This was taken for a feature in Total Carp Magazine to highlight hook patterns used in carp fishing.
Processed in LR2 and shot on a 60mm macro lens to create the shallow depth of field. Off-camera TTL flash in from the left to avoid reflections off the plastic packets.

I played around with the aperture a bunch with this hook and bobber combination, and finally settled on this depth of field as my favorite. Not sure why.

A building situated at the tip of the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford, in Ireland. It is one of the oldest lighthouses in the world, and the oldest operating lighthouse in Ireland.
One of my first fish, barely pinned in the roof of the mouth. 4/0 Mustad red worm hook with 6" Tequila Sunrise Power Worm. I pinched the barb down and fished barbless all day. Lost a few, but not more than normal. Some fish never got on the hook, just grabbed the worm by the tail and ripped it off.
I originally rejected the photo due to it being out of focus and uninteresting, later I went through the rejected photos to try and find more of the injured Gull, then I saw the hook was was clearly though the bottom of its beak. Ouch.

River Thames, Kent, UK. In July 2011, this buoy and the nearby East Last are due to be replaced as the channel they marked is shallowing. The new route is the Copperas Channel to be marked by the Reculver (port hand) and the Copperas (starboard hand) about 3/4 mile to the SW.
