A walk around the lake Stensjön. For my album “East of Gothenburg. Take a look !

This faded female is likely laying her last eggs here on this thistle leaf, the host plant for their caterpillars. Painted lady caterpillars can't survive the cold winters here but these eggs will likely hatch and make more pretty painted ladies before the snow flies.

My Friday Night hosting outfit is brought to you by Candy Kitten, the Savage Love Dress in the Pride print and the Naughty Girl Stockings and Boots.

Candy Kitten is awesome any time - great new releases and group gifts - but I wanted to highlight that for the next two days, Kaci has been so generous in waiving the usual group fee... which actually started about 12 hours ago, so you'll want to get instore quickly to take advantage of this amazing group.

'I wandered lonely as a cloud,

when all at once I saw a crowd,

a host, of golden daffodils,

beside the lake, beneath the trees,

fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

By William Wordsworth

I like this poem, and the row of daffodils guarding the holly hedge in my garden reminded me ot 'the host of golden daffodils'.

"Crete hosts an extremely rare and endemic variety of plane trees (Platanus orientalis var. Cretica) with about 50 trees being reported throughout the island. The characteristic feature of this variety is that it is evergreen, unlike the common deciduous plane trees.

One of these trees is of great historical and mythological value and has survived the centuries, since the Minoan era. This is the plane of Gortyna, which still stands proudly in the back side of the current archaeological site of ancient Gortys.

The plane was dedicated to Zeus and according to mythology, under this tree, Zeus mated with Europa after transferring her to Crete from [the Levant]*. This is where she conceived her children; Minos, Sarpedon and Radamanthys. Since then, the plane did not lose its foliage again. The importance given to this tree is very clear by the depiction of Europa under the tree in the ancient coins of Gortys."

*The author writes "Africa" here, but this isn't correct.

Dahlia El Paso on a spangled backdrop - lovely pink, lilac and yellow dahlia playing host to some wee critters....couldn't get a photograph without them, every time I returned, every shot :^)

In our garden.

In the span of 10 years this site went from being an abandoned quarry to hosting the U.S. Open

Every year about this time, I watch the hosta plants emerge and I am captivated. Last year I was testing a lens and this is one of the shots captured.

If I remember correctly, shot with Rodenstock Retina Heligon 50mm f1.9.

Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) on a Swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) plant. As was emphasized at a recent butterfly garden presentation you need both host plants and nectar plants to have the most successful butterfly friendly garden.
