I'm thrilled with how this turned out. It is a BIG improvement for the room.

The four windows on the left will be my office

The completed bench, with paint.

OK, I lied. Those might be flaws in the wood, not brushstrokes.

I put a little over 2 hours on the tractor working to smooth out the dirt left after the drainage work. A long way to go.

Replaced sliding glass doors that went to no where with these windows in dining room. Actually, dining room is starting to be sitting room as I love the view out back. Forty large pines were taken down and I can now see out to the stone wall at boundary line.

And, again, we have shelves! We weren't able to find pre-drilled Melamine 24" wide, so Jim drilled both sides evenly. In theory, we can always change shelf height.

We tore up a few large swathes of grass -- back over by the side yard (essentially all in front of it), plus the area beyond the driveway strip. The edge was meant to be where we planned to put (someday -- six years later!) steps going up from the sidewalk.

The hall bathroom in our 1983 house needed a little facelift, and while it's still not ideal, it's miles better than it started out!

Curtain refers to the decorative side of any curtain. The sides are often made of stiff fabric that has little or no open space on them. This is to prevent "leaking", which is what usually happens when curtains are closed and drawers left open.

The wall is not washable, and it gets splatters from the stove. Does the tile look ridiculous, or does it look okay?

Phase 1 of our first major home improvement project is finished. Jason did all of it himself, and knocked out "the hole" in our family room. The shelf in the corner went all the way across and down the opposite side forming a ridiculous hole.

Jason demo'd it, drywalled the shelf, a shelf, the house is now totally opened up and I have a nice view from the desk in my office where I sit all day and work.

YAY!! for Handy Husbands!!!!

Here is a video time lapse of the demo:

I have most of the top parts finished. I am planning to replace the handrail and add metal ballusters, also a few other bits need replaced. But it is coming along. Temps were 100 (plus) today, so the project is going to wait until it cools off a bit.

with all the new furniture and rug

All for the sake of mounting the TV. In hind sight, it would have been a lot quicker and cheaper to get a piece of furniture and be done with it eh. Of course that would be too easy. So what we thought that would be a couple of hours weekend DIY project, turned into a 3-weekend job which included calling in an electrician :(

Now we are 15% closer to completing the second last room in the house to complete the never-ending projects which started almost 4 years ago. We are getting there...slowly, hopefully but surely ;).

I had to push the rock against a tree to get it into the bucket.

View of the closet from the stairs.

Our new kitchen goes from a little too country to a little more rock 'n roll.

Like the kitchen, the pantry has two layers of carpet, the bottom one foam-backed and glued to the floor. The trap-door to the basement adds an additional challenge to the project.

The first problem with the closet is that the shelving is very recessed and hard to access. The second half of the closet is taken up by space for closet rod that hadn't been used by us or the previous owners -- indicated by the missing closet rod and nail "hooks" along the back wall. Overall, it is a pretty cramped and poorly designed space.

Painting the rest of the kitch/dining room area.

We needed to move the door control to hang this sheet.

The crew needed to return for one more day to finish up a few sections.

Round-shaped mosque carpet and Ottoman-lined carpet are both well-known models. The round-shaped carpet is usually used by large mosques.

A prayer mat or prayer rug is a flat piece of cloth, not a plush carpet, used most often by Muslims and some Christians for daily prayer. The mat has a closed weave design that catches the sweat from one's forehead as he or she prays.

Status of the fireplacing tiling job. All that's left is cutting some tiles for the top under the mantle (2 1/8 inch high) and the two sides (I'll try my hand at beveling), then grouting in a fawn-sand color.

The blue tape there serves no actual purpose.

These guys are fantastic!

Installed in-ceiling speakers and moved all the A/V equipment into a nearby closet.

Shelves from the landing (which served as a hand tool bench).

My lovely assistant the carpet-beast demonstrates that the vinyl flooring in my diningroom is fugly. He should know, he is the closest to it and spends the most time on it.

I had thought about taking this all out, but it doesn't come up so easily. The glue may not have stuck on the floor under the oven and has curled up around the edges of the room, but it's pretty intact everywhere else. So fine, I'm leaving it, Marmoleum is a floating floor anyway.

This picture is also for the person who pointed out I've been aiming the camera in the other direction, at the counter and kitchen. Okay, here's the accent wall and nothing else!

A collection of hardware tools, including a hammer and plyers.

It was a race against the setting sun to get OSB cut and installed. We made it with a few minutes to spare.
