This is an excellent plant which flowers basically all year round. It is dainty, and grows to about 60cm with shiny leaves and slender flower stems with velvety cerise little flowers giving a haze of colour. It needs a spot where it won't be overgrown by bigger plants. It does tolerate a bit of shade but is most floriferous in a sunny spot. It looks pretty with silver or cerise leaves nearby; pink or blue flowers are also attractive with it - it is very pretty in a cottage-style garden.

C'est en urgence que que suis revenue les prendre, car les massifs sont en cours de renouvellement, sur l'autre côté de la rue, ils étaient en train de les arracher quand nous allions à la boulangerie.
Et ça fait bizarre de voir le plateau du camion, tout fleuri, plein de pétunias et autres, encore très beaux qui partent au compost.

Wem das Märchen einer trauten Innigkeit zwischen der deutschen Kanzlerin und
dem "Neuen Messias Amerikas" keine Tränen der Rührung in die Augen treibt, kann
wenigsten mit boshafter Gehässigkeit (oder besser: noch funktionierendem
politischen Gedächniss) der Glanzzeiten deutsch-deutscher Freundschaftsrituale
gedenken. Wie die oberste Verwaltungschefin der Deutschland GmbH mit ihrem
Personal (vielleicht richtiger: Untertanen) umgeht, zeigt der Besuch Obama´s in Dresden.
Für über 24 Stunden war die historische Altstadt (oder das, was nach den verhehrenden
Angriffen durch englische und amerikanische Bomber im Februar 1945 davon übrig
blieb und in den nachfolgenden 65 Jahren noch entgültig dem Bagger zum Opfer fiel
oder als steingewordener Zeitgeist bis heute der Nachwelt zugemutet wurde) für alle
gesperrt, die nicht als Anwohner oder zugelassener Dienstleister mit handverlesenen
Genehmigungen im Dunstkreis des US-Präsidenten und seiner deutschen Kolonial-
verwalterin ausweisen konnten, gesperrt. Öffentliche Gebäude (z.B. die Kunsthochschule
an der Brühlschen Terasse und die innerstädtischen Museen) blieben geschlossen,
Geschäfte machten dicht und das ganze Areal diente als gigantische Kulisse für den
Drill: WIR KÖNNEN MIT EUCH MACHEN WAS WIR WOLLEN!
Nicht nur, das der ganze Autoverkehr aus der Innenstadt verbannt, die zentrumsnahen
Straßenbahn und Busverkehr weiträumig umgeleitet wurde und das nervige Dröhnen
der Überwachungshubschrauber oder die vielfarbigen Polizeieinheiten ihren martialischen
Auftritt (zu Wasser, zu Lande und zur Luft) demonstrierten - höflich, aber lauernd bestimmt,
den vorlauten oder renitenten Bürger in die Schranken wiesen, auch die Absperrung der
Elbebrücken (Albertbrücke, Marienbrücke, Flügelwegbrücke) für Fußgänger und Radfahrer,
die erst nach Stunden aufgehoben wurde, gehörte mit zum WELCOM MR. PRESIDENT-
Programm.
Erinnern wir uns (die wir durch die Gnade der verfrühten Geburt, das zweifelhafte Glück hatten
den ersten deutschen Arbeiter- und Bauernstaat zu erleben, richtiger wohl: zu überleben)
doch noch zu gut an die dunklen Tage Helmut Schmidts bei seinem Besuch des Dach-
deckers auf dem Güstrower Weihnachtsmarkt 1981. Damals bemühte sich die Stasi ja noch
ein Volk zu imitieren (während die Anwohner, weg vom Fenster, dem innigen Treiben fernge-
halten wurde). Das hat wohl die FDJ-Sekretärin so sehr beeindruckt, das sie diesmal kurzerhand
das Volk ganz ausschloß. Sicher ist sicher oder wie es Lenin zugeschrieben wird: Vertrauen
ist gut, Kontrolle ist besser und bei den Milliarden aus der Portokasse zuküftiger Generationen
für verbrecherische Finanzhaie sind ja die Kosten für solche Polizeieinsätze eher Peanuts
(wie man als Amerikaner sagen würde), oder?
Mir bleibt über so viel Sicherheitsgetue nur der beissende Spott übrig: haben die da Oben
soviel Angst vor uns hier unten oder soll uns gezeigt werden, wer der Herr im Staate ist?
Egal, als Trost bleibt mir das schlechte Wetter und der Spruch Erich Kästners:

