I was in a bar next to the mid levels escalators in Hong Kong and I noticed this guy opposite me smoking a hookah. I have never seen one of these before and never been in a bar that provides them for the customers (if you look in the top right of the picture you can see some more). It reminded me of the hookah smoking caterpillar in the Alice stories.
Decided to bring my camera along with me to my friend BJ's house. Ended up trying hookah for the first time.
A new portrait taken with my new 50 mm f/1.8 ahh I LOVE this new lens. Its from an old Nikon FE, but I've been using it with my D60. I feel like it still has some qualities of film although I'm using it digitally.
This is a quasi-famous lounge as a patron shot another patron in the face with a gun while he was hookahing.
I coincidentally ran by the crime scene after it happened, like the Sunday morning after.
I asked a cop on the sidewalk what was going on... and he said: "Face shooting last night. Right in the hookah!"
("Right in the hookah!" --- I found this extremely funny. And yet sad and shocking. Much like a Trump Cornavirus briefing....)
The face shooter was never caught, i don't think. They put billboards up of him. Wanted billboards. A $50,000 reward was offered.

you want a melon flavored? same thing. in the background they have the hookah in the melon.
(best viewed in the light box) I don't smoke, but a friend brought over his hookah last night. It was very interesting to learn about. I tried it after he got it going and I kinda' enjoyed it. He put this apple and melon flavoured mushy pulp in it, which serves as the "tobacco". (He also had raspberry which might have been nice). Exhaling the "smoke" (more like a steam) is like a lightly flavoured cigarette or cigar, however not harsh at all. The best part of it was that you do not get that disgusting cigarette taste that stays in your mouth forever. In less than a minute, there was no aftertaste in your mouth whatsoever. I would recommend trying it at least once if you've never done so. Ottawa has hookah bars where you can sit outside and give these things a try.
From wikipedia: A Hookah or waterpipe is a single or multi-stemmed (often glass-based) instrument for smoking tobacco in which the smoke is cooled and filtered by passing through water. Originally from India, hookah has gained popularity, especially in the Middle East and is gaining popularity in North America, Europe, Australia and Brazil.
