This solid brass coat hook comes from an "old federal building", according to the label on the back.
Being in Chicago, this likely means it originally hung somewhere in Henry Ives Cobb's Chicago Federal Building, demolished in 1965. I imagine dozens of them, lining the hallway of the judges' chambers... or in a cloak room off the lobby. Who knows.
I love the worn patina, the little voids and spots where the molten metal didn't quite fill, and the overall size and heft; it juts out 4" from the base, and stands nearly 5.5" tall. Feels like it's around a pound.
I hope to one day reproduce these in brass - maybe also a darkened bronze. It'd make a killer bathrobe hook, and I could even imagine a row of them, lined up on an exposed brick wall in a garage or barn.
It's a simple, utilitarian design that neither Melissa nor I have seen before. That's saying something, as we've looked at a lot of old hardware. At $25, we just couldn't pass up.
Found over the weekend locally on Craigslist.
Remains of Hook Norton viaduct. It must have been spectacular in its day and the site will certainly get another visit from me.

The algae hooks that i used to play with during childhood. This is a side view of the concrete stone that i kept on top of my water tank as weight. This morning i found my childhood hooks have grown on them.
A bit of a story to this one and it was a case of right place right time. For those who know the area, I have always wonder whats behind them hills they built from all the rubble from the Old Wembley on the A40 by the target round about. Decided to have a look, and I found 6 fishing lakes. Got few nice captures off some coot chicks there. Anyway got talking to this lady called Sue, who made me a nice cup of coffee, and she explain to me all about the history of the place and an organization called Get Hook on Fishing and the work they do for local areas, young and old. They do this via fishing, and I witnessed some off this today first hand. Well they were having a match that morning, so I asked if they minded me taking a few snaps.

This is a hook I'm in the middle of working on for a friend. This shows the different sides/views of the hook. More so that I can see where I am in my progress and what needs to be shaped up.