Complex arquitectònic que integra construccions de diferents èpoques, des de l'edat mitjana fins l'actualitat. Entre les edificacions medievals destaca una torre (de 5,6 m de diàmetre i parets de més d'1,5 m de gruix), amb una petita sala circular a l'interior; dues petites sales corbades perimetrals a la torre, comunicades amb portes de mig punt d'estil romànic; una sala absidial possiblement emprada com a baptisteri i que conserva pintures murals d'interès; l'atri de l'església, una sala rectangular que està decorada també amb pintures murals i inclou una volta d'aresta gòtica amb una clau que mostra les armes dels Espuny (senyors del castell a les darreries de l'edat mitjana i fins al segle XVII); i una sala amb una escala que condueix a la part residencial.
L'església és d'una sola nau, coberta amb volta d'aresta amb arcs torals, amb absis rectangular i cripta funerària accessible. La decoració és molt senzilla, amb una gran motllura a la imposta de la volta, finestres cegues i lesenes que continuen fins a terra els arcs torals. L'amplada aparent es veu incrementada per sis capelles a cada costat, que ocupen els espais lliures entre els contraforts de la volta. Al costat de l'epístola del presbiteri hi ha la sagristia. En la primera i la tercera capelles del costat de l'evangeli hi ha portes que comuniquen amb el pati interior del conjunt, i a les capelles dels peus portes que duen a sales annexes. Als peus de la nau hi ha un gran cor de fusta, amb accés des de la mateixa església i des de la torre rodona. A ambdós costats, damunt la sagristia i les capelles laterals, i a nivell del cor, hi ha dues fileres de petites habitacions. Darrera de l'absis de l'església hi ha un edifici de planta rectangular i dos pisos. La planta baixa de la resta de l'edifici té forma de L. L'ala que queda al cos principal de l'edifici, està força compartimentada. L'ala de ponent compta amb una gran nau que en origen era destinada a celler. A la porta, enconat, hi ha un cartell que es data a l'any 1693. A l'extrem del celler hi ha una altra edificació de dues plantes rectangulars, amb accés també des de l'exterior. La planta residencial ha estat en ús fins a l'actualitat. La primera planta ocupa dues ales de l'edifici, amb un total de vint-i-tres espais, sense comptar els passadissos. Tres són cuines que encara conserven els fogons de carbó, i hi ha quatre banys. Dos espais més es troben dins les edificacions medievals de la torre rodona, i comuniquen amb el cor de l'església. De cara al pati interior, hi ha una gran sala-menjador, i una altra sala habilitada com a menjador situada prop de l'angle nord-occidental del conjunt. Hi ha setze dormitoris, dos conserven l'estructura de cambra i alcova. Tots donen a l'exterior, amb finestra