No more ugly gym wall - primed and ready for decent paint

There ya go, done. The wooden sill will be painted green or something sometime, it's just the tiling that I was focusing on. Ain't it purdy?

Someone's always playing corporation games

Who cares? They're always changing corporation names

We just want to dance here

Someone stole the stage

They call us irresponsible

Don't you remember:

We built this city -- we built this city on rock & roll

-- Starship, "We Built This City"

Continuing on with my distraction from my distraction. I was going to measure the walls and trim these down today in preparation for painting but, uh, well, there was Internet at my house.

It's weird how this song is considered by some to be one of the worst songs of the 80's, when it was co-written by Bernie Taupin (Elton John's writer) and Peter Wolf (vocalist/lyricist of The J.Geils Band), and performed by Mickey Thomas (vocalist for Elvin Bishop) and Grace Slick (vocalist of Jefferson Airplane). How could it go wrong?

The remodel is finally complete in the boys bathroom. We went from yellow ducks to pirate. The border actually came in this week so I can't wait to get that up as well. It looks so different from what it was.

Day one hundred thirty-nine/365. A widely-used personality test, known as the "Meyers-Briggs," classifies people according to four measures of their character. Analysts of the Meyers-Briggs have looked at various combinations of those four measures, decided what those sixteen possibilities are like, named one general classification of people as "Artisans."

Artisans tend to be adventure lovers and risk takers. As the name implies, they tend to like working with their hands.

I am not an Artisan, by Meyers-Briggs standards or in the more popular understanding of the word. But, sometimes it's necessary, and even cool, to hang out with the Artisans.

Like today. I took this photo in a home improvement center. It's a bundle of plywood-sized insulation sheets, standing on their ends and reaching toward the warehouse ceiling. I had a project to do at home, so what better opportunity is there to take photos than when you're hanging out with the Artisans?

Of course, not everyone who shops at a home improvement store is an Artisan. But, it's cool to pretend I know what I'm doing.

There are a few studs left to be installed but the major framing is complete. I also wired an outlet that will sit on top of the mantel. The switch is a low voltage switch for the fireplace.

The framing on the top of the fireplace is unusual as there is a gap to facilitate the fireplace exhaust. Per the directions there can't be any material within an inch of it for safety. In order to maximize the ledge for the mantel I skipped over the exhaust with the framing.

[ October 25, 2009 ] Our current home improvement project: upgrading anything and everything under the house.. insullation, vapor barrier, etc. This is us looking confused at Home Depot....

This is an AFTER of the first bathroom. I am pleased with the way it turned out. I had a nice set from Bed Bath and Beyond but then went to Macy's and found this curtain. Since the house is earth toned I thought that this would be a cheery and welcoming change.

The wall had 2 layers of paint and 2 layers of wallpaper over the plaster.

told mike he can try painting with a brush

Painted cabinets, Ikea chair, and desk

Responsible Handyman Las Vegas installed this gorgeous 12" granite tile with an accent strip along our tub surround and shower . They also made 4 granite corner shelves to match. I would highly recommend them to anyone in the Las Vegas area that needs some home improvement or maintenance!

This took frickin' hours and I am now wearing a few bandages, but the functional parts of this corner are done now. Getting the cabinets bolted up wasn't so much a problem, but finding studs where to put the bolts was. Putting in the electrical wasn't tough, just required a little configuring because the electrical wire came out of the wall below the cabinet. Also, I followed the template for where to put the screws for the microwave and yet... the holes didn't line up. And the spacer blocks I put in per the instructions, despite being glued up, kept moving so I couldn't get the screws in place so simply... And then putting in the vent pipe from microwave to the hole in the ceiling was a huge debacle because the difference between the middle of the two holes is 4½" so I had to bend some pipe... And once I was putting the pipe in the cabinet that's when the attic part of the pipe fell in like a prolapsed rectum, so I had to go to the attic and screw around with that (including doing some cutting with a Dremel) to get that crap back in... And did I mention the miles of duct tape that connect the two ends?

But the damn thing is done!! And works. Bring on the paint!

Now, to do tile decoration below this...

Painting in progress - - but I ran out of paint and Dunn-Edwards is not open on Sunday.

Made from the scrap wood left over from the desk project.

Our house came with a pedestal sink.. but as you can see the builder's rough-plumber didn't give a shit, so all the water lines aren't hidden behind the leg.. Anyways, we wanted more room to store washroom stuff such as cleaners and other hash chemicals.. So, out this goes! (Well, to the basement it goes, anyways.. we aren't throwing it out just yet)
