Taken for the Macro Monday's theme of 'Brush'
I had to use one of my best make up brushes for this shot!!!
The brush was loaded with orange and blue glitter plus a good dollop of pink holi powder. A rocket air blower was used to eject the powder/glitter from the brush. Two YN560IV's both set to 1/128 @ 105mm were used to light the brush. One placed directly behind the brush and one at right angles to light the ejection.
i found some Holi powder in the Asian market today and just had to buy some :)
so no photoshop tonight yeah i didn't even have to boost the saturation :)
It's my 10th week out of the 52 weeks challenge here on Flickr!! I'm so glad I've stuck with it so far because for me, commitments aren't my strongest trait haha. I've learned so much in these past couple of weeks and I can't wait to keep shooting and trying out different concepts and mediums. This picture is an accurate portrayal of the party going on in my head right now :)
At the beginning of this year I took a workshop, where I learned to shoot with Holipowder. But everybody, who knows me well, is clear in the mind, that I don't like to wait & see. So I went to buy flour, lots of flour and started shooting. Don't worry! I know the risk of throwing flour, that's why we took the pictures in an open hall.

going through old files from Summer 2014, and I found this gem.

Went through my archive of photos tonight, and found this three years old gem. Should resume this kind of high speed photography :-)
Some of you will know about the annual Indian festival of Holi, where literally milions of Indians pour onto the streets and throw enormous quantities of coloured powder and water over one another - family, friends, and strangers alike - in a riotous celebration of life. There are thousands of amazing street, reportage, NatGeo-style photographs about Holi around but I, in spite of my Indian heritage, have never actually been around with a camera when it is going on. Holi happened earlier this week, and I was in Bangalore, India, the week before!
Anyways, I decied my boys, Rafi and Zach (left to right) would enjoy having full license to hurl coloured powder at each other. So this afternoon I let them rip. I hastily made a backdrop out of black construction paper in our garage, set up my speedlights (SB-900 left, SB-800 right) with some diffusers. I asked my wife to throw the remaining powder on the boys as I took this shot.

Spent Sunday morning photographing dogs with holi powder at Riverside Ranch. This was practice for an upcoming photoshoot. We will also be teaching people that attend the Frozen Hiker Photography Mustang Photo Retreat in October how to do this.