o balcó, i la major part estan coberts per voltes catalanes rebaixades, que els donen una presència imponent. Prop del menjador hi ha un gran terrat, que permet accedir a una sala, aïllada de la resta, que es troba en mal estat de conservació. Damunt de les ales residencials hi ha les golfes, on es pot observar la cara interna de les voltes que cobreixen els passadissos i les habitacions, així com les encavallades de fusta. Estan il·luminades per finestres arran de terra. Damunt l'angle de les dues naus hi ha un gran mirador amb tres arcades a cada costat curt i cinc als costats llargs. Bona part de les arcades estan tapiades. A ponent, hi ha un cos annex. Es tracta d'una porxada parcialment tapiada, amb grans arcs de mig punt de més de tres metres de llum, que donen al jardí. L'edifici compta amb dos grans jardins. Un ocupa l'espai central i l'altre queda al costat de ponent. Aquest últim inclou una avinguda envoltada de xiprers que mena fins a la bassa. Al costat de la bassa hi ha un gran pou de planta ovalada, creuat per una arcada d'origen molt probablement medieval. Per últim, a una certa distància a ponent del conjunt edificat hi ha la torre d'un antic molí de vent i les ruïnes d'un altre edifici.
La part més antiga d'aquest conjunt arquitectònic, és el que queda de la casa natal de Raimon Penyafort (1175 / 1185 - 1275), una petita fortificació depenent del castell d'Olèrdola. La majoria d'edificis que es conserven es van construir després de la canonització el sant. L'any 1602 començarem les obres de construcció del convent dominicà de Penyafort, amb una església de dimensions considerables i dues ales de planta rectangular, amb la planta baixa destinada a usos agrícoles i el pis a espais residencials. El 1707 es construí el portal de l'església, que tenia un gran retaule que va ser robat el 1815.
L'any 1835 el castell-convent va ser desamortitzat i passà a mans privades. A les darreries del segle XIX pertanyia a l'enginyer Puig i Llagostera, que va renovar l'edifici i l'adaptà com a mansió senyorial. L'any 1936 l'església va ser saquejada i se'n van cremar les relíquies que conservava. Aleshores va ser transformada en presó per a captius de guerra, mentre els propietaris i els masovers seguien emprant la part residencial. Després d'un període de deteriorament i successius canvis de mans, el conjunt va ser adquirit l'any 1980 per la senyora Gallemí. El conjunt va ser declarats el 8 de gener de 1988 Bé d'Interès Cultural, amb la categoria de Monument Nacional. L'any 1997 es creà l'Associació d'Amics del Castell de Penyafort, amb la finalitat de vetllar per la conservació física i els usos socials del castell. L'any 2002, l'ajuntament de Sta. Blue Whale ‘Song of Death’ Says Warns World Of 2012 Catastrophe

