Well, I was out with The Bando yesterday...why these guys let me hang around with them, I'll never know!
We downed some java and then headed for the wintry wilds of nature and all the breathtaking glory it has to offer, with the sole purpose of capturing awesome images using our digital pixel-gatherers...every shot I took was crap! Crap I tell you!
Coincidentally... while we were out there...oh, never mind that!
To be somewhat fair to myself, I was experimenting with a newly acquired (read: given to me by one Monsieur JW Vraets) FOTGA Slim Fader Variable ND Filter Adjustable ND2 to ND400 77mm Neutral Density. None-the-less, everything was either over-exposed, blotchy, blurry, blotchy and blurry, or just plainly so bereft of detail or composition that, while reviewing them on the computer monitor, I could hear me ol' granpappy sarcastically cackling in my brain saying, "Hoo hoo! A cleptopyromaniacyakyak could have taken better shots than that that!"
"Ya, thanks gramps, " I muttered aloud despondently.
Just as I was about to close the file, I noticed one that was so over-exposed, Drew Barrymore would have been embarrassed! For kicks, I tonemapped it and the result was an image with this checkerboard pattern integrated into the elements. Now, most photographers would have uttered, "Shit! Another dud!" But, since I am not one of those and merely just own a camera, I blurted out, "Cool!"
Well, no sooner said...
Anyway, at the next Bando 'renkonti' (its French or something for 'meeting up and chatting about things' - a similar occurrence happened on Coruscant at the Jedi Temple), I will inquire just how such an abstraction befell my inglorious work of art (original photo) and maybe, if Matt pulls out a piece of paper and pen, while JW attempts to explain it in 'layman terms' (of course, Barry will just be oogling the girls meantime), I just might understand it!

En la concurrida calle Istiklal, un signo del pasado contribuye a completar el ambiente que se respira al callejear por ella: el histórico tranvía, instalado en el siglo XIX para unir la plaza Taksim con el barrio de Beyoglu en Tünel, uniendo con el funicular subterráneo que nos lleva hasta el puente Gálata a orillas del Cuerno de Oro.
Este simpático tranvía, fué retirado de la circulación en los años 60, pero posteriormente fué rehabilitado más como incentivo turístico que como transporte, pero desde entonces es parte del paisaje de esta calle. Lo ves pasar abarrotado de turistas, y los chavales van colgados en el exterior, sólo para jugar, puesto que los ves divertidos e imagino que se pasarán las horas subiendo y bajando la calle agarrados como pueden.

En estas dos fotografías de los tranvías he querido aprovechar al máximo las posibilidades de la técnica hdr, y creo que han quedado muy llamativos.

LA NEOMUDEJAR LNM Centro de artes de vanguardia y residencia artística internacional. Calle Antonio de Nebrija s/n. Estación de Atocha, Madrid.
La Neomudejar tiene como prioridad favorecer, impulsar y dar visibilidad al creador emergente. La creación por encima de los discursos y las teorías imperantes en los circuitos actuales del arte. El centro de artes de vanguardia entronca con la base de las teorías naturales de contraposición al arte establecido. Esta arquitectura creativa parte de la identificación de las carencias del colectivo artístico y opta por una respuesta basada en la ejecución por encima del discurso academicista imperante. El objetivo es asentar un espacio internacional de referencia, para creadores multidisciplinares con carácter de continuidad para los nuevos códigos y lenguajes que profundicen en la experimentación. Videoarte, instalaciones, performes, street art, parkour, robótica, translación de cuerpos, etc… son algunas de las disciplinas que pretende acompañar. Especial atención se da a formatos tecnológicos de nueva generación así como a los desechados, que merecen una revisión al amparo de un reciclado consciente y creativo en pugna con la inmediatez y caducidad de las sociedades de consumo actual.
Un espacio con vocación de Resistencia Artística Internacional. Para ello se hizo un trabajo de investigación a fin de encontrar el inmueble adecuado a la singularidad de la propia propuesta. Tras más de un año de trabajo y gracias a la colaboración de Adif, que apoya el proyecto de forma continuada dentro de su programa de Responsabilidad Social y Sostenibilidad, se firma un contrato de alquiler en condiciones especiales para el desarrollo y recuperación del espacio como el Centro de Artes de Vanguardia y Residencia Artística Internacional. La recuperación del espacio adquiere una dimensión diferente al tomar la arquitectura y la decadencia del edificio como punto de inflexión para reflexionar sobre los procesos de creación y rehabilitación. Poner en valor estos conceptos es parte y todo del concepto de “La Neomudejar”. El marcado carácter como espacio de trabajo viene derivado de uso original ya que albergó durante décadas los talleres de formación de Renfe. Los lucernarios, la cubierta en diente de sierra, los amplios espacios, las antiguas calderas, la fragua, el mobiliario de carpintería, etc… terminan por reforzar este concepto.
La Neomudejar pertenecía a la antigua estación de Atocha y la vía del tren llegaba a la misma puerta desde donde se surtía directamente desde los vagones de mercancías. Por ello podemos relacionar históricamente al edificio con la vanguardia ya que en el momento de su construcción –Finales del S XIX, comienzos del XX-, las principales estaciones de ferrocarril eran la puerta de las ciudades al mundo por donde entraban todas las innovaciones tecnológicas y por supuesto, artísticas. La situación geográfica dentro de la ciudad de Madrid también es un punto relevante para conceptualizar de nuevo este antiguo edificio ya que se encuentra en las inmediaciones del llamado eje Prado-Recoletos que engloba la principal oferta cultural de la ciudad abarcando el Museo del Prado, Museo Nacional Centro de Artes Reina Sofía, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Caixa-Forum Madrid y La Casa Encendida.
El estilo arquitectónico del edificio, encuadrable en el neomudejar, del que toma nombre la institución, provee al centro de una señas de identidad propias. Un estilo que se enmarca dentro de las corrientes medievalistas europeas de finales del XIX que reivindican estilos propiamente nacionales, en este caso un estilo puramente español, el mudéjar, que en su reinventado desarrollo decimonónico se ve unido a las construcciones industriales, ferroviarias, religiosas y especialmente a las taurinas, encontrándose cantidad de ejemplos de construcciones neomudéjares en todo el país, y muy singularmente en la ciudad de Madrid.

