A new Rider (a watch for motorcycle riders) in the display area at Prim.
On September 26, 2008 my family and I were privileged to spend the day in the beautiful town of Nové Mesto nad Metují in the east of the Czech Republic, close to the Polish border. Our host was Mr. Jan Prokop, Marketing Director (and principal designer) at the ELTON hodinárská, a.s. - the manufacturers of fine bespoke Prim wristwatches.
Mr. Prokop collected us from our hotel in Prague, drove us to Nové Mesto nad Metují and back (a round trip of three hours), presented their current product range, guided us through their interesting museum, and led us on a tour of the full manufacturing operation at Prim. This was a fantastic opportunity, and we got to see everything from the manufacturing of cases, dials, hesatite crystals and hands through to the final assembly process. We also saw great examples of their bespoke manufacturing capability as well as their top class restoration service. Mr Prokop ended a fine day with a meal and good local beer in a restaurant on the old town square.
Six weeks after our visit I sent my prized Prim Sport "Igen" 38 (produced in the 60's and early-70's) to ELTON where it is currently being restored and modernised to my specification, as well as being personalised. I can't wait to get it back - my first bespoke wristwatch and an heirloom to pass on to my son!
Although obviously sensitive about certain parts of their operation, Mr. Prokop graciously allowed me to take many photographs during our visit, and here they are for your viewing pleasure. As you will see, these are truly hand-made watches that combine both leading edge design and manufacturing processes and age-old processes and technologies. It is this progressive traditionalism and craftsmanship that gives these unique timepieces their individual character...and I love them!

A rare night out (in these virus times) with some friends, with like minded interests. I brought all the Seikos; latest in was the SPB199J1 Alpinist -- which happens to be a 2,020 pcs limited edition EU only release.
Thanks a lot, Fratello!

A 1960s Metamec mantel clock with its original battery operated electric movement, in good working order. When the company started clock manufacture, it made its own movements but this one has a Japanese movement.
Metamec (Metalwork & Mechanics) of Dereham in Norfolk, started in 1941 as an offshoot of the Jentique furniture manufacturer, producing wooden cases for instrument and bombs during WW2. In around 1947 they started making high end clocks, becoming prolific producers of quality timepieces. In the 1980s they suffered from German and Far Eastern competition, being bought out in 1985 by FKI of Halifax. The Dereham site was run by Ross Consumer Electronics until 1995 when the factory closed down. Clocks are still produced today under the Metamec name, in Derbyshire.
Another Great shot of a DATEJUST. I find Jewelery one of the most difficult objects to photograph. Watches are not so bad though. If you have'nt tried it take an Engagment ring, a pair of earings or a necklace And see just how challenging it can be especially anything with
Diamonds.
If you care about your Health watch this its not advertising anything just factual information www.brasschecktv.com/page/191.html
Upton Hall, British Horological Institute, Nottinghamshire. Located in the village of Upton near Newark, the Hall was built in 1828 to the design of W Donthorne and it was extended around the turn of the C20th. If you are suffering from G.A.S. with a quiver of camera gear, then you are probably are familiar with the very innovative Chinese lens company Venus Lens aka Laowa. They come up with some very "CREATIVE" lenses and high quality and fairly affordable. So, a couple of years ago I picked up this 15mm f4.0 MACRO??!! Ultra wide angle and macro is like drinking gin and strawberry milk!
So, until today, I have only used the lens once because it is a weird application. I would not really use it for tabletop because my setting is very confined and not suitable for an ultra wide angle. We are getting a last burst of summer and so I think it was about 108º this afternoon and once I finished my bike ride I have been wanting to experiment with my surf housing and this wide angle lens mounted on a tripod in the pool to capture watches dropping into the water. I tried a variety of shots but mostly somehow there were big dust bunnies either on my sensor or the lens and it really killed all the shots.
But, then I just went for still shots and I get it. A different perspective for sure.