A most interesting FSB report from the Russian Far Eastern Chukchi Peninsula circulating in the Kremlin today states that the tribal shamanic elders of the Siberian Yupik peoples have convened in their most holy of conclaves for the first time since the June, 30 1908 Tunguska explosion, which at over 1,000 times the power of the atomic bombs dropped by the US on Japan during World War II these Arctic peoples warned was a sign that our human race had placed itself upon a path of ‘total’ destruction by its placing the worship of science over that of nature for the first time in its modern history and thus failing to have learned the lessons of the ancients who suffered a similar fate when they too sought godhood.
Interesting to note about the Yupik shaman council warning of June, 1908 was that it was indeed followed by the July, 1908 Young Turk Revolution that began the demise of the Ottoman Empire, and then followed by the October, 1908 Bosnian Crisis which began when Bulgaria declared its independence and the Austria-Hungary Empire announced the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, both of which events ‘lit the fuse’ for our World’s first ever Total Global Conflict called World War I that killed nearly 15 million.
Note: World War I saw the defeat of the German Empire with its signing of the disastrous Treaty of Versailles which plunged Germany into economic chaos and set the stage for World War II. Germany has also just announced it will make its final World War I reparations payment on October 3, 2010, ninety-one years after this conflict ended.
This latest Yupik shaman council warning is stating that our World is now in even more danger than in 1908 as humanity has failed to learn the lessons of over a century of war, which these Arctic peoples say is evidenced by the Blue Whale ‘Guardians of our Earth’ now singing the “Song of Death” as an ‘announcement’ to all human beings to prepare for the ending of all things.
To the Blue Whales ‘Song of Death’ the Yupik shamans are referring to, baffled Western Scientists are now also reporting that these largest animals our World has ever known have indeed begun to mysteriously change their ‘songs’, all over our Planet for the first time in recorded history, and in what John Calombokidis, a blue whale expert at the Cascadia Research Collective, notes is a “fascinating finding”.
But to what Western scientists are now noting to their puzzlingly alarm as to the changing of the Blue Whales song the World over, the Yupik shamans first noted during a 2002 meeting in Yanrakynnot, Russia when in examining the ‘strange portents’ occurring throughout the Arctic Regions of our Planet warned that only 10 years were left before the ‘Time of the Great Ending’ was upon us all again.
The importance of the Yupik shamans warning of 2012 being a ‘time of ending’ should not be taken likely either as it agrees with the ancient Mayan Calendar [photo 2nd left] which also puts a great Global portent on this 2012 year and new research now showing the linkage of these ancient Maya peoples of the Americas with the Yupik and other Arctic peoples through their shared Na-Dene language origins.
Though many Western scientists have long theorized that the peopling of the Americas was due to the Arctic peoples from Asia once crossing an ice bridged Bering Straight, Russian scientists, and the Arctic peoples themselves, have long stated the reverse is true and that after our World’s last ‘overturning’ the refugees for those humans who survived expanded outwards from the Americas to the rest of the World.
The 16th Century French seer Michel de Nostredame (Nostradamus) further eludes to this when in his book of predictions named The Prophecies (Century VI Quatrains 21) he predicts the uniting of the Arctic peoples in the ‘last days’ by his stating:
When those of the arctic pole are united together,
Great terror and fear in the East:
Newly elected, the great trembling supported,
Rhodes, Byzantium stained with Barbarian blood.
Also interesting to note is that though the governments of this World continue to deny the significance of 2012 their preparations for it continue, including the stocking of the Svalbard Global Seed Vault (also known as the Doomsday Vault) on the Arctic Norwegian island of Spitsbergen to hold samples of all of our World’s seeds, and the American President Barack Obama recently stating that all of the US Military Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan will start returning home in 2011.
Even more interesting to note about all of these events is that changing of our World’s Blue Whales ‘song’ involves a shifting in their time frequency as predicted by the renowned University of Chicago and Princeton scientist Dr. José Argüelles, who in his 2002 book Time and the Technosphere devises and promotes a notion that he calls the “Law of Time”, in part framed by his interpretations of how Maya calendrical mathematics functioned.
In this notional framework Argüelles claims to have identified a “fundamental law” involving two timing frequencies: one he calls “mechanized time” with a “12:60 frequency”, and the other “natural [time] codified by the Maya [that is] understood to be the frequency 13:20”.
To Argüelles, “the irregular 12-month [Gregorian] calendar and artificial, mechanized 60-minute hour” is a construct that artificially regulates human affairs, and is out-of-step with the natural “synchronic order”. He proposes the universal abandonment of the Gregorian calendar and its replacement with Argüelles' thirteen-moon calendar, in order to “get the human race back on course” by the adoption of “[his] calendar of perfect harmony so the human race could straighten its mind out again.”
Also needing to be mentioned is that since the Blue Whales began singing their ‘Song of Death’ warning to humanity the numbers of crop circles relating to the Mayan Calendar have, likewise, been increasing throughout the World.
In the Sorcha Faal’s book “Battle Begins For Throne of This World: The Return of the Einherjar Warriors”, she points out that one of these Arctic peoples most ancient sayings is “We don’t believe. We fear.” A saying, perhaps, those wise enough to understand should adopt so as not to be lulled into the same kind of complacency that kept billions of human beings unprotected during our World’s last great ending.

