of the town is the dry land agriculture.
In the middle of August a medieval fair is celebrated, with stands of craftsmen and old offices, and some performances.
The most remarkable buildings of the municipality are the rest of the castle and the church of Santa Maria.

Guimerà es un municipio de la comarca del Urgell, en Lleida.
Se sitúa en el valle del río Corb. El núcleo principal de casas, antiguamente amurallado, reposa sobre la vertiente norte del valle. Las calles y las casas se extienden montaña arriba desde el lecho del río.
Aún se conservan parte de las murallas, con sus 9 puertas, la atalaya del castillo de Guimerà y casas centenarias, así como la nevera medieval.
También se conoce Guimerà como 'El nueve de Copas', ya que la vista del pueblo desde el río es un amontonamiento de casas unas sobre otras.
La actividad principal del pueblo es la agricultura de secano.
A mediados de agosto se celebra una feria medieval, con puestos de artesanos y de oficios antiguos, y algunas actuaciones.
Los edificios más notables del municipio son los restos del castillo y la iglesia de Santa María.
