"He's all yours."
Inspired by another delightful painting by the Parisian painter Henri Adolphe Laissement.
Anti-clerical art is a genre of art portraying clergy, especially Roman Catholic clergy, in unflattering contexts. It was popular in France during the second half of the 19th century, at a time that the anti-clerical message suited the prevailing political mood. Typical paintings show cardinals in their bright red robes engaging in unseemly activities within their lavish private quarters.
With the 8,700-TEU (container) CMA CGM Melisande towering behind him, port crane operator and Jacksonville native Lamar Avery describes his three decades on Jacksonville’s docks as nothing short of a dream come true. "Over the years, I’ve seen JAXPORT really grow," he said during a recent interview with the port’s Marketing team. "It’s incredible to be able to work ships this big—and bigger—right here in my hometown."
Avery, a member of International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) Local 1408, spends many of his workdays – and sometimes nights – 130 feet up in the air inside the cab of one of JAXPORT’s 100-gauge container cranes. From his seat inside the crane’s cab, he carefully uses a piece of equipment called a spreader to lift containers on and off the ships. "It’s a thrill to be able to pick up 50,000 pounds with just one hand," he says.
Avery has been on the job he calls his passion for 30 years, and says it has allows him to provide a quality life for his family, including his two daughters. "I was on the docks before they were born – they are now 25 and 21. To be able to raise them and give them a great life with the help of JAXPORT and the ILA has been wonderful."
From the increasing size of the vessels calling JAXPORT to the new technology used to operate the container cranes—Lamar says the changes he has seen over the years are good for the port and the community – creating new, well-paying jobs for his colleagues and neighbors.
Avery expects port progress to continue now that the federal project to deepen the Jacksonville shipping channel to 47 feet is well underway. Once completed, the project will allow JAXPORT to accommodate the largest vessels calling the U.S. East Coast more fully loaded. "Harbor deepening is a fantastic opportunity for our port – we are becoming more competitive and I can’t wait to see even bigger ships come through," said Lamar.
When asked where he will be in five years, Lamar said, "Hopefully, I’ll be right here doing the same thing because I love everything about this job."

"I exist in the relations. Others create me and I am a reflection of others. I wanna be part of you - your body, your moment, your story, and your life. Once I met him. This encounter is still a memorable moment of something that moves me forward, let me dance and spin around. His body stucked to mine and we were breathing together. I have been embraced from inside, I became part of him. We were together, once and for ever."

little Gabriel is sensitive to sound, light and touch. He must be covered and his ears with muffs and noone is aloud to touch him or move him as his vital signs could go haywire and it could kill him. He must stay very still, calm, & quiet. The machines are working for him as he trys to gain strength and heal.. His operation will be the 27th November where they will put back his heart from under his right armpit to the left side and his left lung will be put back to the left side, and all his other vital organs that are where the left lung should be will be put back into the abdomen cavity. Then they will seal up his diaphram.
Another one that may require a bit of explanation... The balloon (see day 56) that his grandparents bought him is one of his favourite toys, he loves playing with it when he's in the bouncy chair or in his cot. But its slowly deflating, and today we got him a new one! So poor dad had to wander round the shopping centre with this tied to the buggy, at precisely face-height...

Had a gray theme when I put this one together. The darker gray lines are actually part of the skin I was using at the time, I added a vertical gray line, the "HIM", and Valo.

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat;
if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head,
and the Lord will reward you.
[Proverbs 1:21-22 NIV]
5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:
1. Like it or not, we are ALL sinners: As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous—not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” (Romans 3:10-12 NLT)
2. The punishment for sin is death: When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. (Romans 5:12 NLT)
3. Jesus is our only hope: But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)
4. SALVATION is by GRACE through FAITH in JESUS: God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:8-10 NLT)
5. Accept Jesus and receive eternal life: If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT) And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have God’s Son does not have life. (1 John 5:11-12 NLT)
Read the Bible for yourself. Allow the Lord to speak to you through his Word. YOUR ETERNITY IS AT STAKE!

They wheeled him round and round the field
Till they came into a barn,
And there they made a solemn mow

Feast of the Black Nazarene
Quiapo, Manila, Philippines
January 9, 2011
After several days coordinating with Jovi Ong about shooting the Black Nazarene feast, I was able to join him together with Charles Loo, Jovi's shooting buddy and our host for that day.
I sure had to drag myself out of bed that Sunday morning as the weather was still inviting to stay in bed and the drizzling rain wasn't helping either. Thank God the rain stopped and there was a bit of sunshine already. Soon, I found myself up and ready with my gears and was heading to Quiapo via MRT-LRT. It was at the LRT-EDSA station that I noticed the devotees of the Black Nazarene, mostly with their maroon shirts with a Black Nazarene design printed on it. They too were heading to Manila to take part in the religious festivity.
When I arrived at the LRT-Carriedo station, I immediately headed towards Palanca St. to meet up with Jovi and Charles. When I got down the station, I was greeted with hundreds of devotees walking, waiting and some processioning their own replica of the "Poon", as others call the Black Nazarene. The devotees walked barefoot as they imitate how Jesus went to Mount Calvary.
Despite the volume of people there, I was still able to move easily since the street wasn't that too congested yet and I managed to find my way easily to the barangay hall to which Jovi and Charles were waiting. Since we heard that the Black Nazarene is scheduled to pass in the area around 2pm, we decided to go around Quiapo, take some snaps and have an early lunch. We were already back before 1pm. It started to drizzle by 2:00pm and that time, street vendors were already moving out of the way and the road was getting filled up fast by hundreds or most likely thousands of devotees waiting for the arrival of the Black Nazarene.
Alas! An hour after, the carriage of the Black was already insight and the scenes that transpired in the next hour can't be captured by photos and videos alone. I felt the temperature rose as people flocked the carriage, some climbed and touched the figure while others tried to get hold of the ropes that pulled it. They didn't mind how crowded the area was nor the drizzling rain.
It was totally a different experience for me to have witnessed up close this unique festivity. Thanks to Charles for being such a great host and also to Jovi for inviting me 'til the day of the festivity.

Some call him a clown, others the town drunk; he's a lively spirit who may be armed with a broom, sake bottle or banana leaf, flitting through the dancers at an offbeat pace.