The European Stonechat (Saxicola rubicola) is a small passerine bird that was formerly classed as a subspecies of the Common Stonechat. Long considered a member of the thrush family Turdidae, genetic evidence has placed it and its relatives in the Old World flycatcher family Muscicapidae. It is slightly smaller than the European Robin. Both sexes have distinctively short wings. The summer male has black upperparts, a black head, an orange throat and breast, and a white belly and vent. It also has white half-collar on the sides of its neck, a small white scapular patch on the wings, and a very small white patch on the rump often streaked with black. European Stonechats breed in heathland, coastal dunes and rough grassland with scattered small shrubs and bramble, open gorse, tussocks or heather. They are short-distance migrants or non-migratory. The male's song is high and twittering like a Dunnock. Both sexes have a clicking call like stones knocking together. Saxicola rubicola hibernans occurs in northwestern Europe in Atlantic coastal areas, in southwestern Norway, Great Britain, Ireland and northwestern France. (wikipedia)

`Babo Pithoro' is a ritual painting style of the Rathwas that springs from their faith in the village witch doctor's powers to heal all grievances. ``The witch doctor, or lakahara, is held in highest esteem by the Rathwas who seek his consultation for any ill that befalls a family. It is he who visualizes the Babo Pithoro and directs the family to organise the ritual to bade away the evil by invoking the gods,'' said Ghosalkar.
The five-day ceremony is extensive and expensive, sometimes costing the family as much as Rs 30,000. While the preparation starts 15 days in advance with the family going door-to-door with invitations, the first 24 hours are devoted to the painting, inside the host's house followed by the ind, a ceremony invoking the gods by carving sculptures of 11 teak wood pillars. Alongside, is song, dance, food, locally brewed wines, tadi and mahura and merry-making.
A small group of painters chitaras are assigned the job of completing the painting within 24 hours under the supervision of the lakhara who decides on the figures to be painted, their position and the colours to be used. An offering of a slain chicken and wine is first made to the deity (Gamdev) at the makund, the holiest site in the village. The work starts from the wall on the left side of the house with the figure of the evil bhootdev followed by sequential paintings of ancestors, warriors, horses, the sun and moon and traditional Pithora figurines. No shade of black is used in the paintings, as it is considered inauspicious by the tribals.

There is never an attempt to imitate nature: a horse or a bull, which might be a vision of a god, impresses him with only one central quality.

The front or central wall is very large, twice the size of each of the sidewalls. These walls are treated with two layers of cow dung paste and one layer of white chalk powder. Unmarried girls bring in these materials. This procedure is called Lipna. The main wall of the verandah that divides it from the kitchen is considered sacred to the Pithoro. The wall paintings related to the legends of creation and Pithoro, are done on this wall. The two sidewalls of the veranda are also painted with figures of minor deities, ghosts and ancestors.

From time to time as a photographer you get problems that do not make sense. Often that is it cannot be logical how something managed to appear in a photo !
The most common (other people get or notice as a photgrapher or just home quick snaps) is a person in an empty room or building that cannot be explained as been present as there is no possible way !
In this , the increments of size and position subtley do not make sense you cannot see through something on one side as a reflection or it would block the reflecttion further behind it, however the real world of the pub internals in the background show through it as does the reflection !!!
---Where the two glasses are with the unexplained face , a wine glass and a beer middy glass, these are reasonably real to my memory as also the two actual people a man and a woman that were sitting there(NOT the two that ARE in the photo at the same bench - a different pair) around that time but had leaved their seats shortly before i lined up the photo.
You may think it's easy to justify from some other angle, however it is simply not possible.
I have a photo of the two when they came back to the window for their drinks but its quality has real problems in showing a clean description that they are real and definitely has some logical light refraction and reflection problems but they are real for what i watched of the evenings interactions inside the pub the short while i was their on the pavement outside.
The first i ever noticed was in around 1998 with colour negative film when i took a photo from the moving suburban train in complete midday daylight of the suburban scenery and found a person whoms lower body had the bricks of the front yard wall showing through the person in unison to position ! The camera shot was around 1/500th and the train not particularly bumpy or fast.
"Fantasma" : (note one of my photos shows someone sitting there later not dissimilar to the face HOWEVER that translucency is not possible!)!
I am only 3 yards at the most from this window at the time!
In the bottom right corner , the car reflection passes-shows through the face putting the face for accuracy "behind the car across the road" but is too large to be at that distance , but the face has the background walls of the pub show through.
The other face between the person with the white shirt and face merged with the car is not possible between the window and the car although around that perspective size to the shot.