- www.kevin-palmer.com - In the Cascade Range in northwest Washington is a peak called Mount Baker. This peak is the 3rd tallest in the state, and is among the snowiest mountains on Earth. One winter saw a staggering 95 feet of snow fall, which is the most recorded anywhere in a single season. A few weeks ago I hiked halfway up and set up camp on a ridge overlooking this volcanic peak. Into the clouds I ascended and waited until they finally parted just before sunset. My jaw dropped as the glacier-capped summit appeared high above me. But the view was short-lived as the winds shifted and brought in heavy smoke from Canada. Even though the meteor shower would be a bust, I was thankful to get this view, however brief it was. This volcano is still active with fumaroles found in the summit crater, but it hasn't erupted since the end of the 19th century.

SH Arnolt Inc. of Chicago and Warsaw Indiana sold four different manufacturer's cars with Bertone bodies during the period 1953 to 1968.
Stanley H. "Wacky" Arnolt was a Chicago industrialist, who began importing foreign cars in the 1950s to the United States. Though sold as American cars, the cars were true hybrids, with British mechanicals, Italian bodywork, and U.S. sales and distribution, as well as in some cases final assembly and body work. SH Arnolt Inc. was a licensed automobile manufacturer in the State of Illinois.
A fortuitous meeting with Bertone at the Turin Auto Show in 1952 resulted in four collaborative efforts between Arnolt and Bertone.
The first was the Arnolt-MG, a four-seater Bertone-bodied car based on the MG TD chassis and XPAG 54 hp engine. The Arnolt MG was designed by Giovanni Bertone, his son Nuccio, and Giovanni Michelotti. Of a planned production of 200 cars, 103 have been documented as built between 1953 and 1954 (67 coupes and 36 convertibles). Out of this total, the whereabouts of 36 are unknown and three are known to have been scrapped (as of 1993).
The initial price was $3145. In 1954, MG informed Arnolt that it could no longer supply chassis and engines due to demand for its own complete cars (as well as the replacement of the TD by the TF), so Arnolt began looking for a larger-engined car.

Another one from my recent tiger adventure in South Africa.
This was shot on a late afternoon. It had been heavily overcast most of the day, but suddenly the sun appeared from below the clouds and brought everything to life. As cats do, this tiger immediately wanted to take advantage of the situation and climbed up a hill to find herself a nice spot on the rocks to enjoy the warmth.

Over on LEGO Rebrick they're currently having a Nexo Knights Mech competition; And this was (mostly) built for that.
Theres no shortage of beautiful, and massive Mechs over there. It's well worth checking out the entriees. But I wanted to take a different take. If you've been following along with my work, you've probably noticed I have a style, and certain themes I like to come back to; in particular - kids at play. And this riffs on that idea. Two kids, playing with their favourite Mechs, while the fate of Knighton Castle hangs in the balance. In a classic Red Vs Blue micro-style.

It is loosely based on Elmore, a small town located in Central Victoria, Australia. The station, water tower and goods shed are close approximations to those that existed in Elmore in 1972. The other elements are fictional, but plausible, additions.

Just a few more shots since I built the other wing/panel. Hadn't posted a frontal or rear shot until now. So, what's changed? Well, I made the exhaust ports a little bigger, I flipped the rods so they face forward, and I overcame one thing I used to hate so much: asymmetry.
