Harriet Hollister Spencer State Recreation Area, part of the New York state park system, is located six miles south of Honeoye, New York, off Canadice Hill Rd. in Ontario County, New York. The park is in the south part of the Town of Canadice.
Open year-round, the recreation area offers panoramic views of the countryside, including Honeoye Lake.
Because of its elevation, this recreation area gets more snow than many parks in the area, making it a mecca for winter sports enthusiasts. Trails, ranging in difficulty from novice to expert, are constructed, maintained, and groomed by the Rochester Cross Country Ski Foundation ( www.xcrochester.com ). Cross-country skiing teams often use Spencer for practice, and recreational groups can often be seen on a winter outing.
The land was a gift to the state from the estate of Harriet Hollister Spencer (1887-1962), a Rochester rose expert and civic leader.
The park has one picnic pavilion, and offers hiking, cross-country skiing, and biking trails, and hunting.

Honeoye Falls in what I consider just about the best-looking flow. The former mill on the right dates from the 1830's and is now the Town Hall. The red building is not that old. The original mill on that side was torn down some time ago, but the red building, a gem for photographers, was built on the 1823 foundation.
I just noticed the odd current-like thing at left-center of the pool below the falls. I didn't notice that when I was there. Wonder what makes that?

Apartment building fire at the Country Colony Estates on Curtiss Rd, Town of Canadice,(Richmond Fire District) Ontario County, NY.
This falls is obviously from a dam, but I like the far side as it appears the most natural. Many times, depending on the light, the red building will be sharply reflected on the water above the falls. Other times there is just the nice red glow.