Als Kelten- oder Viereckschanze bezeichnet man die vor allem in Süddeutschland anzutreffenden Reste von quadratischen, manchmal auch rechteckigen Gevierten mit Wall und umlaufendem Graben. Alleine in Bayern und Baden-Württemberg sind mehr als 300 dieser Anlagen bekannt. Daneben gibt es, wenn auch (bisher) deutlich seltener erkannt, Viereckschanzen in der Schweiz, in Österreich, in Böhmen sowie in Nordfrankreich.
Zwischen Deisenhofen und Wolfratshausen findet man die größte Anzahl an Keltenschanzen in Deutschland. Allein rund um Deisenhofen sind sechs Schanzen erhalten, darunter die 2 größten in Süddeutschland. Diese, die südlichst gelegene Schanze von Deisenhofen und für mich eine der Schönsten im Umkreis, befindet sich nordöstlich von Kreuzpullach.
Beschreibung von einer Hinweistafel des Landratsamts München:
Im Gegensatz zu den Keltenschanzen im freien Gelände, wie z.B. im Lanzenhaarer Feld (östlich von Deisenhofen), wurde diese im Hachinger Holz gelegene Schanze aus dem letzten Jahrhundert vor Christi Geburt später vom Wald überwachsen.
Die viereckigen Wälle mit vorgelagerten Gräben (hier 75 auf 90 m Seitenlänge) umgrenzen eine Kultstätte des Volkes der Kelten. Im Innern des Rechtecks, das durch ein Tor im Ostwall betreten werden konnte, vollzog man in kleinen hölzernen Tempeln und tiefreichenden Schächten religiöse Handlungen.
In der Nähe befinden sich noch eine Hügelgräbergruppe aus der späten Bronzezeit (um 1300 v.Chr.).
Die Schanze besitzt auf allen vier Seiten gut erhaltene Wälle und Gräben. Die Wälle mit einer durchschnittlichen Höhe von etwa vier Metern und einer Breite von vier bis fünf Metern zeigen die schanzentypischen Erhöhungen (etwa einen halben Meter) in den Eckbereichen. Die Gräben besitzen eine Tiefe von rund zwei Metern bei einer Breite von drei bis vier Metern. Das Bodenniveau der Schanzen-Innenfläche liegt etwa einen halben Meter erhöht über dem Bodenniveau der äußeren Umgebung.

Dr. Richard Burr was a general physician before the start of the Civil War. After realizing the profit to be made as an embalming surgeon, he took up the cause and set to work. He served briefly with the 72nd PA Volunteer Infantry. Several sources testify that Burr was not the most reputable of undertakers. He was well noted for his price gouging and made a habit of selling and reselling the same grave marker for locally buried soldiers. There are also stories of him robbing the dead or dying as he scoured the battlefields. Despite this bad reputation, Dr. Burr is credited with designing the basic structure of modern arterial embalming in which the veins of the dead are filled with chemical preservatives in place of blood. As most victims bled to death, arterial embalming proved to be the path of least resistance. Burr injected the chemicals through an incisor in the armpit. It was fast, easy, left almost no marks on the body and by-passed the filling of the abdominal cavity altogether. With a pile of corpses to work on, speed was of the essence.
In the 1850s embalming had been chiefly used not to prepare bodies for funerals but to contribute to the study of anatomy and pathology by providing cadavers preserved for dissection.
It was during the war that embalming first became more widely practiced, not just generating a transformation in physical treatment of the dead but establishing a procedure that would serve as a foundation for the emergence of the funeral industry and the professionalization of the undertaker.
But more was operating here than purely practical concerns about how to arrest decomposition of bodies in order to ship them home. Americans did not want to endure the unprecedented separation from deceased kin that war had introduced. Families sought to see their lost loved ones in as lifelike a state as possible, not just to be certain of their identity but also to bid them farewell. Embalming offered families a way to combat at least some of the threats the war posed to the principles of the Good Death. To contemplate one’s husband, father, or son in a state of seemingly sleeplike repose was a means of resisting death’s terror—and even, to a degree, its reality; it offered a way of blurring the boundary between life and death. Corpses, at least those that had not been dismembered in combat, could be made to look lifelike, could be made to appear as if they were on the verge of awakening in a new life to come.

