This is great not only do I have three hoglets and the mother running around my garden they are living in a hog house I bought.
The adult spent most of the night packing the house with leaves and twigs it a wonder there's any room left inside for them.
Two hoglets wandered far and wide and one of the hoglets stayed with the adult.
Hoping to fatten them up ready for hibernation.
This is one of the photos of my first photos of Hedgehogs, so i'm pretty pleased :). The night before these were taken I saw my very first hedgehog :). I heard this noise and when i looked where it was out popped a hedgehog :). It looked to me like between hoglet size and adult size, it didn't see me i don't think :). So I went inside from the garden and looked later to see if i could see it and to my surprise there was very small hoglets, so i watched them and there was at least three that came out onto the grass :). I didn't get any photos then because i was so fixed on watching them :). I couldn't believe it :). I think it was their first night out because since then, i've seen less and less of them now, so i think the little ones have moved on to find their own place. And I saw an adult later. Who knew all i had to do was look down when looking for the bats :). Sorry for going on, i'm just really pleased :).

After taking the sickly teenager to hospital we saw 4 babies in total as well as mum. Not able to get a pic of them all as it was dusk.

That hoglet on the right seems to be the explorer of the bunch, already sizing up the big wide world of my backyard for the potential of future adventures.
In previous years I've had one solitary big groundhog under my shed. Last year there were two, a bigger and a smaller one, and this year I had only seen one so far. Well, it turned out they've been busy and there are now at least seven living under my shed - Momma Groundhog with six babies!
This is me earlier this year releasing Sonic one of my favourite hedgehogs.
Sonic was rescued in October 2011 at just 280grams.

This short movie is of Dusty eating a chicken carcass.
I asked my neighbours not to throw it away after they'd had lunch, as they love to sharpen their teeth on the bone and eat it for calcium.
If anybody tries this, you'll be amazed to find that they eat the LOT!!
I was worried about Dusty at first as he comes out while it's still daylight at about 5pm.
Usually a sign of ill health or dehydration.
Dusty turned out to be just fine.
It seems he's just an early riser to maybe get the best pick over food before his friends get up.
Dusty has had 3 hoglets this year so obviously had a lot of work to do and possibly the reason for getting up early.
I have rescued 2 of Dusty's hoglets as they were underweight.
One made it up to 600grams so I placed that one back outside in time for hibernation.
The other is still with us as it's only half it's weight.
came sniffing round the back garden again, same one as last September. It likes the pears, i think it can sniff the aroma in the air as it seems to get drawn in within 1/2 hour of putting one out on the back lawn. Would be nice to see some hoglets!

I sneaked around the shed to get a better picture and this little guy was just very curious. Momma was off in the field behind the house and not happy with me so close to her babies. As soon as I stepped back around the corner, she was back and whistling for all her hoglets to get inside their burrow. They didn't stay in for long though. Their urge to explore seems stronger than their desire to listen to mom. *LOL*
For many years, I've had a solitary groundhog living under my shed, expanding his little burrow into what must by now be a royal suite by groundhog standards. Apparently all that work payed off. Male & female, or mother & hoglet?

Finally our visiting hedgehog has found it's meal inside the den they created for themselves last year, or we accidentally created for them when we built the shed in 2021
Damn hog. I just cleaned you.
By the way, Annointing always makes me marvel at the hedgehog tounge. Not only is it long enough to lick their own back, it is also strong enough to withstand licking SPIKES. Eeek.

I've had a hedgehog nesting in my garden for about 6 weeks and I've been hoping there might soon be the patter of tiny feet.
This evening, mum hog went out to the feeding station for a bite to eat, and while she was away from the nest a little hoglet came out briefly to look at the world.
This might be the hoglet's first experience outside?
I'd grabbed the camera when I saw Mum come out, so fortunately was ready for the hoglet's very brief appearance before it went back inside.

This was something I didn't expect while photographing some wild boars recently. I had been photographing a sow and her hoglets for around an hour when suddenly the sow disappeared into some bracken.
This shot shows her emerging from the bracken right in front of me and to be honest I can't remember taking it.
It must have been one of those "get out of the way" shots, where you accidentally release the shutter while scrambling?
Anyway, I like it as I usually get either the ground or the sky with shots like this.
True story. We have a hedgehog and three or four hoglets, and we've started seeing them a lot more in the last week or so. I was so desperate to feed them last night, but out cats eat dry food, so I checked the hedgehog preservation society, who said try museli or raisins. Turns out one of the little ones is very fond of them!
For a couple of nights now I seen small black things moving around with grey faces but David could not see them, when I asked so yesterday day I put some food on the floor of the night time feeding station as well as in the bowl.
During the evening I thought I saw a slightly larger one but still smaller than the food bowl then I put it down too may be a spikey dry food biscuit as the mix in the bowl and on the floor
Are crushed peanuts, chopped up spikey hog food, meal worms dried and suet pellets?
So I thought that it might be one of them making me thing it was a baby hoglets
Because with the infer red that the camera use the animals cannot see it but when it so close to the camera it even makes it hard for me to recognises so here are a couple of snap shots and videoβs that I took last night and see what you think
