An interior shot for a rainy and cool day. I thought the repetition of the hooks might be interesting.
I grew up in New Jersey, but never remember visiting the cool Navesink Twin Lights in the Atlantic Highlands near Sandy Hook. I probably drove past them hundreds of times. These lights were built in 1862 and look like a fortress - or maybe a prison. I think these are the old twin lights in the country. They are different than range lights that have to work in sync for the ships to find a channel. Visiting these lights was a real treat and we visited on Tuesday August 5, 2014.
A couple of shots in my Marmite series - either you love them or most likely hate them!! Haven't been able to go out due to the bad weather!!

One of the jobs in longline fishing is "slinging hooks". This involves tossing the baited hook over the side while holding the line with the other hand. A number clip is then added to the end of each gangion before it is clipped to the main line. Here I am holding the gangion as Joe attaches the number clip to the line.
These hooks stand 6' high when in the ground. Both are made with two lengths of rod running the full length making them very strong.

Hooks I reworked from 2/0 Mustad stock (top). I cut off the eyes, tapered the shank and worked the points and barbs (middle). Finally I Japanned the hooks using Bill Bailey's Japanning formula (bottom).