The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is the U.S. Navy’s primary strike and air superiority aircraft. It is an updated version of the F-18C/D, featuring a 20 percent larger airframe, 7,000 lb heavier empty weight, and 15,000 lb heavier maximum weight than the original Hornet. The Super Hornet carries 33 percent more internal fuel, increasing mission range by 41 percent and endurance by 50 percent over the earlier Hornet.
The F/A-18 E/F acquisition program was an unparalleled success. The aircraft emerged from Engineering and Manufacturing Development meeting all of its performance requirements on cost, on schedule and 400 pounds under weight. All of this was verified in Operational Verification testing, the final exam, passing with flying colors receiving the highest possible endorsement.
The first operational cruise of Super Hornet, F/A-18 E, was with VFA-115 onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) on July 24, 2002, and saw initial combat action on Nov. 6, 2002, when they participated in a strike on hostile targets in the "no-fly" zone in Iraq.
Super Hornet, flew combat sorties from Abraham Lincoln during Southern Watch, demonstrating reliability and an increased range and payload capability. VFA 115 embarked aboard Lincoln expended twice the amount of bombs as other squadrons in their airwing (with 100% accuracy) and met and exceeded all readiness requirements while on deployment. The Super Hornet cost per flight hour is 40% of the F-14 Tomcat and requires 75% less labor hours per flight hour.
The forward fuselage is unchanged from the C/D Hornet, but the remainder of the aircraft shares little with earlier F/A-18C/D models. The fuselage was stretched by 34 inches to make room for fuel and future avionics upgrades and increased the wing area by 25%. However, the Super Hornet has 42% fewer structural parts than the original Hornet design. The General Electric F414 engine, developed from the Hornet's F404, has 35% additional thrust over most of the aircraft's flight envelope. The Super Hornet can return to an aircraft carrier with a larger load of unspent fuel and munitions than the original Hornet.
Other differences include approximately rectangular intakes for the engines and two extra wing hard points for payload (for a total of 11), retaining previous hardpoints on the bottom centerline, wingtips, and two conformal fuselage positions. Among the most significant aerodynamic changes are the enlarged leading edge extensions which provide improved vortex lifting characteristics in high angle of attack maneuvers, and reduce the static stability margin to enhance pitching characteristics. This results in pitch rates in excess of 40 degrees per second, and high resistance to departure from controlled flight.
The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is an attack aircraft as well as a fighter through selected use of external equipment and advanced networking capabilities to accomplish specific missions. This “force multiplier” capability gives the operational commander more flexibility in employing tactical aircraft in a rapidly changing battle scenario. In its fighter mode, it serves as escort and fleet air defense. In its attack mode, it provides force projection, interdiction, and close and deep air support.

Mount Moiwa (藻岩山, Moiwa-yama) is one of several small, forested mountains southwest of central Sapporo. The mountain is a popular sightseeing spot that is known for the spectacular view out over the city from an observation deck at its summit. The view is especially beautiful after sunset.
The Mount Moiwa Ropeway climbs from the base of the mountain three quarters up the mountain to a transfer station. From there a rather unique mini cablecar travels the rest of the way to the upper station at the summit where there is an observation deck and restaurant with nice views out over the city. We arrived at Innisfree as soon as it opened at 10AM one mid-August morning when the entire Northeastern US was in the middle of a record heatwave. Despite the heat and humidity, we were able to make a quick 1.5 mile circle on the path around the deep glacial lake at the heart of this 150 acre garden before we wilted and had to return to our air conditioned car. The harsh mid-day light made photography challenging, as you can see. We learned that Innisfree, said by some to be one of the world's Ten Great Gardens, opens at sunrise on three occasions each year, and we are already planning another trip to the Hudson River Valley in the future when we hope we can see and photograph this amazing place under better conditions.

