This was the first time I'd been lucky enough to encounter a young Cuckoo being fed by its host (on this occasion a hapless Meadow Pipit). I was able to watch the behaviour for about 20 minutes. The demanding Cuckoo made a surprisingly thin begging call for such a large bird, perhaps mimicking fledglings of its host species. In any case, the Meadow Pipit was run off its feet (flown off its wings) trying to keep up, completely immersed in the deception. Antiga masoveria de la masia del Vilar de Sant Boi, fins el 1965, és una masia de tipus basilical que té a la llinda la data de 1756. S'hi celebra una tradicional fira de bestiar el 28 de setembre, en l’època que els ramats de les contrades pirinenques i subpirinenques baixen a hivernar a les zones, més càlides, de l’interior. "Crete hosts an extremely rare and endemic variety of plane trees (Platanus orientalis var. Cretica) with about 50 trees being reported throughout the island. The characteristic feature of this variety is that it is evergreen, unlike the common deciduous plane trees.
One of these trees is of great historical and mythological value and has survived the centuries, since the Minoan era. This is the plane of Gortyna, which still stands proudly in the back side of the current archaeological site of ancient Gortys.
The plane was dedicated to Zeus and according to mythology, under this tree, Zeus mated with Europa after transferring her to Crete from [the Levant]*. This is where she conceived her children; Minos, Sarpedon and Radamanthys. Since then, the plane did not lose its foliage again. The importance given to this tree is very clear by the depiction of Europa under the tree in the ancient coins of Gortys."

Every year about this time, I watch the hosta plants emerge and I am captivated. Last year I was testing a lens and this is one of the shots captured.

Kelly Warm Springs hosts an interesting collection of unwanted aquarium fish. The outlet creek is cold enough that these non-native fish have not yet made it to the Snake River. The National Park Service is working on removing them.
It used to be a popular soaking spot for locals, but the presence of a brain-eating amoeba, naeglaria fowleri, seems to have dampened enthusiasm somewhat.
Celebrating Riga’s 825th anniversary, Sarkandaugava will host Street Art Month this summer – a new initiative that will bring contemporary art and urban cultural events to the neighborhood. Nine new murals will be created during the month, and visitors are invited to participate in three diverse events that will bring together artists, researchers, young people and residents of the neighborhood.
The Street Art Month will be opened by the monumental mural “Pārnese” by French street artist Fred Battle in Aleksa Square, Tilta Street 8. It reflects the importance of collective memory in shaping the city’s future. The work focuses on an open-air market, where books, vinyl records, household items and cars from the 1990s become witnesses to everyday cultural heritage. The painting emphasizes sustainability, cultural exchange and the ability of a community to give new meaning to the past, showing that the true heritage of a city lies in people, their memories and mutual relationships. The idea of the work organically resonates with the identity of Sarkandaugava – one of Riga’s oldest industrial districts, where industrial heritage, the port environment and the historical stories of working-class communities intertwine with contemporary street culture. The opening of the new artwork will take place on July 20.
Fred Battle is internationally known for his large-scale public art works and exhibitions in France, Spain, Japan, Canada and the USA. In his works, he explores industrial heritage, material transformations and human relationships with the urban environment, proving that public art can strengthen the identity of a place and promote a dialogue between the past and the future.

Hornbeam is an important host plant for the cockchafer.
The leaves of the hornbeam are also a food source for a large number of butterfly larvae. The tree is a host plant for the larvae of the small winter butterfly (Operophtera brumata), hornbeam moth (Agrotera nemoralis), hazel owl (Colocasia coryli), Acleris cristana, Coleophora ahenella, Coleophora anatipenella, Coleophora currucipennella, Coleophora fuscocuprella, Coleophora milvipennis, Coleophora orbitella, Coleophora serratella, Coleophora siccifolia, Pamphilius marginatus, Stigmella floslactella, Stigmella microtheriella and Ypsolopha parenthesella.
Au XIIième siècle, une hostie miraculeuse était vénérée dans l'église. Dans la seconde moitié du XIIIième siècle, un cajarcois, Aymeric d'Hébrard de la famille de Saint-Sulpice, évêque de Coïmbre, fit restaurer entièrement l'église. Pendant les guerres de religion on s'acharna sur les édifices religieux et au cours des siècles l’église devait subir de nombreuses mutilations et transformations. Les derniers gros travaux sont datés d'entre 1875 (avec la création d’un chœur semi-circulaire, d’une sacristie, d’un portail monumental au sud et une ouverture des rues autour de l’édifice) et 1881 avec l'installation de l'orgue. C'est en 1928 qu'on vit l'aménagement de la chapelle dédiée à la bienheureuse Annette Pelras, cette cajarcoise née le 16 juin 1760 et montée sur l’échafaud à Paris le 17 juillet 1794 pour avoir, comme quinze de ses sœurs de congrégation, refusé de renier sa foi. Dès le parvis, on peut apercevoir une statue de Saint Roch invitant les pèlerins et cheminants sur le chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle à prendre un peu de repos sous ses voûtes.

A host of motorcycles, mostly Harley Davidsons gathered at the Brookdale Tavern Bloomfield NJ across the street from me on March 6th, 2021. Earlier in the day members of the Bloomfield NJ police department and many others from police departments as far as Massachusetts said final good-byes to retired Bloomfield 53 year old police officer Benedetto “Benny” Christiano, who lost his battle to COVID-19 on March 2, 2021. He retired in December 2020 and then was diagnosed with COVID-19.