"In the late 1920s, Walter Beck and his wife, avid gardener and heiress Marion Burt Beck, began work on Innisfree, their country residence in Millbrook, New York. Walter Beck’s fascination with Asian art influenced his painting, the collecting he and his wife pursued, and their ideas on garden design. In the 1930s, Beck discovered the work of 8th-century Chinese poet, painter and garden maker Wang Wei. Studying scroll paintings of his famed garden, the Wangchuan Villa, Beck observed that Wang created carefully defined, inwardly focused gardens and garden vignettes within a larger, naturalistic landscape. Wang’s place-making technique — christened “cup gardens,” by Beck — influenced centuries of Chinese and Japanese garden design. It is also the principal design motif in the Innisfree landscape. Like his Chinese predecessor, Beck created three-dimensional pictures in the garden, incorporating both rocks from the site and horticultural advice from his wife. Unlike Wang Wei, or perhaps more familiar figures like Lawrence Johnston, who used his cup-like rooms at Hidcote in England to draw one through a sequence of events and create an overall sense of place, Beck focused more on individual compositions. Relating these to each other and to the landscape as a whole was the genius of Lester Collins."
The genius of this place lies not so much in the ideas which the designers formulated for the cup gardens, many of which are disarmingly simple, but in the way they have been maintained over the years. Essentially, everything is allowed to settle into the prevailing spirit of the place; if it does not, it is removed. A look around the Borromeo Palace and it's amazing gardens.
Isola Bella (lit. 'beautiful island') is one of the Borromean Islands of Lago Maggiore in north Italy. The island is situated in the Borromean Gulf 400 metres from the lakeside town of Stresa. Isola Bella is 320 metres long by 400 metres wide and is divided between the Palace, its Italianate garden, and a small fishing village.
Until 1632 the island—known only as l’isola inferiore or isola di sotto—was a rocky crag occupied by a tiny fishing village: but that year Carlo III of the influential House of Borromeo began the construction of a palazzo dedicated to his wife, Isabella D'Adda, from whom the island takes its name. He entrusted the works to the Milanese Angelo Crivelli, who was also to be responsible for the planning the gardens. The works were interrupted around middle of the century when the Duchy of Milan was struck by a devastating outbreak of the plague.
Construction resumed when the island passed to Carlo’s sons, Cardinal Giberto III (1615–1672) and Vitaliano VI (1620–1690); the latter in particular, with the financial backing of his elder brother, entrusted the completion of the works to the Milanese architect Carlo Fontana and turned the villa into a place of sumptuous parties and theatrical events for the nobility of Europe.
The completion of the gardens, however, was left to his nephew Carlo IV (1657–1734). They were inaugurated in 1671.
The island achieved its highest level of social success during the period of Giberto V Borromeo (1751–1837) when guests included Edward Gibbon, Napoleon and his wife Joséphine de Beauharnais, and Caroline of Brunswick, the Princess of Wales. It is said that Caroline, having fallen in love with the place, did her best to convince the Borromeo family to sell her Isola Madre or the Castelli di Cannero islands; her request being turned down, she established herself on the banks of Lake Como at Cernobbio in the Villa d’Este.

Eight countries will also participate for the first time in next year's biennale: the Bahamas, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Republic of Kosovo, Kuwait, the Maldives, Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria and Paraguay. In 2011, 89 international pavilions, the most ever, were accessible in the Giardini and across the city.
We have done some reorganization around the house: we added a few bookshelves upstairs and emptied the lowest ones in the living room.
Then we collected all the toys we could find, were stunned at how much we actually have, and packed them all in boxes.
Now Karel and Madelief have a box of bricks, a box of teddy bears and a plastic seesaw in their bedroom, and downstairs in the living room they have two pushcarts, a spiral thingy, a box of legos, a box of teddy bears and one out of eight numbered boxes with all sorts of toys (to be replaced at regular intervals).
With less toys, they get to play more. And the empty bookshelves don't necessarily hold toy boxes, they're also a good place to store little children.

We hebben hier in huis een kleine reorganisatie doorgevoerd: we hebben boven een paar boekenplanken toegevoegd en in de woonkamer de onderste planken leeggemaakt.
Daarna hebben we alle speeltjes verzameld die we maar konden vinden in huis - verbazingwekkend hoeveel rommel we hebben - en dat allemaal in dozen gesorteerd.
Nu hebben Karel en Madelief op hun kamer een blokkendoos, een doos beertjes en een plastic wipwap, en in de woonkamer hebben ze twee duwwagentjes, een spiraalgeval, een doos duplo, een doos beertjes en een van acht genumerde dozen met allerlei speelgoed (roulerend in te zetten).
Met minder speeltjes spelen ze meer. En de lege boekenplanken zijn niet alleen handig om speelgoeddozen op te bergen, je kunt er ook heel goed kleine kindjes op kwijt.
